It’d be great to say that this is a surprise, but the fact is that the ratings and excitement for American Gods started slipping when Orlando Jones was announced to be cut from the show since his character, Anansi/Mr. Nancy wasn’t needed for the third season. There’s no doubt that he could have been worked into the story somehow, but with Pablo Schreiber, aka Mad Sweeney, also being cut from the third season, apart from archive footage and his dead body being carted around by Laura Moon, the series has lost two of its biggest talents. Also, the war that

There are spoilers ahead for those that haven’t watched the season 3 finale of American Gods, so if you haven’t seen it yet then you might want to pay a visit to Starz and catch up. But one thing that’s certain is that there kind of has to be a season 4 now to close everything out since apparently one episode wasn’t enough to do this. With the death of Odin at the hands of Laura Moon and the double-dealing by Mr. World, one has to assume that there’s a bigger endgame on the way, especially since Shadow willingly consented

For all he knew and understood about his father, Shadow still fell prey to his manipulations.
The end of American Gods Season 3 Episode 10 revealed that Shadow had missed some clues about his father's actions and that a sacrifice he made willingly was a setup.
Although there's not an official renewal at Starz for American Gods Season 4, they've still got a bit of the story left to tell.
In the wake of Wednesday's death, everyone gathered in the middle of America, considered the most soulless place on earth.
Shadow wondered why Wednesday didn't just hold his peace talks here, where violence couldn't occur. But as we knew, Wednesday never had peace on his mind.
Wednesday was pulling a long-con to return to his former glory.
Laura Moon, who suffered a terrible fate at his hands, never thought much of Shadow's long-lost father, but she didn't realize was that she, too, was...

Yes, if you’ve seen the episode, that just happened. If you haven’t and don’t want to read the spoilers then the best advice is to stop reading since things just heated up once again. Seriously, did anyone expect anything different with Wednesday? Just to get it out of the way, Laura Moon appears to have satisfied her deal with Mr. World, who was adamant when speaking to Wednesday that the old gods had a choice, fade away quietly or be hunted down one by one. The fact that Czernobog was there makes it all the more likely to think that

Stories are ending, and stories are beginning.
Everything that has been on the table during American Gods Season 3 came to fruition, and by the end of the hour, Laura had done the impossible, using the spear to end Wednesday.
Also conveniently coming to a close, Shadow's time in Lakeside is over. What does it all mean?
The most surprising development came from Wednesday as he laid his plans for war to rest.
Wednesday's about-face on American Gods Season 3 Episode 9 wasn't viewed with any enthusiasm.
Czernbog thought his old frenemy had gone crazy. Peace talks were out of the question. They had been promised a war.
But Wednesday has something up his sleeve.
Before we investigate further, there is more to unpack from the episode, including the Lakeside wrap-up.

American Gods is beginning to hit a fever pitch with its upcoming episode, and we have an exclusive clip to whet your appetite.
Shadow has had a lot thrown at him since he got out of prison.
He discovered his dead wife was having an affair with his best friend, and when you look back at it, that was probably the best news he got as it has snowballed since then.
At the time, Shadow had no idea that his father, the god Odin, trapped on these shores for milennia, murdered Laura Moon, hoping to grow closer to Shadow as he began his preparation for war.
Since then, Shadow has suffered greatly without having any idea why and eventually learned that Wednesday, or Odin, is his father, making him a demi-god. He's still trying to process that on American Gods Season 3.

The formerly, or still, dead Laura is being taken through the low points of her life as she’s forced to remember back to a time when she supposedly manipulated her father into cheating on her mother, when in fact nothing is as she said it was and her father was simply a louse that cheated on his wife and

We haven’t heard from the American Gods universe in awhile. In fact, it’s been over a year and a half since season 2 concluded and the show went through another round of … say it with us: behind the scenes drama.
Well the fine folks at Starz have apparently decided that we’ve waited long enough. During the show’s appearance at New York Comic Con, producers unveiled the first real footage of season 3 as part of an exciting new teaser. You can watch the 90-second clip below.
There’s always a lot to unpack in just about every new bit of American Gods footage, but this time around there’s really a lot to unpack. Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is feeling himself and it shows. In addition to a new hairstyle, a new location, and new attitude, Shadow is ready to accept season 3’s tagline: “I Am A God.

It’s too bad that American Gods is a show and not a movie since otherwise Emily Browning might be given yet another perfect entry since as Laura Moon she’s been kind of enjoyable given that she’s a rather tricky character and hard to like but also hard to entirely dislike. That being the case though she’s always been an interesting actress since she was younger since she does have kind of an ethereal quality to her that seems to imply that she has the ability to act and act well, but also that she seems very desirable for many roles

There are quite a few characters who have been brought back from the dead, and our podcast hosts share their favorites and yours.
Dead isn't always dead in genre television, whether we're talking about science fiction, fantasy, horror, or supernatural programming. As mentioned in this week's Sci Fi Fidelity podcast, the use of resurrection can sometimes undermine any raised stakes a storyline might have established in putting characters' lives at risk, but when done correctly, a return to life can change a character's whole motivation moving forward.
Because there are so many examples to choose from, we started off with a few obvious classics. Buffy Summers technically died twice, but her Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 6 resurrection was transformative. Fox Mulder's rise from the dead in The X-Files season 8 was also remarkable given the character's diminished role in later season that became pivotal in the reboot.

Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Sunday’s American Gods.
It’s no longer a mad, mad, mad, Mad Sweeney world.
Sunday’s episode of American Gods marked the end of the deity’s tenure with Wednesday, and a bloody ending it was. The hour chronicled the lore surrounding Mad — was he a king who’d lost it all? a cursed, crazy man wandering the forest? a warrior who’d beheaded his own grandfather? — without landing on any certainties. American Gods Season 2 Episode 7
Only two characters have felt completely “on” in American Gods Season 2. Laura Moon is one. The other is her frequent scene partner, Mad Sweeney. I've praised their scenes together this season as some of the better ones thus far, and that praise continues when they're separated from one another, too.
The rest of the ensemble may seem a bit groundless, but Mad Sweeney continues to be the anchor of the second season, keeping American Gods from going adrift in stormy seas. Thankfully, he gets his own episode, highlighting his journey not to America, but how a quasi-mythological king in Ireland became a giant, fist-fighting leprechaun, tracking the various versions and transmutations of the Mad Sweeney myth before settling on the version that best fits American Gods.

Based on the Neil Gaiman books, the Starz drama of modern deities American Gods is currently in its second season and has been renewed for a third. At The Contenders Emmys, Deadline’s Dominic Patten talked to show stars Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, and Ian McShane, who also serves as Executive Producer, about the current season, how the fantasy translates to issues in real life and expanding the universe of Gods.
Currently in its second season, McShane, who plays Mr. Wednesday, said that the show is going back to the books more as they dive deeper into the New and Old Gods. “You have to get back to the source material to get to know the people,” he said. McShane also teased that the upcoming season will take place Lakeside — and for diehard fans, that’s a huge deal.

Need to catch up? Check out the previous American Gods recap here.
There’s an upside and a downside to giving the TV version of Laura Moon more presence, personality and spunk than she has in the Neil Gaiman novel on which American Gods is based. The plus side? She’s far more interesting, live (well, sort of) and in technicolor than she is on the page. The minus? Now that I’m invested in her, all I want is for Laura and Mad Sweeney to ditch the rest of these celestial crazies and hoard off to a tropical island somewhere.

American Gods season 3 will happen on Starz, with Chic Eglee as showrunner.
American Gods Season 3 is a go! Starz announced only one episode into American Gods Season 2, that the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's beloved novel, will be getting a third season. This is good news for anyone who is into mesmerizing visuals and fantastical commentary on today's sociopolitical status quo. Also, for anyone who wants to see this full story brought to the screen. While the second season itself was hit and miss, it's good to know we'll get more of the story on screen before it all wraps up.
Who will be showrunning American Gods Season 3? Usually, when a TV show gets a third season renewal, it's pretty obvious who will be helming the ship. But, given that American Gods allegedly fired its Season 1 showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green and then reportedly later asked Jesse Alexander,...

American Gods Season 2 Episode 2
In any good hero's journey, there's always a side-quest. You have to recover this artifact in order to defeat that demon, you have to recover this holy weapon, or that magical key, or that MacGuffin to continue on with whatever the larger journey is.
Given the solid cast of characters of American Gods, it's not surprising that characters will be given a side quest or two along the way, usually at Wednesday's behest. The gang is dispatched to a variety of places; Salim and the Jinn get sent to retrieve Odin's spear, Laura and Mad Sweeney get sent to track down Shadow, Wednesday and Nancy go for a drive, and Mama-ji gets a chance to swap shifts at the diner in order to participate in the war.

When the late, great critic Gene Siskel hated a movie, he’d say he wished the filmmakers had asked themselves, “Is my film more interesting than a documentary of the same actors having lunch together?” This question applies neatly to television as well. I’ve often sat through hilarious cast press conferences for sitcoms that had failed to make me so much as smile, and wondered how that energy couldn’t be properly harnessed when the cameras rolled.

Repeated references to the King of America occur in the first season. Are they a hint for American Gods Season 2?

It took American Gods eight episodes of sinister dreams, unfathomable encounters with faceless lynch mobs, ancient fortune tellers and every incarnation of Jesus you’d care to name, for Shadow Moon to finally accept that he was living in a world of gods.
To those gods, Shadow is a person of interest. The old deities and the new either want him on their side in the coming war, or want him out of the picture. Mr Wednesday took the precaution of destroying Shadow’s life (having him sent to prison and ordering his wife’s murder) just so he could hire him when the time was right. We're getting another deep dive into Mad Sweeney's history in American Gods Season 2.
This American Gods articles contains spoilers for Season 1.
"A Prayer For Mad Sweeney" was one of the standout episodes of American Gods Season 1, and what Neil Gaiman called at this month's TCA presentations, "one of my favorite deviations from the book." American Gods Season 2 will see a similar "deviation," with another Mad Sweeney-centric episode telling the history of the Old God to an even more expansive degree.
In Season 1, we got to see Mad Sweeney as he was a few hundred years ago. In Episode 7 of Season 2, we will learn about the last 6,000 years of Mad's history.
"That's a lot of years," noted Pablo Schreiber, who plays Sweeney in the show.
"It's a long episode," added Emily Browning, who plays American Gods' Laura Moon and had a substantial role in Season 1's Mad-centric ep.

"It's a long episode," added Emily Browning, who plays American Gods' Laura Moon and had a substantial role in Season 1's Mad-centric ep.

The second episode of American Gods Season 2 will tell us a bit more about where Shadow Moon comes from.
We get relatively little insight into Shadow's (Ricky Whittle) backstory in American Gods Season 1. Sure, we know about his recent history—about his time in jail and his relationship with Laura Moon—but less attention is given to his childhood, to where he came from. In American Gods Season 2, that will change.
Talking to Den of Geek at this month's TCA presentation, Ricky Whittle teased the appearance of a Young Shadow.
"We have Shadow's very own coming to America story," explained Whittle. "We kinda delve into his past and discover why he's so pure and why he's able to kinda constantly be the universal punchbag—physically, emotionally, spiritually—but still get up and keep moving forward with this light in his heart and this belief it will be okay,...

These folk from American Gods, Buffy, Game Of Thrones, and more didn’t let a little thing like dying stop them…
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Contains spoilers for Russian Doll, Game Of Thrones, The X-Files, American Gods, Pushing Daisies, Doctor Who.

Laura Moon and Mad Sweeney have joined the ranks of American Gods Season 2 characters to get their own nifty moving posters.
Moving posters were always kind of the bare minimum expectation we had for the distant future. Hell, if they could pull it off in Back to the Future and Harry Potter, they could pull it off in 2019. Of course, they haven't always been as cool as we hoped. But that's starting to change with this fascinating crop of moving character posters for American Gods Season 2.
American Gods Season 2 has previously released Americana marquee-theme moving posters for Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), and Salim (Omid Abtahi). Now we can exclusively reveal two more.
The first is for Shadow Moon's better half and everyone's favorite revenant: Laura Moon (played by Emily Browning).
Her marquee reads "Believe in Life" but one can't help but notice that...

Based on the Nail Gaiman novel, the show will have its Season 2 bow on Sunday, March 10 at 8 Pm Et/Pt on Starz.
American Gods stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday. The one-hour drama centers on a war brewing between Old Gods and New Gods, as the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily lose believers. In Season 2, the battle moves toward a crisis point, as the destinies of gods and men collide. While Mr. World plots revenge for the attack against him in the first season, Shadow throws in his lot...

Listen, there’s a lot of television out there, and none of it plays by the rules anymore. Series take breaks that can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. Shows pop up on different channels than they last aired on, or they shift from TV to streaming. Limited series become ongoing programs, movies are broken up into miniseries, and everyone watches their favorite shows on their own schedule anyway.
So it may not seem all that important to note what pre-existing shows are coming back in 2019, but it is, in fact, absolutely vital. Maybe you didn’t realize “American Gods” was making an early year comeback, and you need to reactivate your Starz membership. Perhaps you thought “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” was still airing on Fox, when it’s actually over on NBC now. Maybe you forgot about shows like “Fleabag” and “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” or didn...

Neil Gaiman and the cast open up about the many changes the American Gods Season 2 production has faced during Nycc.
While executive producer Neil Gaiman may have grandiose plans for three more seasons of American Gods at Starz, the television adaptation of his 2001 fantasy novel has endured a great deal of seemingly divine intervention since airing its first season last year.
Showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green exited the show after the pair had reportedly completed about half of the season two scripts. Cast members Gillian Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth subsequently left, and after stepping in as the new showrunner for a time, Jesse Alexander was asked to leave the series. Gaiman, who was already spearheading Amazon’s adaptation of his and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens, stepped in to salvage things.
Despite all of this, American Gods showed up at the 2018 New York Comic Con with...

The old gods are coming back! Almost two years after the first season wowed viewers, Starz's TV adaptation of American Gods is returning for its second season. At their New York Comic-Con panel on Friday afternoon, the cast and executive producer Neil Gaiman gave us a first look at what we can expect when the show returns in 2019.
The second season picks up right where we left off in the first, following the epic showdown at Easter's party. Shadow (Ricky Whittle) finally knows exactly who he's working for as he and Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) continue their cross-country road trip. The brief teaser gives us glimpses of the oncoming war between the old gods (including Yetide Badaki as Bilquis and Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy) and the new (Bruce Langley as Technical Boy and Crispin Glover as Mr. World). Laura Moon (Emily Browning) and Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) go...

American Gods Season 2 is arriving soon, with some fresh faces behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
American Gods Season 2 has wrapped production, and the second season has an official premiere date! We also have a full-length trailer for the second season and, while we know there was some serious unrest behind the scenes of the show, the finished product looks gorgeous.
What unrest, you may ask? Sadly, showrunners Fuller and Green didn't return for American Gods Season 2. Gillian Anderson has also bowed out as Media, with Kristen Chenoweth (Easter) also not returning without Fuller and Green (who were allegedly fired during pre-production).
Jesse Alexander took over showrunning duties with American Gods creator, Neil Gaiman, however, Alexander was later asked to step down. Still, American Gods hopes to move past the behind-the-scenes drama and present a Season 2 that will delight book and first season fans alike.

Be patient, American Gods Season 2 is arriving sometime soon, with some fresh faces behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
American Gods Season 2 has begun production! Sadly, showrunners Fuller and Green won't be back for American Gods Season 2. Gillian Anderson has also bowed out as Media, with Kristen Chenoweth (Easter) also considering not returning without Fuller and Green.
Instead, Jesse Alexander will share showrunning duties with American Gods creator, Neil Gaiman. Alexander may be familiar to Bryan Fuller fans, having worked on both Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery.
As if that wasn't enough, the ongoing showrunner scrambles has claimed a casualty in Fuller and Green's replacement, Jesse Alexander, leading to further delays.
This is good news both for fans of the book and fans of good TV. The first season of American Gods only made it through about a third of the book, which means...
