Zoe Lister-Jones was proud to attend Sunday’s Spirit Awards, and the reason is twofold. First, the multihyphenate talent turned up in Santa Monica to support a pair of nominations for Roku’s Slip, the original series she created, starred in and executive produced alongside a team that includes Dakota Johnson. Reason No. 2: She did so by walking into the event hand-in-hand with a new love in her life.
When the subject of her plus-one came up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 41-year-old Lister-Jones responded with a big reveal: “I’m here, I’m queer, I have some fear but I’m working through it.” Lister-Jones is in a new relationship with a fellow filmmaker, Sammi Cohen, who most recently directed Netflix’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, the teen comedy starring Adam Sandler and family including wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie and Sunny.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 48 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12; last year, only 41 TV movies were submitted.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017, that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Brave,” the series finale of “Love, Victor,” now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
Hulu’s “Love, Victor” came full circle in its series finale, ending where it began — atop Creekwood High’s Winter Carnival Ferris wheel.
In the closing moments of the third season, Victor (Michael Cimino) returned to the spot where, exactly one year earlier in the pilot, he took a ride with former girlfriend Mia (Rachel Hilson) to conceal his sexuality. Only this time, it was his ex-boyfriend Benji (George Sear) sitting beside Victor, professing their love for one another after they spent the season apart so Benji could address his alcoholism and Victor could get to know himself.
“Victor found out who he was this season, and realized that Benji was the right person for him,” Cimino told Variety.

Note: Spoilers for the entirety of “Love, Victor” Season 3 below.
For the past three years, “Love, Victor” has shepherded a wave of uplifting stories centered around young, queer people, including Hulu’s “Crush,” HBO Max’s “Genera+ion,” and Netflix’s “The Half of It” and “Heartstopper.” The serialized spin-off to the 2018 film “Love, Simon,” following Michael Cimino’s Victor Salazar, a closeted high schooler of Colombian and Puerto Rican descent, was heralded as having rectified some of the sins of its predecessor, offering a more nuanced and intricate representation of LGBTQ+ youth.
With its third season, which debuted on Hulu (and Disney+) in its entirety June 15, the series is coming to a close. The show’s unexpected end — announced back in February — came despite its maintenance of strong audience and critical reviews, with Them magazine describing it as “distressing proof that nothing pure lasts forever.”

“Allswell” is one of those rare movies that feels less like a cinematic presentation and more like a personal invitation into someone’s home. There’s no pageantry, no fuss; they didn’t even clean the place up for you. “Love, Victor” will return in its Pride month tradition for a third and final season this June, described as “one last chance to feel the love.” The first season of the “Love, Simon” (2018) spinoff debuted in the summer of 2020, providing a bright spot amidst a lot of historical turmoil. Season 2 followed in the summer of 2021 with 10 packed episodes that introduced some new characters, relationships and obstacles for the Creekwood crew.

Victor (Michael Cimino) just wants to start over — just as the end is near.
The third and final season of “Love, Victor” premieres June 15 on Hulu and, this time, also on Disney+ as the streamer expands its older-skewing offerings. Season 2 left off with Victor’s love triangle heating up between his first love Benji (George Sear) and new student Rahim (Anthony Kevyan), who recently came out to his Muslim family after receiving advice from Victor.
As graduation looms and Victor tries to determine who he wants to (re)start a relationship with, the high school senior hopes to just “go back to that perfect moment” of falling in love for the first time.
“A lot of the time, the scariest things are also the most important, like admitting who you love or who you are,” Victor says in the trailer.

After three seasons, we've reached the end of Love, Victor.
Hulu on Friday unveiled the trailer for Love, Victor Season 3, and it teases some resolution.
The second season wrapped on a thrilling cliffhanger as Victor was forced to choose between Benji and Rahim.
“Are you sure nothing’s going on with you and Rahim?” Benji asks in the trailer.
"There was something between us. I thought we were friends, and things got confused," Victor responds.
However, Benji appears to want to sort out his problems on his own, and we see him packing a car.
Is the end in sight for the prominent couple on the hit dramedy?
"Did I ever tell you about the first time that I saw you?" Victor asks Benji in the same scene, seemingly confirming that something did happen.
"Can we just go back to that perfect moment. You know, start over?"

The final season of “Love, Victor” is almost upon us, and now we have a glimpse at what’s in store.
The trailer for Season 3, which you can watch above, begins by finally giving some answers about who Victor (Michael Cimino) chose at the end of the previous season. If you remember, the previous season of Hulu’s young-adult drama ended with Victor standing outside the door of one of his two love interests.
The scene fades to black before we find out if he went to profess his love to Benji (George Sear) or Rahim (Anthony Keyvan), but now the new trailer reveals that it was, in fact, Benji.
“Are you sure nothing’s going on between you and Rahim?” Benji asks as the two sit outside after the school dance. Victor admits: “There was something between us. I thought we were friends, and things got confusing.”

"Love, Victor" is ending after its upcoming third season. Variety confirmed the cancellation ahead of the show's June 15 release date. The series, which is a follow-up to 2018's "Love, Simon," centers on Victor Salazar as he struggles with his identity and where he fits in at his new school.
While the first season explores Victor discovering his sexual identity, the second season sees Victor dealing with the aftermath of his coming out and where he stands with his family, friends, and potential boyfriend. Season two ends with Victor having to choose between reconciling with his boyfriend, Benji, or starting something new with his crush, Rahim. In June 2021, executive producer Elizabeth Berger told Entertainment Weekly, "[Victor] has both of those options rattling around inside, and then he has a moment of clarity and just follows that right up until that door." For writers Kirsten King and Casey Rackham, “Crush” crucially moves past the coming out stage of queer life and into the part where those who have come out can be themselves.
The co-writers, who both identify as queer, started working on the project after meeting at BuzzFeed in 2018 and starting a queer writers group.
“We just felt there was a real gap in the culture for queer rom-coms that aren’t about coming out,” King told TheWrap. “I feel like life after the coming out moment is when stuff gets really good for queer people. Absolutely coming out stories have a place in queer cinema and are necessary and are helpful and are a part of what it means to be a queer person, but this film is so centered on the joy for us.”

In Hulu’s new queer rom-com “Crush,” actress Isabella Ferreira got the chance to fulfill a dream of hers from when she was young: playing the popular girl in school.
“I’ve always wanted to play the popular girl just because I never saw a lot of Latinas playing that when I was younger,” Ferreira told TheWrap in a recent interview about the original film, which is now streaming on Hulu. “That was always one of my dreams, [and] I was able to finally do it thankfully.”
“Crush” also stars Rowan Blanchard as Paige Evans, who has had a crush on Ferreira’s character Gaby since they were much younger. Paige isn’t necessarily as popular as Gaby, but an opportunity for the two to get to know each other more arises when Paige joins the track team, which Gaby co-captains with her twin sister Aj.

High school is rough, but it’s even harder when you’re trying to figure out if you have real feelings for your childhood crush — or her sister. But it does make for good comedy in Hulu’s new rom-com “Crush,” and that’s exactly what drew star Rowan Blanchard to it.
The movie follows Paige (Blanchard) as she tries to figure out what the happiest moment in her life up to this point has been, so she can immortalize it for her college art school application. She thinks maybe it’s her crush on Gabriella Campos (Isabella Ferreira), and the moment she fell for her in grade school. Then again, Paige is also slowly starting to fall for Gabby’s sister, Aj (Auli’i Cravalho), a journey which is providing inspiration in itself.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Hulu’s new movie “Crush”
Trying to figure out if you have real feelings for your childhood crush or her sister, can be hard. But such is the situation in Hulu’s new rom-com “Crush.” And for Auli’Cravalho, who stars as half — or rather, one third — of that love story, having queer writers was a huge factor in telling that story authentically.
“Having queer writers, and a director, just allowed us to have this film that was so vibrant and funny,” Cravalho told TheWrap. “Like, to be able to also tease queerness you know? It’s funny, and it’s okay! Because we’re teasing ourselves, you know what I mean?”

Movie cliches don’t have to be problematic. For instance, the “cool” mom who tries a little too hard (forever emblematized by Amy Poehler in “Mean Girls”) — she can stay. In “Crush,” Sammi Cohen’s snappy teen comedy about first love, Megan Mullally offers a refreshing take on that exact trope, imagining her as a lustful Milf who’s a little too sex positive. And it’s not the only familiar gag refreshed into something new in this cute Gen-z rom-com.
The film stars Rowan Blanchard as an aspiring high school artist who’s been nursing the same crush since fifth grade. The twist — if it even can be called that anymore — is that she’s queer and her crush is another girl. But unlike the try-hard mom, “Crush” definitively lays to rest any of those pesky tropes we’re so used to seeing in queer fare: There’s no tired coming out drama,...

Curiously unadventurous for a sex-positive teen romantic comedy, Sammi Cohen’s “Crush” centers its premise on an age-old recipe: an emotionally bemused heroine desperately pursues her supposed soul mate, when her ultimate the one has been right under her nose all along.
Still, predictability isn’t the real deficit of this well-meaning and progressive Hulu original that aims to land somewhere in the vicinity of “Some Kind of Wonderful” and “American Pie.” After all, some of the most timeless and irresistible romances stem from tales we’ve all heard a million times before. What’s jarring in “Crush” is the absence of some requisite dose of youthful mischief, a sense of stakes and perhaps even a lightly scandalous touch, integral to the spirit of many of the genre staples Cohen and co-writers Kirsten King and Casey Rackham attempt to revive on their own terms.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, Isabella Ferreira takes our call.
Isabella Ferreira knew she wanted to play Gabriela in Hulu's new movie "Crush" as soon as she read the script. "I really just enjoyed how the film embraces LGBTQ+ characters without revolving the narrative around any of their coming-out stories, and it's a simple love story," she tells Popsugar. "Characters are out, surrounded by supportive parents and classmates, and I just think this positive depiction normalizes and encourages a safe environment for LGBTQ+ teens."
Ferreira also loved that the character was a "popular It girl" who was also Latina. She says, "I've always wanted to play that character," but she wasn't sure she'd ever get the chance.

“Love, Victor” is being added to Disney+.
The upcoming third season of the teen coming-of-age drama, will be available on Disney+ and Hulu beginning June 15, along with Seasons 1 and 2, a source with knowledge of the move confirmed to TheWrap.
“Love, Victor” was originally developed for Disney+ but was moved to Hulu after Disney worried that some of the themes explored in the show, such as alcohol use and teen sexuality, might not belong on the family friendly streamer. It was the second project to be moved to Hulu for similar reasons, following the Zoe Kravitz-led “High Fidelity” reimagining, which was canceled after one season.

"Don't be afraid to draw something a little more vulnerable." The upcoming third season will be the last for Love, Victor, Hulu has confirmed. All eight episodes of the YA teen comedy series’ final season will premiere June 15 on the streamer. The news was revealed by Hulu as part of its TCA presentation Tuesday.
Following the events of the film Love, Simon, Love, Victor tells the story of Victor Salazar (Michael Cimino) – a new student at Creekwood High who has just moved with his family from rural Texas to Atlanta. On top of all the usual high school pressures of making friends and fitting in, Victor is still figuring out his sexuality – a tricky subject in his religious family. Reaching out to Simon for advice, Victor slowly but surely learns to be his authentic self and to trust the message from the film – that everyone deserves a great love story.
