Back in May, the first season of the comedy series Platonic, which stars Neighbors and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising co-stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, aired on Apple TV+… and it clearly went over quite well, as Deadline reports that Apple TV+ has ordered more episodes of the show. Platonic season 2 is a go!
JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy gave the first season of the show an 8/10 review you can read at This Link. He described the show as “light and enjoyable” and said “hanging out with Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen for half-hour segments is full of laughs”. In fact, there were enough hilarious moments in each episode, he felt it made up for the narrative shortcomings in the series. I haven’t seen Platonic yet myself, but Alex’s review has definitely made me want to check it out.

Two years ago, “Ted Lasso” premiered its second season on July 23, just 10 days after Emmy nominations were announced. It was a strategic move, of course, to keep the Apple TV+ hit top of mind for voters as Phase 2 voting approached in August. Among the show’s 20 nominations for its breakout first season were four in Best Comedy Supporting Actor, and because of that, “Ted” was not predicted to win the award at the time. “Saturday Night Live” duo Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang occupied the top two spots in the odds until two days before the ceremony, when “Ted” star and writer Brett Goldstein surged to first place and then walked away with the trophy. [Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “The Bear” Season 2, Episode 7, “Forks.“]
Sometimes, it’s hard just to wake up. Some of the best moments in “The Bear” (particularly in Season 2) do such an effective job of detailing all the steps that even get you to the crucible. A key part of the prologue in Episode 7 “Forks” is watching the city wake up along with Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Some creative pursuits (especially ones as part of a team) are all-day endeavors.
That tracks with what “The Bear” is at its heart: a seasons-long food metaphor for the very show you’re watching. It’s no coincidence that the series and the restaurant share a name. Everyone involved is working together in a kitchen, but nearly every detail has its TV storytelling analogue. (The giant wall calendar that looms over Season 2 is both production checklist and a collection of story beats.) So when Richie gets sent to Ever...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Bear” Season 2, including the ending.]
Richie’s arc in “The Bear” Season 2 is at once the most practical and the most endearing. Prompted by last season’s near-manslaughter scare and buoyed by Olivia Colman’s Episode 7 assurance that it’s “never too late to start over,” Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s character, who was once an obstinate obstacle to change, transforms into a definitive new man. Richie’s reading leads him to realize he doesn’t have a particular set of skills, or otherwise irreplaceable function at work, and if he’s going to provide for his daughter, then he needs a reliable source of income, preferably one that will bring a little happiness, too — whether The Bear succeeds or not.
With a little nudge from Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and a lot of patience from the good folks at Ever, he recognizes that source. He steps up. He finds his purpose.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne have played a husband and wife in the Neighborhood movie franchise.
The pair reunites for the Apple TV+ comedy series Platonic, which finds them playing one-time best friends who fall back into each other's lives.
They share an all-consuming friendship that gets them into wild situations.
Byrne tells TV Fanatic exclusively that while Rogen and creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco were all draws for her to sign on the dotted line, she connected with the platonic relationship between her character Sylvia and Rogen's Will.
"I have a dear friend who is a guy, and we've always had a platonic friendship, and I've definitely been under the scrutiny of other people going, 'Hold on, wait, you're just friends?'"
Byrne says that Platonic is "pure comedy" and that viewers should expect "emotional resonance," but at its core, the show is very much about entertaining the audience while challenging expectations.

The cast of Apple TV+’s “Platonic” was all smiles and laughs as they celebrated the premiere of their rom-com, but the Wednesday night carpet was clouded by Hollywood’s ongoing writers strike.
Some of the show’s stars including longtime friends Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Carla Gallo revealed their thoughts on the face off between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers while walking the green carpet outside of Regal LA Live theater in downtown Los Angeles.
“I’m personally distressed by not having any sense of how successful these shows and movies we make for streaming services are,” said Rogen. “The secretiveness only makes me think that they’re making way more money off of all of us than they want to share with anybody. These executives are making insane salaries that you would only make if you are running an incredibly profitable business.
