Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… well, we’re not entirely sure what it is, but it looks like something Brainiac would use to attack the Earth.

It’s Superman!
On Monday, “Superman” writer-director James Gunn released the first look at star David Corenswet as Superman in an Instagram post.
The photo depicts the Man of Steel sitting in what appears to be a luxury highrise condo in his iconic blue, red, and yellow costume. He’s pulling on his boots, presumably to deal with the pink-and-blue comet-like burst that’s visible in the sky out the window. He may be a nearly immortal superhero from the planet Krypton, but he puts his boots on one at a time like everyone else.

What a way to kick off the week!
DC Studios, James Gunn, and Warner Bros. have officially revealed the costume for David Corenswet's Superman, the first film in the Dcu.
It looks as if Clark is preparing to lace up his boots and patrol the Metropolis skyline in the image. While sitting, it clear that this newest version of the Man of Steel will have the superhero's iconic red trunks.
The first official image of the Superman suit comes likely due to the fact that filming is set to leave the behind-the-scenes confines of the Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia and film on-location in Macon and later on in Cleveland, Ohio.
At first blush, it looks as if the suit is heavily inspired by the Superman suit from the 2011 DC Comics' New 52 reboot, with slight variations.

Superman filmmaker James Gunn and star David Corenswet have posted on social media the new Man of Steel suit.
It’s a rather rugged costume, not as pristine as previous feature iterations, indicating the edgy take that Gunn is taking here with his movie. The film will be Warner Bros.’ fourth time revamping the DC superhero in longform (not counting big screen serials) following filmmakers Richard Donner (1978), Bryan Singer (2006) and Zack Snyder (2013).
Corenswet follows in the footsteps of such actors playing the son of Jor-El in feature films as Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006) and Henry Cavill (2013-2022).
This is a unit shot, it’s not an overly produced CGI shot, and it’s indicative of what we’ll see in the film. Not everything is green screen, and that creates an environment that’s significantly better for the actors.
Corenswet won the role over three actors after two days...

Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane – no it’s David Corenswet in our first official look at the actor in full Superman regalia! DC just posted the pic to social media along with the tease, “get ready”, and its official July 11th, 2025 release date. As you can see from the above pic, Corenswet’s Man of Steel seems to be a bit battle-worn, with his costume looking like it went through a bit of a beating. Metropolis is visible behind him, as well as some chaos in the sky, prompting our hero to do something we’ve never really seen him do in a movie so far – suit up!
Indeed, the classic way for Superman to get ready is to spin around in a circle or dive into a phone booth. Here, Corenswet’s version of the character seems to be in a...

Since Gunn & Safran assumed control of the Dceu and rebranded it as the Dcu, a significant faction of fans who appreciated Snyder’s vision has been discontent. Gunn faces ongoing criticism and is frequently compelled to justify a movie that has yet to be completed or released.
The latest controversy revolves around allegations of potential excessive use of CGI in the forthcoming ‘Superman’ film.
The production schedule for upcoming Dcu projects is well-known by now, highlighting Gunn’s active involvement in all forthcoming shows and films. ‘Superman’ was the second project to begin production this year, closely followed by ‘Creature Commandos,’ which is nearing completion. Additionally, ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and ‘Waller’ are slated to be shot concurrently as TV series.
Fans expressed concern when Gunn revealed he would write and direct all episodes, fearing it might detract from his focus on the ‘Superman’ production. Some argued that since ‘Superman’ was initially supposed to finish filming early,...

Ever since Gunn & Safran took over Dceu and rebooted it into Dcu, a large portion of the fandom that liked Snyder’s vision was mad. Gunn is constantly under attack and forced to defend the movie that isn’t even remotely close to being finished or released.
The most recent controversy and accusation is targeted toward the potential overuse of CGI in the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie.
The production schedule of the upcoming Dcu projects is fairly known at this point, and it’s clear that Gunn is working hard to take an active part in the development of all shows and movies to come. ‘Superman’ was the second project to start production this year, with ‘Creature Commandos’ almost being done. Then we have ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and ‘Waller,’ TV shows that are supposed to be shot simultaneously.

It’s hard to find someone who isn’t a fan of the iconic Stan Lee. He’s not just the reason fans get to enjoy those epic superhero movies that tug at every emotion. But it turns out he’s also a huge inspiration behind the cultural phenomenon that is Game of Thrones.
Stan Lee and Joan Lee in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
Surprisingly, even George R.R. Martin, the mind behind Game of Thrones, is a huge Stan Lee admirer. Thus, Stan Lee’s storytelling abilities had a huge impact on Martin as he crafted his own universe. Here’s how!

Who would have guessed the author of A Song of Ice and Fire novels George R.R. Martin, to be a Marvel fan? Usually, writers of his stature often claim to be neck deep into von-Goethe, Hemingway, and the obvious Shakespearean dramas. But Martin broke stereotypes after claiming to be an avid comic book fan, particularly inclined towards Marvel, more than DC.

During an interview with The Independent, George R.R. Martin spoke highly of Marvel Comics and its impact on his writing. While explaining why his preference particularly shifted towards Marvel over DC, Martin praised Stan Lee’s Spider-Man to be more refreshing than DC’s Superman.

David Corenswet is our new Man of Steel, but before landing the leading role in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, he had auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, at least, that was the rumour.
Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Corenset did indeed audition for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but admitted that he doesn’t actually recall it. “I asked him about it and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it,” Gunn said. The fan also asked if Superman’s flying scenes in the new movie might be similar to Adam Warlock’s flying scenes from Guardians 3. “No, what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for [Adam Warlock],” Gunn responded.

Last year, Gunn and Safran introduced new plans for the “Dcu,” a cinematic universe intended to replace and reboot the Dceu. The initial phase, dubbed ‘Gods & Monsters,’ encompasses animated projects and live-action shows set in Themyscira long before Wonder Woman’s era.
Although the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’ debuted first, the true kickoff of the Dcu will be ‘Superman,’ a live-action film centering on a younger Superman, effectively supplanting Cavill’s established Man of Steel. While the movie is still far from release, we’ve gathered available information in this comprehensive guide. Let’s dive in!
The plot of the film remains a mystery, yet its inspiration is clear enough
At the Dcu reveal, Gunn mentioned that the upcoming movie draws inspiration from ‘All-Star Superman,’ despite the costume drawing from Alex Ross’ art and the logo resembling ‘Kingdom Come’ Superman at the table reading. The movie’s brief synopsis...

It seems that not a single Gunn’s announcement related to the upcoming ‘Superman’ reboot can go without controversy. A while back, when Milly Alcock was cast as Supergirl, the director was criticized for having an all-white main cast of the movie.
Now the most recent outrage is directed toward the cast being “D-List” in nature. Everything started with the announcement that Pruitt Taylor Vince will be cast as Jonathan Kent in the upcoming reboot with Neva Howell cast as Martha Kent, Superman’s adoptive human mother.
Even though both actors are established in their own right with medium-sized roles, none of them in the past has led blockbusters. It appears that every announcement about James Gunn’s upcoming ‘Superman’ reboot sparks controversy. Some time ago, when Milly Alcock was cast as Supergirl, the director faced criticism for assembling an all-white main cast (despite Supergirl not being a part of main cast…)

Georgia-born actress Neva Howell will portray Martha Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive Earth mother, in Warner Bros/DC Studios’ Superman, from filmmaker and studio co-boss James Gunn.
The news comes in the wake of Pruitt Taylor Vince landing the role of Pa Kent, who is Martha’s husband.

According to The Wrap, Pruitt Taylor-Vince has been cast as Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. I can’t say that’s who I expected to play Clark Kent’s adoptive human father in the movie, but I’ve always been a big fan of the actor, who has appeared in everything from The X-Files to Deadwood to The Walking Dead.

Perry White is recognized as the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, the newspaper where Clark Kent and Lois Lane are employed. He is commonly portrayed as a seasoned journalist committed to truth-seeking and journalistic integrity. Perry often acts as a mentor and paternal figure to Clark Kent, offering guidance and support in his professional and personal endeavors.
In a recent interview on ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’, Wendell talked about the role and confessed that he isn’t very familiar with the character or the Superman lore, and he had a valid explanation for it.

Like so many of the comic-book supervillains that populate it, writer-director Vera Drew’s The People’s Joker arrives with an origin story. An “autobiographical transgender coming-of-age story,” the film stars Drew herself as Joker the Harlequin, an aspiring trans comedian who moves to a dystopic Gotham City and finds herself navigating both her own transition and the world of illicit underground comedy. The characters and settings are largely parodies drawn from DC Comics, but Warner Bros. wasn’t in on the joke, and after the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival back in 2022, the studio sent Drew a letter threatening legal action, and all future screenings were canceled.
After a long period of further delays and secret screenings of the film as Drew sought to make sure that she was fully protected from legal action under fair use has allowed for a fully legal release—complete...

A live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Teen Titans is officially in the works for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ana Nogueira is already on board to write the script. Nogueira, recognizable for acting roles in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Starz’s Hightown, is also working on DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to star Milly Alcock.
The announcement makes Teen Titans the first film added to the initial run of DC Universe productions Gunn revealed back in January 2023. It remains to be seen how or when it will slot into what’s being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, but Gunn, Nogueria, and the DC team have plenty of options.
Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

It’ll be another year before the Dark Knight returns. The Batman Part II, the sequel to Matt Reeves’ first bat-film starring Robert Pattinson, has been given a new release date of October 2nd, 2026.
The delay pushes the anticipated followup back from its original October 3rd, 2025 target by a full year. DC Studios insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that the delay is a result of last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, both of which ended in the fall.
The shift is one of many on Warner Bros.’s calendar. The Bride!, which sees Maggie Gyllenhaal directing former Batman Christian Bale, will take The Batman Part II’s original October 3rd, 2025 date. Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled project set to star Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Ragina Hall is set for August 8th, 2025, while Barry Levinson’s gangster movie Alto Nights has moved from November 24th this year to March 21st next.

When James Gunn announced that production had begun on Superman, he included a close-up of the new costume covered in snow, and now we know why. While speaking with Svalbardposten, Gunn revealed that the first scene he filmed for Superman was shot in Svalbard and featured Superman fleeing to the Fortress of Solitude.
“We have filmed the first scenes, which show Superman fleeing to the ice fortress,” Gunn said. “We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places. First, there is the natural beauty. But there’s also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else. As the new year begins, there’s anticipation for the launch of a new cinematic universe centered around DC characters, known as Dcu. While the previous Dceu concluded with the relatively successful ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ most of its movies didn’t perform well. This led to Gunn and Safran being brought in to reboot Dcu, with ‘Superman’ being a highly anticipated project, despite ‘Creature Commandos’ releasing first.
After much speculation, Gunn happily announced that ‘Superman’ began filming on February 29th, coinciding with Superman’s birthday. Although filming started at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, there’s a buzz about another undisclosed location leaked by Daniel Richtman. Richtman suggests that Corenswet filmed scenes in Norway, possibly for the Fortress of Solitude.

Typically, saying you're more excited about something other than the new Lady Gaga project is fair grounds for having your queer card taken away, but an exception can be made in the case of "The People's Joker." Indeed, as intrigued as I am to watch Gaga's Harley Quinn sing and dance her way through a toxic romance with Joaquin Phoenix's Clown Prince of Crime in Todd Phillips' "Joker: Folie à Deux" (a sentence I couldn't have imagined writing after watching Phillips' original Scorsesean DC drama for the first time back in 2019), it's Vera Drew's trans-coming-of-age DC Comics superhero parody that has my current attention.
Drew, similar to her fellow trans comedienne Harper Steele (the subject of Will Ferrell's acclaimed upcoming Netflix documentary "Will & Harper"), has quietly worked on some of the more memorable and daring comedic offerings of the past decade. In addition to editing Scott Aukerman...

The Dceu has faced its fair share of ups and downs lately. But one consistent point of praise has been the casting choices, particularly actors like Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

Anyways, James Gunn is now all set to change the whole universe. While his reboot sounds like a fresh idea, there is also a bittersweet feeling because they’re shaking up the cast.
Gunn and Peter Safran seem to have something new in the works, and it makes sense why they’re opting for younger actors like David Corenswet (as they provide longevity and potential for more movies in the future).
After his casting as Clark Kent/Superman in June 2023, new cast names were soon revealed, including Nicholas Hoult as the classic villain Lex Luthor. Most recently, the actor for Perry White has also been announced.

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu officially ended, and now Dcu is taking over. Even though Gunn’s reboot is supposed to be a soft reboot, it looks like the stories of DC characters under his leadership are going in a new direction. ‘Superman’ is the movie that is supposed to kick off the live-action portion of the Dcu. Recently, we’ve learned that the movie has started principal photography and Gunn also shared on his social media a brief glimpse of the Superman Suti, revealing that it was influenced by Alex Ross.

Great Caesar’s Ghost, Perry White has been found.
Wendell Pierce, perhaps best known for his work as a detective on HBO’s seminal crime series The Wire, has been cast as the iconic editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet in James Gunn’s Superman.
The new feature based on the DC Comics character began rolling in Atlanta on Thursday. It was previously titled Superman: Legacy.
David Corenswet is starring as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as classic villain Lex Luthor.
The character of Perry White is a Man of Steel fixture, first introduced in a Superman radio serial in 1940. He is the boss of both Kent and Lane, and depending on the incarnation, can be a tough-as-nails boss, the harried-by-his-reporters boss, or a father-figure boss. Burbank, CA – One of the Man of Steel’s most personal tales in DC history – from the mind of comics icon Grant Morrison, and produced under the expert oversight of animation legends Bruce Timm and Dwayne McDuffie – All-Star Superman will be available to own on 4K Ultra HD for the very first time on April 18, 2023 from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment.
Grant Morrison’s beloved, Eisner Award-winning vision of Superman’s heroic final days on Earth is brought to exquisite, animated life in All-Star Superman. The film begins as the Man of Steel rescues an ill-fated mission to the Sun (sabotaged by Lex Luthor) but, in the process, is oversaturated by radiation – which accelerates his cell degeneration. Superhero movies based on comics are currently the most successful and lucrative genre on the planet, and they have been for many years. But that's not enough for some people. For some reason, some of us have got it into our heads that films based on comics about Spider-Man and Batman also require Academy Award recognition — as though they haven't already won the ultimate popularity contest already, and they need to win this other, smaller popularity contest held exclusively by bourgeois Hollywood in order to be legitimized.
There was a bit of outrage when Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" was snubbed along with the immensely popular and populist Pixar sci-fi comedy "Wall-e," and the two movies' exclusion from the Best Picture race directly preceded the expansion of the category from five films to ten. Change was inevitable when James Gunn and Peter Safran took up their posts as co-chairman and co-ceo of DC Studios — and generally speaking, change was desired. It's no secret that DC's comic rival, Marvel, took a commanding lead in the cinematic game with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the DC Extended Universe stumbled and fell amidst rumored internal strife. Perhaps, then, new leadership and a (hopefully) unified vision would right the DC ship.
Unfortunately, the by-product of this shift is existing storylines and actors catching strays. Probably the most deeply felt of these was Henry Cavill's official departure as Superman not even two months after he took to Instagram to officially confirm his return to the Dceu following his cameo in "Black Adam." Cavill had been working fairly steadily in the UK for just over a decade before he stepped into the blue spandex and donned the red cape.

Any time I see Mark Waid’s name on a Superman book, I’m buying that. With Mark Waid, you know you are going to get a fun, well thought out story that more often than not will involve a chunk of DC history and a few interesting guest stars along the way. When the book is called World’s Finest, with the long history and pedigree that name has, that’s pretty much what you are going for. With Mark Waid writing Superman and Batman, you know you are going to get the ‘classic’ take on them. No super angst or psychotic issues with Waid, just Dark Knight Detective and Man of Steel. My kind of stories. The other thing I like about Mark Waid is that he’s not afraid to go big. Big storylines, big consequences,...

In this new “ripped from the headlines” thriller, an intrepid reporter goes deep, deep undercover to get to the heart of a controversial story. Oh, and there are no car chases or meetings in dark alleyways. But there is the “dark web”. That’s because, in the most modern take on the “get the truth out there” suspense saga, the heroine never really leaves her modest London “flat”. She’s online, and we’re watching her on her very own computer desktop as she bounces from social media sites to search engines to video “tele-chats”. Still, the danger is very real, along with the truly disturbing subject. And the whole thing truly hinges on the believability of the reporter’s fictitious Profile.

You know the drill by now. Whenever there is a holiday or celebration of some sort, DC whip up a fresh helping of their 80 Page Giants. They usually consist of ten or so stories, by a mix of top name creators and some unknowns obviously given a short story assignment to bed them in gradually in readiness for greater things down the line. Story quality is usually as mixed as you would expect, some great stuff, some average, and some filler. Overall, though, you get good value for your money. So, February being Valentines, this time round we are in the mood for love….
First story up is the obvious I suppose, being that Batman and Catwoman have one of the longest on and off romances in comics, and basically DC put Batman in everything at the moment. ‘Perfect Matches...

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews or know me personally you may have picked up on the fact that I am a bit of a Superman fan. Ever since I started reading comics back in the late 1970′s, Superman has been my favourite character in any medium. What I love about the character, apart from what he obviously stands for, is just how adaptable he is. Adaptable to different eras, different circumstances, different writers and different artists. That’s because the idea of Superman is a powerful one. What would we do? Save the world? Destroy it? Remake it in our image? Juggle the Earth and the Moon? It’s nice to dream.
Of late there has been a lot of talk about trying to keep Superman ‘relevant’. Brian Michael Bendis, as...
