Nathan and Daniel wake at the scene of a car crash, confused and seemingly unscathed. The two men begin to slowly understand that they did not make it. They are dead. Nathan’s previous acts will now determine his fate, however reprehensible they might have been. He will have to leave this earthly world and enter the depths of Hell that await him for all eternity and be confronted with other tormented souls whose pain he will be forced to experience…
Essentially an anthology, Pandemonium feels heavily inspired by the likes of Dante’s Inferno and it’s seven circles of hell, with Nathan only beginning his descent into hell – viewing the scions and stories of those who have come before him in two very different stories, with Nathan’s own story – a car crash, causing the...

If you read enough horror reviews or listen to enough horror podcasts, you’re bound to come across someone bemoaning the shoddy digital effects present in so many modern genre movies. As cranky as it sounds, it also makes sense—practicals are rare, violence is often digitized rather than staged, and CGI blood has unfortunately become the rule as opposed to the exception.

There are plenty of films that could call themselves Incredible But True but maybe more than most this one feels like it justifies it. But unfortunately, I don’t want to say too much about why this is the case because it would almost definitely spoil the film somewhat if you haven’t seen it. So here’s what I can say.
A couple, searching to buy a house and find one that they both really like. Of course, there is something different about this house and the estate agent is seemingly being very coy about telling them what this is exactly. He shows them a ‘door’ – that looks very much like a manhole – in the floor of the basement. He invites them down it with the promise that what is down there is extraordinary and will change their lives.

Sadistic Intentions writer-director Eric Pennycoff returns with actor Jeremy Gardner for The Leech, which could easily have been titled Good Intentions – for that’s what our lead character Father David has but – of course – there are those in the world who would prey on people’s goodwill and that’s certainly the case here.

One of the few A-list stars to emerge the last few years, it’s surprising it has taken this long for a film starring Margot Robbie to finally arrive, but her Dust Bowl drama Dreamland will now be landing next month. In his review for Eye on Film, Anton Bitel said the film “comes with a bittersweet vision of America barrelling down a two-lane road to nowhere, where dreams of sun and surf and sex are offset by the harsher realities of dust and mud and blood, and where, as the landscape is inscribed with corruption, ambiguity and guilt, the best kind of life for which one can hope is simply to be remembered,...

Horror comes in many types, from popcorn hell-raisers to deep and thoughtful mental anguish that will stay in our minds long after we’ve watched them. The best kinds, are the ones that tap into what you feel is safe away from the movie world, and bring horror home… and this is one thing that The Strangers did so well.
After returning home to an isolated vacation house after a night out, a couple hear a knock on the door. Seemingly a mistake, they send the people on their way, but it’s not long before a violent house invasion ensues by three masked individuals.

Welcome to the Circle is the first feature as director for David Fowler. Also known as The Circle, this feature was acquired by Devilworks in March, for potential distribution. Now, Artsploitations Films will show this feature, in the U.S., in October. In the film's story, a camping adventure turns to tragedy for a father and his daughter. Now, both characters are trapped in a murderous cult. This title stars: Heather Doerksen (Pacific Rim), Matthew MacCaull (Star Trek Beyond) and Taylor Dianne Robinson. And, the film's release details are hosted here. Welcome to the Circle has appeared at a couple of film festivals, including Fantasporto (Portugal). Here, the film was reviewed at ScifiNow, who notices the film's confusing affect: "an ever more disorienting trip through locations." Anton Bitel also mentions that the film will disorient the viewer: "Fowler’s literal cult movie will leave you bewildered and shell-shocked." Your initiation...

Tagline: "High School is Hell." A trailer for The Dead Ones came out in late 2019. Now, the film has been acquired by genre focused Artsploitation Films. An innovative title, The Dead Ones was developed by director Jeremy Kasten (The Attic Expeditions) and writer Zach Chassler. In the film, four outcast teens are on clean-up duty and serving Summer detention. When four masked killers turn up, they must confront a real horror. Those fighting the horror include actors: Sarah Rose Harper ("The Last Time"), Brandon Thane Wilson (The Blacklist), Katie Foster and several others. A few more details, on The Dead Ones, are hosted here. A couple of early reviews have come out, since the film's Belgium World Premiere. Anton Bitel at Rue Morgue has mentioned the Columbine influences in the film: "[The Dead Ones] play[s] out in a manner that is distressingly contemporary, in an age when, for good or ill, children lead much of their lives online,...

In February, Arrow Video send a wonderful Valentine to genre film fans, with a bells and whistles release of a classic J-horror trilogy.
The One Missed Call Trilogy- An iconic trilogy of J-horror films comes to Blu-ray for the first time! Tapping into the same brand of terror as the Ring and Grudge movies, visionary director Takashi Miike presents a modern, high-tech twist on that mainstay of Japanese folklore, the yurei or vengeful spirit, in the form of its own iconic antihero – the terrifying Mimiko.
In the first instalment in the trilogy, 2003’s One Missed Call, student Yoko receives a phone message from her future self, ending with her own death scream. Two days later, she dies in a horrific rail collision. As the mysterious phone curse spreads, claiming more young lives, Yoko’s friend Yumi joins forces with detective Hiroshi, whose sister met the same gruesome fate.

Among the many reasons that I enjoy Shudder, the streaming service, is that they have expanded well beyond horror titles and feature a great variety of genre films. And here's an excellent example. From all appearances, A Bluebird in My Heart is a bruising drama, described by our friend and critic Anton Bitel as "an elegant slow-burn noir whose ex-con protagonist remains a prisoner to his own brooding masculinity." Here's the official synopsis from Shudder: "Danny, an ex-inmate in Belgium, is housebound in a small hotel with an electronic ankle bracelet as a condition for his parole. The hotel's owner is more than willing to host former prisoners until they get back on their feet - she's married to a convicted felon who is doing...

Akio Jissoji: The Buddhist Trilogy will be available on Blu-ray August 20th from Arrow Academy
Akio Jissôji created a rich and diverse body of work during his five decades in Japan s film and television industries. For some, he is best-known for his science-fiction: the 1960s TV series Ultraman and 1998 s box-office success Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis. For others, it is his 1990s adaptations of horror and mystery novelist Edogawa Rampo, such as Watcher in the Attic and Murder on D Street. And then there are his New Wave films for the Art Theatre Guild, three of which This Transient Life, Mandara and Poem, forming The Buddhist Trilogy are collected here.
Winner of the Golden Leopard award at the 1970 Locarno Film Festival, This Transient Life is among the Art Theatre Guild s most successful and most controversial productions. The film concerns a brother and sister from a rich family who...

On its theatrical release the posters for Gaspar Noé’s Climax proudly trumpet that “it’s Fame directed by the Marquis de Sade with a Steadicam”, a gift of a quote from the Variety review. Joyfully, that line turns out to be surprisingly accurate, and Climax proves that French cinema’s enfant terrible has lost none of his power to shock or enthrall.
In typically perverse Noé fashion, Climax opens with a post-credits sting, an overhead shot in which a bloodied woman staggers through the snow before collapsing, her twitching movements making snow angels. It then cuts to the end credits (including multiple music...

Takashi Miike’s Audition will be available on Blu-ray From Arrow Video February 12th
One of the most shocking J-horror films ever made, Audition exploded onto the festival circuit at the turn of the century to a chorus of awards and praise. The film would catapult Miike to the international scene and pave the way for such other genre delights as Ichii the Killer and The Happiness of the Katakuris.
Recent widower Shigeharu Aoyama is advised by his son to find a new wife, so he seeks the advice of a colleague having been out of the dating scene for many years. They take advantage of their position in a film company by staging an audition to find the perfect woman. Interviewing a series of women, Shigeharu becomes enchanted by Asami, a quiet, 24-year-old woman, who is immediately responsive to his charms. But soon things take a very dark and...

Many weird-world genre bending millennial epics have already dated badly, but not Richard Kelly’s sci-fi / horror / satirical mind-trip about a guy given a glimpse of time travel in another dimension.
