One of the iconic moments in MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home was the union of three actors who have portrayed the webbed superhero over the years. Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire who shared screen space as their respective versions of Spider-Man, made hardcore Marvel buffs absolutely ecstatic.

Shazam 2 star Rachel Zegler shared an interesting chat with Garfield and revealed that she was a huge fan of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Wonder Woman in recent years has become one of the most fan-favorite superheroes ever since Zack Snyder brought her to life on the big screen via his Snyderverse. Featuring Gal Gadot as the titular DC character, not only were her solo and team adventures well received but fans also loved the casting choice.
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman
Yet, it seems with the end of Snyder’s run in the DC realm, Gadot’s run as Diana Prince has also ended and fans now want other actresses to take up the mantle of the demigod. And Rachel Zegler is one actress fans want to be cast as Wonder Woman in the revamped Dcu. But an industry insider denounced the fan campaign and fans had some mixed reactions.

Power can look like a lot of things, and nothing quite exemplifies that like the world of comic books. In this case, the soon-to-be-defunct DC Extended Universe (Dceu).
The interconnected DC universe hasn’t been around as long as its Marvel counterpart, but the Warner Bros. franchise has served up a kaleidoscopic roster of heroes, supervillains and antiheroes that can do serious damage to their opponents. But they’ve got different ways of doing it.
With his combination of superhuman strength, speed, flight and laser-eyes, Superman can plow through you, pummel you to dust or incinerate you with his vision. He could grab you by the arm and fly 100,000 feet into the air before dropping you back to the ground where your body would most definitely be destroyed. The Flash can run so fast that he can literally alter history and bring the world to the brink of destruction. Or,...

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" has the unenviable task of opening during an unprecedented creative limbo. Is it the last shakes of the Dceu death rattle, or will these characters stick around for the soft-rebooted Dcu? Whatever cinematic universe it officially belongs to, it's an action-packed, fun adventure flick. The first one delighted fans and critics with its mix of "Big" meets "Superman." There's still plenty of that residual charm here, even when the big CGI battles take over.
Two years after the first movie's events, the Shazamily's day-to-day crime-fighting antics are about to escalate when three ticked-off deities, aka the Daughters of Atlas, appear — Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu), and Anthea (Rachel Zegler). Miffed that the Wizard (Djimon Hounsou) bestowed the power of the gods to children, they vow to reclaim that power and rebuild the Gods' Realm, even if...

Adam Brody has talked at length about the one that got away, and with a Flash-led movie on the verge of release, one can only wonder how things would’ve ended up had Brody’s Barry Allen made it to the big screen in George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal. The epic superhero tale fell apart in early 2007 due to the impending writers’ strike and the loss of an Australian tax credit, and it continues to be one of Hollywood’s ultimate “what if?” stories.
So, when David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! made its way to the big screen in 2019, one of the most rewarding aspects of the film was Brody’s surprise cameo as the super-powered alter ego of Jack Dylan Grazer’s Freddy Freeman. It was not only perfect casting by virtue of the two actors’ similar wit, but it also allowed for a Justice League: Mortal reunion between Brody and D.J. Cotrona,...

Rachel Zegler has hit out at "senselessly mean" criticism about her new movie 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods'. The 21-year-old actress, who portrays Anthea in DC Extended Universe (Dceu) sequel, insisted the film is "actually very good", and she believes some of the disapproval is because it has become "cool to hate on fun nowadays". She wrote on Twitter: "hey our film is actually really good! but mostly i just absolutely loved making it and the people i met whilst doing so :) go see it! give it a chance. we have an 85 per cent audience score for a reason.some people out there and just being... senselessly mean. and it’s unnecessary. and i know, i know, “if you can’t handle the heat…” and all that nonsense, and you’re right. but our film is actually very good. it’s just cool to hate on fun nowadays.

David F. Sandberg is responding to the criticism that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has faced following its Friday release.
The director took to Twitter Monday to note that the latest DC installment was his “lowest critic score” on Rotten Tomatoes, which stood at 53 percent the day he posted. But it was also his “highest audience score,” at 87 percent. The film is a sequel to 2019’s Shazam!, which introduced Zachary Levi as the title character and which boasted a 90 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“I wasn’t expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it’s a good film. Oh well,” he wrote.
Sandberg’s comments come after the film’s box office opening marked one of the worst starts for a major Hollywood superhero film. Shazam! Fury of the Gods opened to $30.5 million domestically from 4,071 theaters, which...

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is now out, and it mostly recaptures the magic of its predecessor. Zachary Levi seems even more comfortable as the titular teenager in a titan's tights. We're treated to plenty of the Shazamily's dynamics as they juggle their lives as orphans and superheroes, and that makes for plenty of humor and heart. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler are worthy additions to the "Shazam" universe as Atlas' daughters Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea. There's no shortage of flying, punching, and lightning in this action-packed sequel that's sure to please comic book fans.
However, as entertaining as the movie is, the plot's a bit messy and left me with a few questions — some of which relate to the lapses in logic that are typical in superhero movies and others that have more to do with confusing character motivations and story elements that aren't given enough attention.

This post contains spoilers for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods."
There's no denying that Dame Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu make for better supervillains than a talking worm, but the fact remains: the first "Shazam" movie promised us Mister Mind. Or did it? If you sat through to the end of the sequel "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" this weekend, you may have been overcome by a sense of deja vu as the post-credits scene checked back in with Mark Strong's Dr. Sivana in his jail cell, where Mister Mind showed back up on the window ledge, talking up all his big plans, just as he did at the end of "Shazam."
Taken as tongue-in-cheek in a self-aware, "Deadpool"-lite sort of way, the "Fury of the Gods" post-credits scene lands like a tacit acknowledgment that the whole Mister Mind thing isn't going anywhere and that he probably wouldn't have been the best villain,...

[This story contains spoilers for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.]
If that final end-credits scene of Shazam! Fury of the Gods looked familiar, it was supposed to.
After a long battle against the daughters of Atlas — Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu) and Anthea (Rachel Zegler)— the DC sequel ends with Billy Batson (Asher Angel/Zachary Levi) and the Shazam! family safely back together, rebuilding their home after it was destroyed in the final fight. They all have their powers restored, and Billy finally learns his true superhero name — it’s Shazam, obviously. And once credits roll on what is potentially Levi’s last outing as the superhero, there are two end-credits sequences.
The final end-credits scene calls back to the post-credit promises of the first film, which featured Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong) conspiring for revenge in his jail cell with an unlikely visitor — Mister Mind, a supervillain worm with a robotic voice who’s a major Shazam!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a big movie. It’s essentially a team movie, with not only Billy Batson, but his entire foster family bringing a total of six superheroes to the table (not to mention the presence of Djimon Hounsou’s Wizard). And they’re facing off with three villains, in the form of Helen Mirren as Hespera, Lucy Liu as Kalypso, and Rachel Zegler as Anthea. And then there are a menagerie of magical monsters that populate the film’s final act. And if all of that ain’t enough, there’s a massive DC cameo (which has been inexplicably spoiled in commercials for the film), plus some other fun deep cuts from throughout Shazam history.
So with all of this in mind, we sat down with director David F. Sandberg on the latest episode of...

Despite the fun and comradery present in 2019’s Shazam!, that film’s sequel – Shazam! Fury of the Gods – unfortunately takes the property down the too often travelled road of over-dramatized and overblown entries that populate the DC Extended Cinematic Universe (Dcecu).
This new entry continues the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel) – a teenager who can transform himself into a superhero almost as powerful as Superman by speaking the word “Shazam!” – and his extended foster-family of fellow superheroes as they do battle with the now resurrected Greek gods Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu), and Anthea (Rachel Zegler) who are determined to reclaim the powers of the gods for themselves.
Returning director David F. Sandberg and screenwriter Henry Gayden are joined by Chris Morgan who serves as an additional screenwriter apparently added to ensure that the film gets the Dcecu treatment and becomes an unwieldy and overwrought narrative that loses...

Despite Zachary Levi, Rachel Zegler, and Lucy Liu cementing themselves in the DC universe via the new "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" movie, the three disagree on who makes the best Batman. A whopping seven actors have slipped into the Dark Knight's cape on the silver screen, but the fellow DC actors's all named different favourites - with Levi even admitting he hasn't seen the most recent iteration. "I haven't seen 'The Batman.' I know, I know," he divulged to Popsugar as he saw a look of disapproval.
Levi, who plays Shazam/Billy in the new "Shazam!" sequel, did say he regards Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, who star in "The Batman," as "so talented," so we'll let him off the hook. Zegler, who plays Anthea, also admitted she'd never seen "Batman vs. Superman." "I do love Ben Affleck as Batman, too, so I'm kind of a fake fan,...

The boy who would be a superhero is back with his foster family to take on their biggest threat yet in the sequel to the 2019 superhero film Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
It’s been a few years since teenager Billy Baston (Asher Angel) was given magical powers by the wizard (Djimon Hounsou) and became an adult superhero (Zachary Levi) whenever he says the word “Shazam.” Since sharing the powers with his foster family, Billy and his siblings have become a team, always working together to save the day.
A perfect example of this is when they work together to save people trapped on a collapsing bridge. Unfortunately, they fail to stop the bridge from collapsing. It’s these types of mistakes and miscalculations that have caused...

DC and New Line Cinema’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods has started off its domestic box office run with $3.4 million in Thursday evening previews.
Prerelease tracking suggests the superhero sequel will open to $35 million this weekend, one of the lower starts for a Hollywood superhero pic. Others believe it has a shot at $40 million, although that would still be behind the $53.5 million domestic opening of the first Shazam! in 2019, including $5.9 million in previews. not adjusted for inflation.
Shazam 2‘s Rotten Tomatoes critics score is a ho-hum 55 percent. That compares to 90 percent for the 2019 movie.
Families — which played a key role in the first movie’s surprise success — remain a challenged moviegoing demo in the pandemic era.
One advantage: the pic is playing in Imax and other premium-format theaters, which carry an upcharge.

The following article contains spoilers for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods."
"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is in theaters now, and if you've seen it, you know how much it relies on characters and creatures from Greek mythology. Of course, there have been some changes, but from the Daughters of Atlas to Ladon the dragon to manticores, harpies, minotaurs, cyclops, and unicorns, there is a lot of fun lore in here.
In the film, the Daughters of Atlas have come from the Realm of the Gods to find a dangerous artifact — a golden apple from the tree in the Garden of the Hesperides — which could destroy our world. The Shazamily, led by Billy Batson (Asher Angel), aka Shazam (Zachary Levi), have to take them down before they wreck the realm with beings only spoken of in stories and lore. Shazam, the character, is already connected to Greek myth, of course,...

Now that Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is in theaters, Rachel Zegler is opening up about why she took the role of Anthea in the DC film. As the loud but lithe Shazam!: Fury of the Gods commences, our hero is suffering from a bit of imposter syndrome. Lying on a couch, spilling his guts to a shrink (who turns out to be a mere pediatrician), the as-yet-unnamed superhero (Zachary Levi) explains that he’s just a kid, a dude that got lucky, that all the cool heroes already exist, and he really doesn’t belong. All of which makes him the perfect star of this sequel and this DC franchise. These movies don’t have...

Rachel Zegler is getting candid about the real reason she joined the DC Universe and it’s quite relatable.
While talking with The Hollywood Reporter at the Shazam! Fury of the Gods premiere Tuesday, the West Side Story actress said she stepped into the role of Anthea because she “needed a job. I’m being so serious.”
“The reality is we’re in the middle of a pandemic and I was not working and I couldn’t get a job for the life of me, because West Side Story hadn’t come out yet,” she confessed. “It was really hard to book work for me.”
The David F. Sandberg-directed sequel follows Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his fellow foster children as they continue to navigate being teens along with their adult superhero alter egos. Only this time, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, daughters of Atlas — Hespera (Helen Mirren...

The dawn of a new DC Universe is upon us, with James Gunn and Peter Safran planning a new slate of film, TV and gaming projects. But before we get there, we have nine months of what feels like the last gasps of the Dceu, which is coming to an end, almost poetically, a decade after it made its debut with Man of Steel in 2013.
First out of the gate is David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the sequel to Shazam! (2019), which proved to be a modest sized hit and was considered another course-correcting step in the right direction for the DC franchise, the third to be exact, but who’s counting? Some critics even referred to it as the best film in the Dceu to date. A sequel should, in theory, be a big draw as the opening salvo for the three other DC films scheduled this year,...

DC and New Line Cinema’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods is hoping for some heavenly help when opening this weekend in thousands of theaters across the U.S. and world.
According to prerelease tracking, the superhero pic is expected to start off with $35 million-plus in North America, compared to the $53.5 million domestic debut of Shazam! in 2019, not adjusted for inflation. No major Hollywood studios sets out to make a sequel that doesn’t match the first, leaving many to wonder whether tracking is being too conservative in this instance.
Yet families — which played a key role in the first movie’s performance — remain a challenged moviegoing demo in the pandemic era.

‘Shazam!: Fury of the Gods’ is a sequel to the 2019 DC hit

The movie picks up with Billy Batson and his foster siblings — who can all turn into powerful superheroes by saying “Shazam!” — as they battle new enemies, the Daughters of Atlas. Poor Shazam. Its production and release hampered by Covid and now seemingly lame-ducked by the arrival of a new regime to run DC Studios, the big red-suited lug’s second movie, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, finally makes its lonely stand in an effort to tap into the good will generated by his 2019 big-screen debut and, perhaps, plead its case to keep this off-brand DC franchise going.
We say off-brand because when the first Shazam! came out, it was a fun, funny, family-oriented, brightly-colored antidote to the ponderous, dark, heavy-handed edgelord theatrics of the Snyderverse that dominated DC for nearly a decade. It had heart, its stakes were relatively small, and its hero was much more relatably human than the brooding bro-dudes and psychotics we had gotten used to from the Dceu.

Plot: After the events in the previous film, it appears Shazam has made a bit of a blunder. It’s a big enough of one to bring the Daughters of Atlas to unleash a little Hell on Earth.
Review: One of the joys of David F. Sandberg’s Shazam was the filmmaker’s mix of humor with a touch of horror. The comedic superhero excelled with the laughs. As well as a few moments fitting of the director’s previous films, Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation. And now, he is back with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Zachary Levi is once again leading the charge. As is the rest of this charming cast. Why did they give Zachary Levi a haircut for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”? Four years ago, in the first “Shazam!,” Levi played a kid in a superhero’s body, and the movie was smart and witty enough to come off as a caped version of “Big.” Levi’s look was a major part of it. Shazam, with that cheesy lightning bolt and gold belt and white Italian-restaurant tablecloth of a cape, didn’t resemble other recent comic-book-film heroes; he was more like something out of the ’40s. And Levi sealed the deal was his big popping eyes and ingenuous gee-whiz grin, as well as the hair that topped off his boyish spirit. It was dark and shiny and stood up an inch-and-a-half from his head — a ‘do as superhero stylized, in its way, as the old Superman’s.

Shazam!, released in 2019, was the story of Billy (Asher Angel), a teenage boy granted the ability to transform into an adult, off-brand Superman (Zachary Levi) with the simple cry of the film’s title. Today it is rarely upheld as a highlight in DC’s catalogue, but at a time in which the studio’s output so often felt exhaustingly cataclysmic, it was refreshing to see a superhero movie that forefronted sweetness and sincerity.
What a difference four years make. Shazam!’s sequel, Fury of the Gods, has now been sent out, defenceless, into DC’s cinematic no man’s land. The film marks one of the last breaths of an old regime at the studio, which is now under the control of Peter Safran and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. Their universe will presumably dispense with the dishevelled approach to tone and continuity that characterised the tenure of their predecessor Walter Hamada.

More than most superhero films of its era, 2019's "Shazam" truly feels like a live-action comic book. It's bright, ludicrous, fun, and embraces a decided lack of gritty realism. Unlike so many superhero outings of its era, it doesn't celebrate soldiers, spies, deities by birth, or inventors, but instead centers the central question "what if good but underprivileged foster kids gained the powers of the gods?" It's an excellent premise that the first film successfully milks for both comedic and dramatic purposes.
In the sequel "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," the stakes, of course, are raised even higher. We first meet a Shazam (Zachary Levi) at a crisis. Try as they might, the Shazam Family's super heroics continually sour their reputation with amateur-hour mistakes, and he doesn't know how to lead them. At the same time, he's worried about his foster family falling apart, with Billy Batson (Asher Angel) nearing...

Shazam! Fury of the Gods comes four years after its predecessor, introducing new forces that threaten Billy Batson and his superpowered family. The DC Extended Universe is once again changing direction under new leadership, but the fandom still has the opportunity to explore this continuation. The sequel doesn’t improve on the original, although it finds the beats that comic fans are looking for.

The Shazamily is back, and on a much larger scale, but at its heart this superhero saga is still about family, and that’s the good thing here.
In 2019’s origin story (which goes way back to 1940 comics when the then-named Captain Marvel was introduced), a group of teens in a foster home, often bullied in school and going through life alone, bonded as a family and as their older superhero alter egos. That movie, from Swedish director David F. Sandberg, was a nice hit for the DC brand at Warners and even won over critics. So naturally we could expect a sequel, even as this comic book brand is undergoing major changes. Employing the same mix of humor and heart, but really amping up the super-heroics as it were, this second edition bodes well for its future in the uncertain DC Universe, at least in terms of delivering on what finicky fans expect.

2019’s Shazam! delivered a charming origin story of the DC Comics character Billy Batson, a teenage boy who meets a wizard who bestows on him the ability to become a grown-up superhero upon uttering the magic word. Now, Billy is back, along with his foster siblings, who have similar superhuman alter-egos, in the sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. But like some children who aren’t so cute anymore after they’ve grown up a little, this follow-up lacks much of the appeal of its predecessor. While the film provides the elaborate action set pieces, colorful villains and save-the-world plot mechanics expected of the comic book movie genre, some of the magic is missing.

Zachary Levi straddled the past and future of DC at the Shazam! Fury of the Gods premiere, a splashy affair that made good on the premise of Big meets supeheroes with a party that featured arcade games and a carnival-like atmosphere.

Among those Levi thanked were new DC Studios co-head Peter Safran (a producer on Fury of the Gods) and former DC boss Walter Hamada, who exited his post as DC Films chief last year and who was instrumental in both Shazam! features. Ever since the DC universe was placed under new management with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm, fans of the brand have voiced their concerns and criticism of the decisions they’ve made. Most notably, fans were disappointed to hear that the big players of the Snyderverse were officially put on ice. One person defending the new bosses was Zachary Levi. The premiere for Shazam: Fury of the Gods zapped into Hollywood last night, and Levi would continue to be cautiously optimistic with Gunn and Safran as he spoke with Deadline on the red carpet.
Levi had defended Gunn and Safran on Twitter in the past by asking for patience from the fans as the new DC heads get the ball rolling. He says this as the uncertainty of Shazam‘s future looms overhead. On the red carpet, Levi stated, “It all comes down to what the people want.

When "Shazam!" first flew into theaters in 2019, the young-at-heart hero was a breath of fresh air. After being called upon by an ancient wizard, 14-year-old Billy Batson (Asher Angel) gained unbelievable powers as the adult superhero, Shazam (Zachary Levi). And as any teen boy would, he immediately put those powers to excellent use by skipping school, wreaking (accidental) havoc, and bonding with his foster brother, Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer).
At the time, "Shazam!" was a surprisingly pleasant entry in the lackluster DC Extended Universe. And though it found interesting ways to integrate horror, it veered away from the grim Snyder-era films with its distinct sense of humor. Between being genuinely great and earning plenty of love, a sequel was inevitable. Four years and a complete upheaval of the Dceu later, the Shazamily has returned for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods"! And based on the early buzz, they're more magical than ever.

And based on the early buzz, they're more magical than ever.

It’s hard not to feel bad for the next few DC movies. While The Flash has been described as a universe reboot, setting up the first chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios plans, dubbed “Gods and Monsters,” the others feel like unwanted leftovers. That’s particularly true of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a movie whose predecessor contained only the slightest Snyderverse connections, but doesn’t seem to be setting up anything in DC Studios’ future.
Of course, we could also talk about the movie as, you know… a movie! Not as a part of a larger story or a franchise extender, but as a two-hour or so piece of entertainment that we watch and enjoy on its own merits. That approach served the first Shazam! well, which updated the Golden Age hero Captain Marvel to not only give him a copyright safe (if infinitely...

It feels like forever since 2019's "Shazam!" came out. Covid delays kept "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" from being released until later this month, but our favorite kid in a superhero's body is finally (almost) back. The film once again stars Zachary Levi as Billy Batson aka Shazam, who fights crime with his foster brothers and sisters.
This time around, the Shazamily is facing off against goddesses in the form of the daughters of Atlas -- Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu), and Anthea (Rachel Zegler) -- who are looking for a dangerous artifact that could destroy the world. The kids are also trying to grow up and find their own ways while remaining attached to the people that love them. That's a lot to deal with for a bunch of people who aren't legally old enough to drink.
I recently spoke to writers Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan about the film,...

As varied and wide-ranging as superheroes and comic book movies can be, even rivals like Marvel and DC sometimes have difficulty separating one from the other from the perspective of general audiences. Darkseid may predate Thanos as the biggest supervillain of their respective universes in the comics, but guess which of those two characters would likely be considered a "ripoff" among certain viewers if he were to ever appear in a future movie beyond "Zack Snyder's Justice League"? Among the many, many, many setbacks that have afflicted DC's long in-the-works "The Flash" movie, you can bet that the Marvel Cinematic Universe beating their competitors to the punch by introducing Quicksilver as their major speedster in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" absolutely had an effect on DC's decision-makers.
Now, it certainly looks like history might have come close to repeating itself with "Shazam! Fury of the Gods." And we may have Benedict Cumberbatch...

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" will hit theaters in just over two weeks, bringing us the further adventures of the Shazamily. All the kids have superpowers now once they say the word "Shazam!", but they're in a rough spot. Their foster parents don't know about their superhero identities. They're all going in different directions. Some of them have crushes on goddesses. When a few deities show up on Earth to search for a dangerous artifact, our heroes have to find a way to save the day with the help of a wizard, a sentient pen, and some wild creatures. Zachary Levi once again leads the cast of kids in adult bodies, with Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler joining the ensemble.
I recently spoke to director David F. Sandberg about his cameo in the movie, the future of Shazam, nabbing Mirren for the cast, and why he prefers working with a lesser-known superhero.

Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler will soon be seen “Shazam! Fury of the Gods”, in which the two portray villainous sisters Hespera and Kalypso, daughters of Atlas, one of the legendary Titans of mythological lore.
The actresses recently spoke with Et Canada’s Sangita Patel about joining the “Shazam!” franchise, and spoke about how much they enjoyed working together.
As Mirren shared, big-budget superhero movies “are such fun. And when you’re working with, you know, women like these, it’s just pure fun, really.”

For Liu, the experience of playing sisters was markedly different from what she experienced with “Charlie’s Angels”.
