In Netflix’s “The Romantics,” a new docuseries about the legacy of Indian director Yash Chopra, there’s one word you’ll barely hear: “Bollywood.”
The Hindi-language film industry was so named as a portmanteau of Bombay (now Mumbai) and Hollywood, but its key players have always hated being defined by the West. At one point, Oscar-nominated director Smriti Mundhra asks her interview subjects — a jaw-dropping lineup of Hindi film A-listers, including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Chopra’s own wife Pamela — how they feel about the term; none of them responds positively.
“Hate it,” Ranbir Kapoor says while taking a sipping of his drink.
In its century of existence, the Hindi film industry — and the rest of India by extension — have catalyzed entertainment culture in ways that no one mashing up the words “Bombay” and “Hollywood” could ever have imagined. This is a world defined by mesmerizing music,...

Pamela Anderson has responded to Tim Allen after the actor denied her claims that he flashed her on the set of Home Improvement.
In her recently released memoir, Anderson recalls an alleged incident on the set of the family sitcom in 1991, in which she accused Allen of opening up his robe and showing her his naked body.
Allen publicly denied the claims, stating that it “never happened” and he would “never do such a thing”.
Recalling the alleged incident in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, Anderson asked: “How could you make that up?... You can’t make that stuff up.”
She continued: “He has to deny it because look at the times we’re in. What if he said, ‘Oh yeah, I did that.’”
Anderson added that “a lot of these stories” in her book are “just the tip of the iceberg”, before clarifying: “Not that story.”

Hulu’s 2022 release Pam and Tommy is a fictionalized retelling of the 1995 robbery and exploitation of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. Sebastian Stan and Lily James play the couple whose sex tape became household fodder after it was distributed and went viral online. Contrary to popular belief, Anderson’s Netflix documentary wasn’t her way of addressing the Hulu series or the things it got wrong. While Pamela, a love story allows Anderson to take control of the narrative the Hulu series spun — an irony considering she had to do the same thing when the sex tape came out — Pam and Tommy wasn’t the source of inspiration.

There are a lot of befores and afters in television history. Before and after colour transmission, for example, or before and after live broadcasts. And then there are the shows that catalyse great changes: before and after Seinfeld, before and after The Sopranos, before and after Breaking Bad. It’s the last of these that we are still feeling the ripples from: whether it’s Ozark or Happy Valley, TV drama is currently dominated by men thrown in at the deep end, struggling for their lives. And there is no show that takes this more seriously than the Bryan Cranston-led Your Honor.
As the second series opens, Adam Desiato’s death is still raw. His father, Michael (Bryan Cranston), has been impeached and seems to have taken the Unabomber as his grooming icon. He is approached by ambitious agent Olivia (Rosie Perez) who has the Baxter dynasty in her sights.

Following the release of her documentary and memoir, Pamela Anderson is opening up about her family’s response, working with Playboy and her previous controversial #MeToo comments.
In an Interview magazine story, published online Wednesday, the Baywatch actress defended her comments from a November 2017 interview with Megyn Kelly on the Today show, where she indicated that women need to protect themselves more, saying, “You know what you’re getting into when you go to a hotel room alone.”
“I could even take it a step further,” Anderson said in her recent interview. “My mother would tell me — and I think this is the kind of feminism I grew up with — it takes two to tango. Believe me, I’ve been in many situations where it’s like, ‘Come in here little girl, sit on the bed.’ But my mom would say, ‘If someone answers the door in a hotel robe...

Pamela Anderson released a Netflix documentary and her memoir this week, and amid reclaiming her own narrative, she’s found a fan in Britney Spears.
Spears — who has been the subject of a slew of recent documentaries, though she hasn’t been involved with any — is praising Anderson for speaking out. “I’m such a fan of Pamela Anderson,” the pop star said on Thursday in a since-deleted Instagram post. “She was the only sex icon at one time in America and she still is !!!”
“Pamela gave me an understanding that people should support you exactly where you are in that moment of your life … unless cruelty rules the world,” Spears said.
Spears also praised Anderson’s children for standing up for their mother. “I really respect the fact that her children stood up for her relating to the fact that people were trying to sell her story from the past,...

Pamela Anderson earned widespread backlash in November 2017 due to an interview with “Today” in which she appeared to victim blame the survivors of the #MeToo movement. Anderson told interviewer Megyn Kelly at the time: “It was common knowledge that certain producers or certain people in Hollywood are people to avoid, privately. You know what you’re getting into if you’re going into a hotel room alone.”
Does Anderson stand by that statement nearly six years later? “I could even take it a step further,” she recently told Ronan Farrow during a new discussion for Interview Magazine.
“My mother would tell me — and I think this is the kind of feminism I grew up with — it takes two to tango,” Anderson said, attempting to explain the rationale behind her controversial #MeToo comment. “Believe me, I’ve been in many situations where it’s like, ‘Come in here little girl, sit on the bed.

Pamela Anderson has opened up about her past experiences in a new memoir.
The former Baywatch star has released the new book, which makes several claims about many people from her past, including Tim Allen, and is also the centre of a new Netflix documentary.
While promoting the memoir, Anderson, who has been married six times, revealed details of her former relationships, and explained her decision to marry so many times.
The actor suggested that most of her exes “treated her badly”, telling The Times: “I also would not allow anyone to abuse me and didn’t want my kids to think it was Ok. And so that was always my red line.”
However, she named Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner as the one man she thinks treated her with “complete and utter respect”.
Following Hefner’s death in 2017, Anderson paid tribute, calling him her “friend and mentor”.

Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s infamous sex tape became household fodder once again when Hulu released Pam & Tommy in February 2022. Now, almost a year later, Anderson is taking back the narrative. Her documentary Pamela, a love story, premiered on Netflix on Jan. 31, 2023. While the Hulu series does come up in passing, it’s not the focus. Anderson says she hasn’t seen Pam & Tommy, but her son Brandon Lee has. Here’s what Anderson’s eldest son had to say about the Rand Gauthier storyline in Pam & Tommy.
Brandon Thomas Lee and Pamela Anderson | Netflix Rand Gauthier reportedly was involved in taking the sex tape
As Anderson points out in the documentary, they’re still not sure who stole the safe containing the videotape. Regardless, the Hulu series paints Rand Gauthier (Seth Rogen) as suspect number one, thanks to an article Rolling Stone published about the ordeal.

Anderson brought Rock to the “Borat” premiere without telling him she factored into the plot. The likes of Steven Spielberg and Rick Rubin were also in attendance at the event.

Ryan White’s new Netflix documentary, Pamela, a love story, captures the rise and re-rise of one of the ’90s most famous women, Pamela Anderson.

Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's love story is being revisited once again thanks to Anderson's new Netflix documentary, "Pamela, a Love Story." The documentary presents Anderson's view of her and Lee's relationship, including the births of their children, Dylan Jagger Lee and Brandon Thomas Lee; and the theft and leakage of their sex tape. Anderson and Lee had a whirlwind romance: the couple wed in February 1995 just four days after they met, and Anderson filed for divorce three years later. So, what went wrong?
In February 1998, Lee was arrested for spousal abuse, child abuse, and unlawful possession of a firearm according to EW. Lee was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading no contest to felony spousal battery. Anderson filed for divorce that same February, requesting custody of Dylan and Brandon.

It’s evident within minutes of Pamela, a Love Story, the new Netflix documentary on arguably the most recognizable blonde bombshell of the last 30 years, that Pamela Anderson is a stellar archivist of herself. Understated in a white T-shirt, sans makeup, typically bleach-blond hair loose and unstyled, Anderson leads the camera through trove after trove of records – VHS tapes, Hi8 footage, DVDs, dozens of notebooks marked by distinctively large, bubbled handwriting. Boxes of home videos and memorabilia, saved at her childhood home on Vancouver Island, all provided unrestricted to film-makers.
Pamela, a Love Story covers the full sweep of Anderson’s 55 years, from her turbulent childhood in the small island town of Ladysmith to her discovery by a Labatt beer scout at a Canadian football game, to her...

Bob and I started spending more time in Detroit, his hometown. We had our big family wedding there, where Bob Seger and Hank Williams Jr. sang for us. Our life in Detroit was full of music. I took for granted all those nights with Hank, Zz Top, Uncle Kracker, Eminem, and Bob’s band. To be around such talent was inspiring. It was a true rock-and-roll lifestyle, gritty and soulful. Detroit had an energy all its own.

Between the Netflix documentary “Pamela, A Love Story” and the memoir “Love, Pamela” from HarperCollins, Pamela Anderson has been spilling plenty of tea, including some embarrassing, ’90s-era anecdotes about Tim Allen and Sylvester Stallone. And while both actors have emphatically denied Anderson’s claims, director Ryan White is pushing back in defense of his leading lady.
“Of course, I totally believe Pamela because I think she’s always honest in everything — about her own shortcomings, but also about other people’s,” White tells Variety in response to Allen and Stallone’s denials. “That was our conversation at the beginning of this [process]. She was, ‘I spent so much of my life protecting other people. And I’m not I’m trying not to do that as much anymore.’”
Anderson’s candor has ruffled feathers. In the memoir, which hits shelves Tuesday, she says that Allen flashed her on the set of “Home Improvement” in 1991. “[He was] completely naked,...

The director of a new Netflix documentary about Pamela Anderson has described the Baywatch star’s reaction to the airing of Pam & Tommy.
Released last year, the Hulu series Pam & Tommy follows Anderson’s marriage to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, and the infamous sex tape leak.
The series was not given Anderson’s blessing, and she has spoken on multiple occasions in condemnation of it.
In a new interview with The Independent, Ryan White –the director of Pamela, A Love Story – recalled Anderson’s response when she learnt that Pam & Tommy was airing.
“I think the series blindsided Pamela,” he said. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh s***.’ I didn’t know what Pamela was going to think about it. I didn’t know if she was involved in it.”
“I didn’t know what her thoughts were going to be because Pamela is very unpredictable. She doesn...

Pamela, a Love Story is a documentary directed by Ryan White based on the diaries and recordings of Pamela Anderson.
This documentary is a brilliant and introspective reflection about fame by the hand of one of the greatest stars of some years ago: Pamela Anderson, the indisputable star of Baywatch, who became even more famous because of her private life and some video tapes.
We are not going to talk about gossip or judgments but this documentary provides a perspective that although it may not be unique, it is close and in first person about the trials and tribulations of a famous (very famous) actress and the difficulties she had in dealing with all the mobbing she was subjected to.
An interesting documentary not only for the fans of the Nineties star, it is also an open and honest reflection on celebrities and the difficulties in living with that kind of fame.

Netflix’s documentary about Pamela Anderson wants to wrongfoot us from the start. The very first thing we see is the Baywatch star digging out an old VHS tape, telling us she’s nervous to watch it. Wait, she’s not…? Not that one… Surely not. And… no! Obviously not! The Nineties queen of Playboy turned sometime political activist isn’t about to revisit the stolen sex tape that blew up her life at the height of her fame. Instead, she’s looking at old home videos in which Tommy Lee, her now ex-husband, proposes marriage (famously just four days after they first met).
