Whether you believe this is the final film in the Jurassic Park franchise or just the last film till they do a soft reboot, Jurassic World Dominion, after a year delay, roars into theaters this weekend looking to take everyone’s money. After a disappointing fifth film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, does the final film get the franchise back on track?
Jurassic World Dominion takes place four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, which resulted in dinosaurs living alongside humans and causing major repercussions with humans’ reign at the top of the food chain. Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) are now raising Charlotte Lockwood’s 14-year-old clone, Maisie (Isabella Sermon...

When Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World was first released in 2015, a portion of the audience balked at the idea that a new dinosaur theme park would be able to operate following the disastrous Isla Nublar incident in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993). But then March 2020 happened, and the world at large witnessed blatant disregard for public health by a great many people, corporations and institutions. All of a sudden, Jurassic World went from what some would call implausible to prescient, and that very sentiment was expressed numerous times across social media.
Trevorrow’s concluding chapter, Jurassic World Dominion, started shooting shortly before the industry-wide shutdown in 2020, but the Bay Area native acknowledges that pandemic attitudes and behaviors made their way into the film once they resumed filming in July 2020.

“Jurassic World Dominion,” the third film in the rebooted “Jurassic” franchise of movies led by Chris Pratt, made 18 million at the box office Thursday in its initial preview showings that began at 4 p.m. from 4,150 screens. It opens on 4,676 screens this weekend.
“Dominion” is projected for a T-Rex size 125+ million opening weekend, though it will be interesting to see how the film performs as “Top Gun: Maverick” enters into its third week after staying strong since its Memorial Day opening.
And a start of 125 million would in fact be below the performance of its predecessor, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” which opened to 148 million in June 2018. For comparison though, “Dominion” beat out “Fallen Kingdom” in its first round of showings, which made only 15.3 million in its preview showings. For another comparison, two weeks earlier, “Top Gun: Maverick” made 19.2 million in its Thursday previews that also began early in the afternoon at 3 p.

“Jurassic World Dominion” features the long-awaited return of Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill, appearing on screen for the first time together since 1993’s “Jurassic Park,” but there’s another franchise O.G. who’s part of the mix — Bd Wong.
Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu has also been a central player in the dinosaur film franchise since its inception, as Jurassic Park’s chief geneticist, the InGen scientist responsible for resurrecting these extinct animals. Memorably, Wu’s explanation for genetically engineering all the dinosaurs to be female (“There’s no unauthorized breeding in Jurassic Park”) elicited the classic response from Goldblum’s chaotician Dr. Ian Malcom, “Life, uh… finds a way.”
After sitting out the two “Jurassic Park” sequels (1997’s “The Lost World” and 2001’s “Jurassic Park III”), Wong returned for “Jurassic World” in 2015, and this time he had the memorable quip: “You didn’t ask for reality; you asked for more teeth!

Something has survived. That was the tagline for the first sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World, which was released 25 years ago. Yet it can also apply to the Jurassic franchise as a whole, as this series has survived—thrived, even—across three decades and multiple generations of casts.
And with Jurassic World Dominion now in theaters, we’ve reached the apparent culmination of the dino-action. Two eras of heroes, including Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), raptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), corporate executive-turned-dinosaur-rights activist Claire Reading (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Owen and Claire’s adopted and genetically engineered clone-daughter, Maisie (Isabella Sermon), have all come together to save the world from the rampaging menace of prehistoric locusts. And what a sight it is seeing all six of them standing shoulder to shoulder...

With 1990’s “Jurassic Park,” novelist Michael Crichton took a hard look at what was happening in the field of genetic research and warned, via mathematician Ian Malcolm, “Scientists are actually preoccupied with accomplishment. So they are focused on whether they can do something. They never stop to ask if they should do something.”
Across six movies and massive advances in visual effects technology, Hollywood has been wrestling with a version of that same craven because-they-can impulse. The original “Jurassic Park” film was the kind of accomplishment whose creation effectively justified its existence: Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster pushed the limits of what movies could depict, while keeping audiences focused on the ethical questions that had concerned Crichton.
Sequels were inevitable, and there, Malcolm’s words rang true as the franchise became guilty of the very thing it pretends to criticize: unleashing dinosaurs on the world with no real purpose other than profit.

More is depressingly less in Jurassic World Dominion, a legacy sequel that tosses in frequent winking nods to the 1993 Steven Spielberg thriller that started the dinosaur franchise and yet completely loses sight of the heart and humanity, the rapturous awe that made it so unforgettable. Whatever goodwill superfan director Colin Trevorrow earned with 2015’s enjoyable reboot, Jurassic World, he pulverizes it here with overplotted chaos, somehow managing to marginalize characters from both the new and original trilogies as well as the prehistoric creatures they go up against in one routine challenge after another. Evolution has passed this bloated monster by.
Universal’s sixth installment in a series that has long since left the Michael Crichton source material behind will no doubt make a fortune anyway; longtime Jurassic junkies certainly aren’t looking to reviews for guidance. But they deserve better; at least a...

Those of you determined to make up your own mind about “Jurassic World: Dominion” might want to skip everything after this sentence and wait to see the film this Friday. But for those of you who like to take into account what critics think, the social media embargo just lifted — and uh, yikes.
Yes, one could technically call the reactions mixed, since some people assert that they loved the film, but make no mistake: Most of the positive reactions also acknowledge the film has problems. And as for the negative reactions? At least one critic summed it up with a gif from “Jurassic Park” involving Jeff Goldblum and that giant pile of dinosaur excrement. You know the one.
Critics who hated it described it as “wildly repetitive,” “cluttered,” “a misfire on all fronts,” and even “just plain bad.” One thing that got mentioned again and again is that insects apparently...

The following contains spoilers for Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous season 2.
The second season of the animated series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, released on Netflix on Jan. 22, answered a lot of lingering questions from season one. But another cliffhanger ending has left fans roaring for more.
With a whole island to explore and a few years of blank timeline between Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom, the creative team has a lot of elements to play around with. What do we think we’ll see if Netflix spares no expense and gives us a third season?
Escape
As de facto team leader Darius declares this season, they aren’t waiting for rescue any more; the campers are going to find a way off the island by themselves. And they have proven they have what it takes, having constructed every kid‘s dream treehouse in the rubble of Camp Cretaceous. They built every kid’s dream treehouse,...

The following contains spoilers for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
At first glance, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous doesn’t seem to fit in with the violent PG-13 dinosaur rampage thrillers we’ve come to expect from the Jurassic Park franchise. Its comical and lighthearted approach to storytelling and character development, not to mention the fact that it is (rather beautifully) animated, makes it seem as though this was meant to be a spinoff franchise similar to Lego Jurassic World. But as the story of six teenagers beta testing Jurassic World’s new adventure camp attraction unfolds, it becomes clear that Camp Cretaceous is not only canon, but could introduce elements that may influence future plotlines.
Camp Cretaceous begins a few days before the events of Jurassic World, but even before the Indominus rex escapes and the timelines officially converge, there are tons of references to the movies. (I love that Mr.

Something has survived, and it looks a lot like the Jurassic World: Dominion production. About one month after Universal Pictures resumed production in the UK’s fabled Pinewood Studios on the film, we are getting a new behind-the-scenes look at the production, which is still centered around stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Clearly the studio wants audiences as well as their filmmakers to know safety is an urgent and primary concern for all involved.
Hence the release of the below images from the continuing film production, which was the first major Hollywood blockbuster to be announced as returning to work (the Avatar sequels are also resuming filming in New Zealand). While California film production continues to be indefinitely paused to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s a testament to the government response of other nations that some form of normalcy or production can continue. Indeed, these photos come as...

The fact that the entire island of Isla Nublar was wiped out by a volcanic eruption at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s first act looked to have made it clear that the franchise was well and truly done with island settings, not to mention the fact that the movie finished with various teases of dinosaurs roaming around in the wild with their sights presumably set on returning to the top of the food chain.
However, director Colin Trevorrow has revealed a new set photo that appears to confirm that John Hammond’s other tropical paradise Isla Sorna could be involved in Jurassic World: Dominion. Ever since the latest installment became one of the first major productions to resume in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, more and more images have steadily been making their way online to offer up some new glimpses of what the filmmaker has...

Colin Trevorrow has been playing a long game with the Jurassic World franchise. By reintroducing B.D Wong’s Henry Wu in the first World and then having Jeff Goldblum cameo as Ian Malcolm in Fallen Kingdom, he’s teased audiences for a full-on crossover between the casts of Jurassic Park and the modern movies, and that’s exactly what we’re going to get in Jurassic World 3. Yes, Goldblum’s back again, but so is Sam Neill’s Alan Grant and Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler.

Owen Grady himself, Chris Pratt, was asked what’s in store for JW3 while attending the premiere for his new Pixar movie, Onward. When Jurassic World rebooted the Park franchise in 2015, it was always envisioned as the first installment in a trilogy, and that trilogy is due to come to completion in a couple of years’ time. With Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hitting theaters last summer, production hasn’t kicked off just yet on the third movie, but director Colin Trevorrow – who’s been the architect of the series since World – has now teased what’s to come.
Variety caught up with the filmmaker recently and asked him if Jurassic World 3 would be the last ever film in the franchise. Trevorrow said that it was too early to say, but did tease that the upcoming effort would act as a celebration of everything the Jurassic films have been up to this point.
“I’m kind of a one movie at a time kind of guy, so my eyes are on this one.
