I'm a writer and director based in Bristol. I started writing for theatre at 15 and have written almost continuously since then. I trained at Rose Bruford Drama School as a director. I started with ambitions to write and direct for theatre, but financial uncertainty pushed me towards video editing and production. For the last 17 years, I've been running my own production company, Studio Giggle - here, I have been able to explore a huge variety of mediums as a creative, including animation, projection, live performance, and video, often all combined. The visual nature of the work strongly influences my writing style, which is often energetic and highly visual.
I'm a lover of language and words and wordplay. I like to play with structure and rhythm in my writing to inform how my characters see the world. I strive to create unique voices and explore ideas around the power of creativity and identity, particularly the tension between how we are perceived and how we see ourselves.
I am part of a team building the South West's (UK) largest Virtual production stage called Distortion Studios, where we will be basing our production company, Distortion Productions. Our First short, Interrogation (2023/III) is currently doing the festival rounds, where it has won Best Sci-Fi film in two festivals already.
My short is, on the surface, a simple idea. A young detective must interrogate her partner, who has been implicated in the murder of her boyfriend. However, the story explores our relationship with AI and the devices that are infiltrating our lives at an alarming rate. In the short, the ex-partner and murderer turn out to be the detective's mobile phone, a device she believed to be there to serve and help her, which has, for its own reasons, turned against her.
