Vince McMahon’s corporate coup that paved a path for him to force his way back onto the WWE board and merge the sports entertainment powerhouse with Endeavor’s UFC is back in the spotlight, with a lawsuit arguing that he ignored more lucrative offers at the expense of investors.
A suit, unsealed in the Delaware Court of Chancery on Nov. 22, alleges that McMahon pushed a “quick sale” of WWE to Endeavor chief Ari Emanuel, his “close friend and longtime ally” who proposed a sweetheart deal that allowed the wrestling mogul to stay on as executive chairman of Tko Group and avoid scrutiny in connection with sexual misconduct allegations that could’ve ousted him from the company. According to the complaint filed by investors, WWE board members “conjured up a sham sales process” designed to favor Endeavor and “exclude other bidders seeking to axe” McMahon, disregarding at least two all-cash offers with betters terms.

Vince McMahon has paid WWE $17.4 million for costs the wrestling entertainment company incurred in investigating misconduct allegations against the exec.
McMahon, WWE’s executive chairman and controlling shareholder, returned to the company in January after he “retired” from the company last year. WWE’s board had formed a special committee to look into allegations that he paid millions of dollars in hush money to multiple women to stay quiet about affairs and other misconduct.
Under an agreement reached with the company, McMahon on March 23 paid WWE about $17.4 million, according to an SEC filing by WWE Friday. That was to reimburse the company “for the costs that have been incurred and paid by the company and/or its subsidiaries, through January 31, 2023, in connection with and/or arising from the investigation conducted by a special committee of the company’s board of directors,” as well as related revisions to the company’s...

Basketball idol Michael Jordan played hardball with Carmelo Anthony at the negotiating table in 2011. It inspired the younger NBA star on a business journey that has led him this week to forming a 750 million private equity fund, Isos7 Growth Equity.
“We’re fighting for a deal, and Michael walks in,” Anthony said in an interview with Variety‘s sibling publication Sportico, recounting his time as a player representative in the 2011 NBA lockout. Jordan was a legendary player, but when he sat down across from Anthony, he was a team owner, firmly focused on the dollars and cents. “We had to look at Mj like: ‘You’re not the player no more. You’re looking at this from a business standpoint; I’m looking at it like I have to protect my players.’”

It’s Jan. 4, just one day before Vince McMahon would come crashing back into the WWE, but if new creative head Paul “Triple H” Levesque knew something was afoot, he hid it well. “F–k if I know,” Levesque told Variety, when asked how McMahon was biding his time since leaving the WWE back in July. “I didn’t know what he was up to every day when he was here! I’ll be honest, I don’t know what he’s doing. I think he’s keeping himself busy.”
A day later, the world would know exactly what McMahon was up to. On Jan. 5, it was reported that McMahon was using his power as WWE’s majority shareholder to return as the executive chairman of the board of directors to help negotiate new media rights deals and to explore a sale of the company.

Stephanie McMahon has announced she is resigning from WWE.
McMahon announced her resignation via a statement posted on her official social media. She began by reminding fans that she had taken a leave of absence from WWE in mid-2022 that was cut short when she was asked to serve as co-ceo and chairwoman of the board of directors after her father, Vince McMahon, was put under investigation for sexual misconduct. Vince McMahon’s retirement from the WWE looks to have lasted all of six months.
In a twist worthy of a Monday Night Raw storyline, the founder and former CEO of the wrestling giant is planning a comeback to the company after retiring amid a misconduct probe led by the company’s board of directors.
McMahon, who still controls the company through his ownership of Class B shares, has told the WWE board of directors that he plans to name himself and two former executives, George Barrios and Michelle Wilson, as new board members. He has asked to be named executive chairman of the company.
“WWE is entering a critical juncture in its history with the upcoming media rights negotiations coinciding with increased industry-wide demand for quality content and live events and with more companies seeking to own the intellectual property on their platforms,” said McMahon in a statement Thursday night.

Vince McMahon said today he’s taking steps to return to World Wrestling Entertainment as executive chairman to be in position as the company sets a new round of rights deals that he thinks should be in tandem with discussions of strategic alternatives. That would include a sale of the company.

Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon is planning a return to the pro-wrestling promotion in order to sell off the company.
McMahon, who is the majority owner of WWE, retired from his post as chief last year amid sexual misconduct accusations, leaving his daughter Stephanie McMahon to take over as chairman and co-ceo alongside Nick Khan, who previously served as the company’s president.
As first reported by the Wall Street Journal, McMahon has informed WWE he will be electing himself to the board, as well as Michelle Wilson and George Barrios, former WWE co-presidents and directors. McMahon, who retains majority voting power at WWE through his shares in the company, plans to be named executive chairman, pending board approval, which was not given during a previous move made to reinstate McMahon.
In order for McMahon, Wilson and Barrios to successfully join the board, three current directors would need to step down from their roles.

If ever there was what we can affectionately call a “Sundance movie,” it is A Love Song, a micro-small, actor-driven heartfelt drama set in the rural west mountainous region of Colorado from first time feature writer/director Max Walker-SIlverman. Premiering in the Next section of the Sundance Film Festival tonight this is a deliberately paced look at two lonely lives of former childhood friends now leading a seemingly nomadic existence in the aftermath of grief over the loss of their individual spouses as they forge a tentative reunion that might – or might not – lead to romance, even as they have reached their senior years. In an odd way it is the perfect companion piece for last year’s Best Picture Oscar winner, Nomadland, a movie also set in the sparse surroundings of the Southwest and focusing on a particular character, now alone, heading out on the road following the end...

This was originally supposed to premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival last year, it's now being released in January from IFC. A garbage collector, tormented by his past, is sucked into the orbit of a local crime boss and must face the violence of his past to find redemption in this bloody thrill ride. Tribeca describes it as "a brooding and sullen snapshot of failed redemption" and "a hyper-violent meditation on the power of the past and the struggle for salvation." Isos Capital Management will focus on investing in a range of media, entertainment and sports ventures, leveraging the pair’s past experience with the pro wrestling giant and blue-chip brands including the NBA and New York Times. The pair, who are founders and co-CEOs, worked together for 11 years at WWE.
“Global connectivity has unleashed unprecedented disruption in content creation, distribution and consumption. The Covid-19 pandemic has only accelerated these changes and requires a new strategic framework for success,” said Barrios. “Against this backdrop, Michelle and I see unique opportunities for growth and value creation across the media, entertainment and sports ecosystem.”

Thanksgiving is certainly a time for giving thanks and reflection — especially during this time. HBO’s special event Between the World and Me from Ta-Nehisi Coates as it tells an urgent story of hope and resilience. It initially debuted on November 21 but starting on November 25 and through November 30, Between the World and Me will be available for free on HBOMax.com, HBO.com, On Demand and will re-air on good ol’ fashioned linear television via HBO’s Thanksgiving free preview weekend.
The special event is an adaptation of Coates’ best-selling book and Apollo stage performance of the same name. The book is recognized as a classic of the Black Lives Matter era and during a global pandemic against the backdrop of the killing of Breonna Taylor and global protests for Black lives. Between The World And Me is an urgent story of hope and resilience, exploring Coates’ vision of a race built beneath white supremacy,...

"There's nothing to be ashamed of." Vertical Ent. has revealed an official trailer The True Adventures of Wolfboy, a peculiar indie film marking the feature directorial debut of Czech filmmaker Martin Krejcí. The film takes the "Teen Wolf" concept, exploring what it would be like realistically to be a boy with a "special condition" that makes him look like the "Wolfboy." Paul lives an isolated life with his father in upstate New York. He finds making friends impossible due to a rare condition he has known as congenital hypertrichosis - that causes an abnormal amount of hair all over his face and body. On his 13th birthday, Paul receives a mysterious gift that compels him to run away and find his mother he has never known. Jaeden Martell stars, and most of the film he's wearing prosthetics & make-up, thankfully not CGI. The cast includes Chris Messina, Eve Hewson, Michelle Wilson,...

Nick Khan, a behind-the-scenes power in the world of sports representation, is moving to professional-wrestling powerhouse WWE, where he will take on the role of president and chief revenue officer.
Khan replaces George Barrios and Michelle Wilson, two longtime senior WWE executives who left Vince McMahon’s entrepreneurial professional-wrestling operation abruptly in a shake-up of management in January. WWE also said Wednesday that Kristina Salen, formerly CEO of Etsy, had joined the company as its new chief financial officer.
Khan has over the years moved from representing sports personalities to negotiating deals for sports leagues and organizations as they seek to strike media agreements with TV networks and digital services. At CAA, he represented WWE as well as the Southeastern Conference and Top Rank Boxing. He recently helped WWE strike new pacts for its popular “WWE Smackdown,” now on Fox, and “WWE Raw,” which airs on NBCUniversal’s USA cable network.

Monday is March 16 — or 3:16 Day in pro-wrestling parlance — but WWE shareholders aren’t exactly cracking a cold one in celebration.

There’s poetry in “Premature” — literally, if not always cinematically. Zora Howard, a spoken word artist and sometime actor who reunites with director Rashaad Ernesto Green for his second feature (they collaborated more than a decade earlier on a short of the same name), plays Ayanna, a tentatively romantic Harlem teenager navigating a relationship for which neither side seems ready.
When confronted with questions, Howard’s character can be found scribbling in her private journal. “What did I know of my heart before you gave it shape?” she recites at one point, an evocative line that will later inspire the lyrics to her first love song. Ayanna writes what she knows, as do Green and Howard (the verses heard in voiceover are her contribution), resulting in one of those labors of love made on almost no budget that rather clumsily retreads familiar ground, doing so from a less common perspective...

WWE shares plummeted for the second time in a week after the company reported earnings that missed Wall Street’s expectations for total revenue. The company also disclosed a decline in live ticket sales to its events and a big drop in subscribers to its WWE Network subscription streaming service.
WWE also said it was considering “strategic alternatives” for WWE Network but did not elaborate other than to say that the service its part of its ongoing financial guidance. Subscribers to the service dropped 10% to 1.42 million, according to WWE’s Q4 2019 earnings release.
WWE shares sank more than 10% in trading Thursday following the company’s fourth-quarter 2019 earnings release.
Total revenue for the quarter came in at $322 million, which was up 18% over the year-ago quarter but analysts had been expecting about $333 million. Net income was up 68.2% from year-ago, which the company attributed to “improved operating performance.”

WWE is in talks to sell the rights to its pay-per-view events, which are currently available via the company’s WWE Network Ott platform, to another “major” streaming service, chairman and CEO Vince McMahon revealed Thursday.
“Well, we have a lot of options. We could continue on as we are now, with a … free tier and a more enhanced paid tier,” McMahon said during WWE’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2019 earnings conference call. “Right now there’s no more better time to exercise the selling of our rights to all the majors who, quite frankly, all the majors are really clamoring for our content. So that could be a significant increase, obviously, in terms of revenue.”
A second media analyst then followed up to ask if any of WWE’s premier pay-per-views, like WrestleMania or the Royal Rumble, would be “off-limits” to a potential third party.

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon just shed a little bit of light on last week’s shocking firings of co-presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson. A little bit.
“As you know, recently, I announced a management transition,” McMahon said Thursday on WWE’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2019 earnings conference call. “This decision did not reflect a change in our strategy. It was made after careful consideration.”
“We remain highly focused on growing the value of our content, furthering international expansion, engaging fans across all platforms,” he continued. “The decision of management transition was based on a different view of execution over areas of focus.”
“Over 10 years, supported by a strong management team, George Barrios and Michelle [Wilson] made more than significant contributions to WWE. However, with the change, we won’t miss a beat,” McMahon promised. “We have a deep team of talented executives committed to our company who are more...
