2023 was a year full of highs and lows for fans of “Outlander.” High: Their favorite romance epic returned for Season 7, Part 1 (which aired from June 16 to August 11) after more than a year-long drought. Low: But it just failed to receive any Golden Globe nominations on the morning of Monday, December 11. High: Starz officially green-lighted a prequel series titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” to air in the near future. Low: But that meant the parent series would officially be ending with Season 8. Deep breaths, “Outlander” fans — we’ll all get through this together.
Voters of the Golden Globe association snubbed “Outlander” in the top Best Drama Series category, and its leading stars — Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser for Best Drama Actress and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser for Best Drama Actor — were skunked, too. So why was Season 7, Part 1 of “Outlander” not nominated at the 2024 Golden Globes?

Outlander season seven’s midseason finale featured the Battles of Saratoga through the eyes of Jamie and Claire on the American side and William Ransom on the British side. The episode shows the British forces surrendering after the Americans overwhelmed British fortifications.
Although several famous Revolutionary figures have been both name-checked and featured in this season, Benedict Arnold is arguably one of the most interesting of them all. Arnold is introduced as a very friendly man and a key strategist in the plan to defeat the British. Claire mentions to Jamie that history only remembers him for betraying the American cause. How close is Claire’s fictional assessment to real history?
Arnold’s involvement in the Revolutionary War on the American side began when he was elected to captain in the Connecticut militia in March 1775. This overlaps with the events of last season. It was Arnold...

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode eight – the mid-season finale – opens with Jamie (Sam Heughan) still unconscious on the battlefield. A mother and her son are stealing items off the dead when Jamie coughs. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) arrives just in time to stop the thieves from slitting Jamie’s throat, holding them off by grabbing a sword and threatening to kill them if they don’t back off.
Don’t mess with badass Claire in full protective mode!
Claire berates her husband for getting injured in hand-to-hand combat. He’s a sniper and not supposed to be in the thick of the fight, and Claire calls him a “vainglorious, pig-headed, grandstanding Scot.” The only word Jamie takes exception to is grandstanding.
Claire admits he scared her, and Jamie thanks the love of his life for saving him again.

War is ugly, but every once in a while, even those in the thick of it catch a break.
After being captured by the Redcoats on Outlander Season 7 Episode 6, Claire caught such a break.
But even catching that break, this war will feel like an eternity as long as Jamie and his son are in opposition.
As I've noted before, I've not read far enough in the Outlander books to know if William ever becomes aware that Jamie is his birth father, but signs keep pointing in that direction.
Now that he's in America, he's crossing paths with the family on multiple occasions, and I can't help but sense that he will soon feel conflicted about his allegiance to the Crown.
William was raised by good people. He's got kindness in his heart, and even in short interactions with him, Claire realized how much he's like the husband she loves so much.

Fort Ticonderoga has been captured by the British as Starz’s Outlander season seven episode six, “Where the Waters Meet,” begins. After being delayed, Lt. William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) finally arrives at the fort and reports in to General Simon Fraser (Angus MacFadyen). General Burgoyne ordered him to report to the forward command.
Fraser notes that not a single shot was fired and that the Continental Army fled, leaving behind supplies including their cannons. However, William’s in time for the next battle as they’ve been ordered to pursue the rebels south. Fraser explains their plans, and William deduces the British are going to isolate New England from the other colonies.

It's been a while since we've spent a lot of time in the past-future, but it's quickly becoming my favorite.
It's not surprising since it's more familiar in terms of both society and sentiment.
I'd venture to guess not many of us have ever found ourselves struggling in times of war, but many of us have lost loved ones and grieved their loss or found it trying to fit in at a new job.
So, instead of starting in the present and saving the big finish of the past for last, this time out, we'll tackle the past first with Outlander Season 7 Episode 5.
Frankly, there's not much going on back there worthy of discussion.
Claire and Jamie have been through this so many times you ache for them.
They've said goodbye to loved ones, packed up, and gone to war.
That could be why it seems so easy breezy for them this time around.

Season 7 of “Outlander” began airing on June 16, which means it’s ineligible to compete at the current 2023 Emmys — that’s why it’s not nominated for anything on Wednesday morning. (See the list of nominations.) Even if Starz’s sweeping romance epic had aired within the eligibility period of June 2022 – May 2023, it’s unlikely Emmy voters would have showered it with much love. Why? Because, shockingly, “Outlander” hasn’t been nominated in any category in the past five years.
To date, the cult TV series has only received a grand total of four bids: music composition (2015), period production design (2016) and period costumes (2016 and 2018). The list of egregious snubs includes lead actors Caitriona Balfe (who plays time-traveling doctor Claire Randall Fraser) and Sam Heughan (who plays her Highlander true love Jamie Fraser), plus all of the show’s writers, directors and producers.

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode four opens with a short time jump to Lallybroch in 1980. Two years have passed since Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) purchased the property, and the family’s living in a mobile home in the front yard while it’s being repaired. Jemmy and Mandy have reached the fighting siblings stage, and Mandy hits her older brother with a stick. Mandy only grudgingly says she’s sorry.
It’s revealed Bree and Roger won’t let the workers paint over the dining room murals or fix a large spot on the wall. There’s still so much work to be done that the estimate’s jumped up to what Bree describes as an “astronomical” figure. They’re halfway through their money and not even close to having bedrooms at this point.

Like father like son. Too bad they’re on opposite sides of the American Revolution. Jamie Frasier’s (Sam Heughan) little boy is now all grown up and a redcoat. Brave William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) — who still doesn’t know Jamie’s his true dad — goes on a wild ride in the fourth episode of Outlander when he’s tasked with delivering a secret message for the British. “He is really eager to serve king and country, but I don’t think he fully understands what that means, the loss that he’ll experience and the brutalism of it all. He finds out very quickly, obviously,” Vandervaart, who joined the time travel saga this season, tells us in the fourth installment of our Inside Outlander aftershow. The opening scene of Starz’s Outlander season seven episode three shows a delivery man dropping off a chest with the name Jeremiah Alexander Ian Fraser MacKenzie emblazoned on the lid. We’re left hanging for just a moment as “The Skye Boat Song” plays, and then it’s revealed that the chest has been kept in a bank vault for 200 years.
It’s presented to Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) who, by the way, look terrific in ‘80s attire and new hairstyles. After revealing that Mandy’s doing great, Fiona Graham Buchan (Iona Claire) – who’s happy to have them back – gives them time alone to open the chest. Inside are a musket ball and scores of letters written to Brianna from Jamie and Claire.
The first letter she opens is dated April 1776, and Jamie assures her they’re alive.

This week’s Outlander episode, “The Happiest Place on Earth”, covers a lot of ground in terms of action and character development. The extended cold open closes the chapter on the Christie family saga, which allows the remaining part of the episode to set up re-introducing William Ransom as a young man who will have his own story, as well as setting up the main obstacle for Brianna and Roger to overcome this season.
After Tom Christie’s death, Alan reveals to Claire that he was the one who killed Malva. He was motivated by jealousy that Malva was trying to break off their incestuous relationship and her failure to get child support cash out of Jamie. Ian believes Alan is about to attack Claire, so he shoots him dead with an arrow. Claire feels guilty, but a passer-by tells her Alan deserved it for his actions.

For fans of the Starz hit series “Outlander,” the time spent waiting between seasons can feel like an eternity. The sixth season concluded just over a year ago, and in that time the cast and crew have been hard at work to bring out another season of the show. We also received the bittersweet announcement at the end of March that the show’s eighth season would be its last.
Season 6 left us with a monster of a cliffhanger, with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) getting arrested and sent to prison for murder and Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Ian (John Bell) setting off on a mission to get her back. Never a dull moment for the Frasers. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. Season 7 premieres on Starz on June 16. Many fans are understandably eager to see what’s in store for Jamie and Claire and the rest of the Fraser family. And...

Starz has released the first trailer for “Outlander” Season 7, which will premiere June 16.
The new season, inspired in part by Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” book series, will waste no time getting into action, picking up on the harrowing events of the Season 6 finale where Jamie (Sam Heugan) and Young Ian (John Bell) were racing to rescue Claire (Caitriona Balfe) before she was tried and wrongfully convicted for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds).
In true “Outlander” fashion, nothing comes easy; the trailer depicts much hardship to come for the Frasers and those they love. The American Revolution is in full swing and the chaos that comes with an emerging nation means the land they once called home is changing. Will Jamie, Claire, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), Roger (Richard Rankin) and their loved ones be able to change with it is a key question this season.
“I’d hoped that Jamie would stay away from it,...

Sing me a song of a lass that is gone
Say, could that lass be … Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Sinead O’Connor!
As a Valentine’s Day gift to “Outlander” fans worldwide, premium cable network Starz released the upcoming Season 7 version of the blockbuster series’ stunning opening titles sequence, this time featuring Irish songstress O’Connor crooning the show’s rousing theme song “The Skye Boat Song.”
Each season, the opening tune has been adapted to suit that season’s storylines, and has been performed by men and women, in both English and Gaelic, and at times it has featured orchestral instrumentation and even Caribbean-influenced percussion.
“We are honored,” proclaims series showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts about O’Connor lending her vocals to the iconic theme song. “Her rendition is, for me, a reminder of all that’s beautiful about ‘Outlander.’ She is talented beyond measure,” he says in Starz’s media release.
Say, could that lass be … Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Sinead O’Connor!

The opening title sequence for Outlander Season 7 will be sung by Sinéad O’Connor, following a tradition each season of adapting the show’s theme song by drawing inspiration from upcoming storylines and locations. Season 7 is set to premiere this summer.
“We are honored to have Sinead O’Connor performing ‘The Skye Boat Song.’ Her rendition is, for me, a reminder of all that’s beautiful about Outlander. She is talented beyond measure. Hers is a voice of the ages — one which pierces heart and soul — and embodies the spirit of the show,” says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer of Outlander.
Outlander‘s seventh season will pick up after the events of the Season 6 finale, which saw Claire (Caitriona Balfe) arrested by Richard Brown (Chris Larkin) for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) and for being a witch.

An American flag waves as Outlander season seven’s opening credits begin. Starz treated fans to a brief but much-needed Droughtlander break with the unveiling of a minute and half opening credits video. Debuting on Valentine’s Day, the gorgeous video features Grammy Award winner Sinead O’Connor singing the new iteration of “The Skye Boat Song.”
The opening credits treat fans to scenes of Jamie and Claire dancing as well as a few quieter moments with the family. But war has arrived and the credits also show the American Flag waving as men engage in battle against British soldiers.

Outlander star Sam Heughan plays tour guide for a behind-the-scenes look at the Wilmington sets. “Welcome to our version of Selling Wilmington,” jokes Heughan as the nearly four-minute video begins. Heughan’s co-stars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin point out key locations on the set, including where Bree met her real dad for the very first time.
Both Skelton and Rankin take the time to show off the cabin where their characters had their first love scene.
The set’s massive and Sam Heughan confirms it’s grown considerably over the years as they add more and more frontage. “Some of these buildings are only fronts. Others are indoor/outdoor,” explains Heughan, adding that one of his favorite new constructions is the Red Falcon that was built in season six.
“So in the middle of Scotland, we have this beautiful early American town and there’s more to come,” says Skelton.

Starz delivered mixed news for fans of Outlander who are currently suffering through Droughtlander. The popular series based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling books has been renewed for season eight. Unfortunately, that eighth season will be the show’s final season.
In the one-minute video accompanying the renewal announcement, Sam Heughan notes that every good story has to come to an end. John Bell promises that the series will go out with a bang. The video also features clips from Outlander events, and Heughan and Caitriona Balfe profusely thanking the fans for being there for the series since episode one.
Season seven will consist of 16 episodes and is set to premiere this summer. Season eight will consist of 10 episodes.

Jamie and Claire's story is coming to a close.
Starz revealed today that Outlander has been picked up for an eighth and final season, but the premium cabler has placed a series order for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel series from Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, and Maril Davis, who also serve as executive producers of the original series.
The 10-episode prequel series will center on the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser's parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
"'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain," says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer.
He continues, "the title is a nod to Jamie Fraser's marriage vow to Claire...

“Outlander” is coming to an end. Eventually.
Ahead of the show’s upcoming 7th Season, Starz announced Thursday that “Outlander” has been renewed for an 8th and final season. In addition, the network has given the greenlight to the prequel series, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” which went into development last summer.
Starz has yet to announce a released date for the final season, but with Season 7 of the time travel-romantic drama scheduled to premiere this summer, chances are the story won’t end until at least 2024.
Created by Ronald D. Moore and adapted from the book series by Diana Gabaldon, “Outlander” follows Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a woman from post-World War II England transported back in time to the 1740s. Already married in the 20th century, she also falls in love with Scottish rebel Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and builds a life with him — before being sent back to her own time.
