“’Me For Me’ was written with my good buddies, Russell Dickerson and Thomas Rhett. We set aside a few hours and just thought we’d see what happens. We ended up writing ‘Me For Me,’ which quickly became one of my favorites because it really felt personal and real. I love when an unexpected song falls out of thin air, especially with two of your best buds.

Next week’s CMA Fest in Nashville will feature hundreds of the hottest acts in Country Music. One thing it will not feature, however, is the Confederate flag.
Along with drones, bikes and drug paraphernalia, the festival’s list of prohibited items and activities now includes “Confederate flag imagery of any kind.” The event’s Code of Conduct further covers things like hate speech:
CMA is committed to creating and sustaining an inclusive culture where all people have access to experience Country Music. Therefore, inappropriate behavior such as discrimination, harassment, any form of abuse and/or targeted comments which may cause any person to fear for their safety at the Event will not be tolerated.
That includes “any displays of the Confederate flag,” according to a statement the Country Music Association provided to the Tennessean this week.
Some country musicians have, over the decades, wrapped themselves — or their stage setup — in the Confederate flag.

The ACM Awards for New Male Artist of the Year and New Female Artist of the Year are quite hit-and-miss when it comes to anointing future hit-makers. While the awards have gone to country superstars like Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, and Vince Gill, other winners have turned out not to be as influential in the long run, which makes predicting the winners a little harder than just choosing the highest-profile artist of the bunch.
Take last year, for example. Female nominees included eventual three-time Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress, crossover hit singer Gabby Barrett, and Caylee Hammack — all three of whom are nominated again this year — as well as Lindsay Ell. But the award ended up going to newcomer Tenille Townes, the only nominee besides Hammack with no Hot 100 charting songs.

Elsewhere, Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get was named Album of the Year. The “Lovin’ on You” singer also won Male Artist of the Year, while Maren Morris won Female Artist of the Year.

The Academy of Country Music Awards were delayed from April till September due to the pandemic, even though voting had already closed, meaning that nominees had to wait an extra five months to find out how things turned out. But that’s not the case with the best new artist honors, which the Acm traditionally announces prior to the telecast. For 2020, the trophies are going to Tenille Townes for best new female artist and Riley Green for best new male artist.
Both winners come as upsets, given the heavy hitters in those respective categories. While acclaimed, neither Townes nor Green has yet had a top 10 country radio single, and they were both facing off against competitors with higher media profiles and No. 1 hits.
The two artists will acknowledge their honors and perform when the Acm Awards are broadcast on CBS Sept. 16. The show is traditionally telecast from Las Vegas in the spring,...

At the start of this week, Priscilla Block was not widely known. The country-music singer-songwriter had just started to make a name for herself on TikTok with 330,000 followers, but had yet to break into the mainstream. That changed with the release of “Just About Over You” on Wednesday evening. The emotive ballad quickly shot to the top of iTunes’ all-genre chart. Almost instantly, influential radio host Bobby Bones hopped on Twitter, inviting Block to come on his show next week — and the song reached the Top 15 on Apple Music’s...

Maren Morris, Dan + Shay and Thomas Rhett were among the top nominees announced Thursday morning for the Academy of Country Music Awards, to air live from Las Vegas on CBS April 5.
Keith Urban was additionally announced Thursday as a first-time host for the show. It was expected that last spring’s ACMs host, Reba McEntire, might not be resuming the role after she stepped over to host the Cma Awards this past November. Hosts in recent years have mostly involved duos, with Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton pairing up with one another or McEntire.
The ACMs announced that Morris, Rhett and producer Dann Huff led the nomination total, with five each, followed by Dan + Shay, Shelton, Old Dominion and Justin Bieber with four. However, the math gets a little tricky with the ACMs and is best explained with a lot of asterisks, since for their tallies, unlike most other music awards,...
