Nigerian singer Mr. Eazi has linked up with Major Lazer, Nicki Minaj and U.K. singer K4MO for a new song, “Oh My Gawd.”
The track boasts a booming groove of clanging percussion and thick bass swells, all of it topped with pulsing synths that give the song a grimy edge. The track arrives with an expertly crafted dance video — directed by Alex Adjei and choreographed by Patience J — that takes Mr. Eazi’s opening line, “Knock knock, guess who’s coming to dinner?” and spins it out into a wild house party.

Jada Kingdom glides through the cheery “Budum,” her first single to be released on Diplo’s Mad Decent label.
“Budum” is produced by Emudio, who concocts a pinging, shuddering beat; Kingdom sings in similarly percussive bursts, slinging drumming syllables across the chattering instrumental. “It’s been such a crazy year with the pandemic,” Kingdom said in a statement. “I just wanted to release a song that is fun and will make people happy and want to dance again.”

J Balvin dropped his latest Colores visual, “Gris,” on Wednesday, directed by Colin Tilley. The clip sees J Balvin dealing with heartache in some very surreal scenarios: floods, fires, scorpion infestations, and a storm featuring a giant flying whale. The more negative thoughts he has, the more real-world disasters they bring.
All of it, of course, is done in grayscale to match the song’s title. It is the fifth Tilley-directed video for Colores following “Rojo,” “Morado,” “Blanco” and “Amarillo.” Colores, J Balvin’s fourth album, is the follow-up to his 2018 full-length Vibras,...

After enjoying much fanfare at his Super Bowl halftime performance, Colombian superstar J Balvin has dropped a gory new visual for his latest single, “Rojo.” The new song, as well as previously released songs “Blanco” and “Morado,” will feature on his upcoming album Colores, which is set for release in March and is available for pre-order.
The Colin Tilley-directed video serves as a cautionary tale to not be distracted while driving and to remain present. In the affecting clip, Balvin is en route to witness the birth of his daughter at the hospital.

Nine days before the new Lion King remake hit theaters, Disney released a clip from the “Hakuna Matata” scene in which a CGI-rendered Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa sing the beloved showtune with the facial expressiveness of a Real Housewives cast after two decades worth of intensive botox treatments. The clip suggested that The Lion King would be a soulless cash grab at best, a crime against humanity at worst. It also made it clear that the remake would never come close to eclipsing the cultural cachet of the 1994 original.

Yemi Alade had a cold.
Last month, the Nigerian star, who recently passed the one-million-subscribers mark on YouTube, flew to Los Angeles to work on a project by Beyoncé. But when Alade landed, she discovered she no longer had a singing voice. “I couldn’t understand what had happened to me,” she says. “I could talk, but I couldn’t even hit the lowest key.”
Panicked, she immediately went into full recovery mode. “I went for a steaming so I could get more moisture,” Alade recalls. “I jacked up on vitamin C.

Beyoncé has unveiled the track listing for her “Lion King” companion album on her website… a whole three days ahead of its release. That might be even sooner than expected, given how much Queen Bey likes surprises and somehow managed to keep the entire project under wraps until the week before the album and movie come out.
Beyoncé herself appears on nine of the 14 tracks, but it’s still a pretty big kingdom represented on “The Lion King: The Gift.” Guests include her voice-acting costar Donald Glover — billed for his musical talents as Childish Gambino, of course — along with her husband and child, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy Carter. Her musical cast is rounded out by Pharrell, Jessie Reyez, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Slatiel, SAINt Jhn, WizKid, Tiwa Savage, Shatta Wale, Teirra Whack, Busiswa, Moonchild Sanelly and 070 Shake.

On a visit to New York City last week, the Nigerian star Mr. Eazi visited a shisha bar in midtown Manhattan and heard “Como Un Bebé,” his recently released collaboration with J Balvin and Bad Bunny, three different times.
“They were playing the same thing when I went out to Montreal,” the singer says happily, lounging on a couch in the courtyard of his midtown motel. “I’m seeing videos on YouTube from [fans in] Panama, Colombia, Spain, Argentina. I feel this is the first time there is pure Afrobeats from Nigeria in the pop scene.

The 2019 BET Awards kicked off with a performance by Cardi B, who came into the night leading with 7 nominations and, not surprisingly, picked up the award for album of the year for her “Invasion of Privacy.” Other top nominees included Drake with 5, and Beyonce, Travis Scott and J. Cole, each with four. Bruno Mars, 21 Savage, Childish Gambino, H.E.R. and Ella Mai also received multiple nominations. The show, which is in its 19th year, aired live from downtown Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater .
The Bet Awards recognize winners across 20 categories in a “celebration of black culture.” Connie Orlando serves as executive producer along with Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment.
Picking up the first award from best new artist, Lil Baby told Variety, “It’s an amazing feeling. I can’t even believe it.”
His win was followed by one from the “youngest baller in the game” — 14-year-old “Black-ish” star and entrepreneur Marsai Martin,...

Major Lazer enlists English singer Raye and Nigerian vocalist Mr. Eazi for their breezy new song “Tied Up.” The featured artists trade hooks throughout the minimal, low-key track, which weaves fingerpicked acoustic guitars with dancehall-flavored rhythms and hummed backing vocals.
Rave and Mr. Eazi also star in the “Tied Up” video, crooning and dancing against a backdrop of city streets and overcast skies. South African director Adriaan Louw – who previously helmed Major Lazer’s clips for “Orkant/Balance Pon It” and “All My Life” – captures people playing basketball, popping wheelies...
