Michael Wharley
- Camera and Electrical Department
Michael specializes in advertising, portrait & editorial photography for clients across the entertainment industry, creating bold, striking imagery that balances narrative with visual impact.
He brings precision, technical skill, creativity and a sense of the dramatic to both his commissioned and personal work: atmospheric lighting; a sense of movement; a keen eye for capturing the story of a show, film or brand, in a still image.
Working in the UK and abroad, Michael's clients span the business, from large film distribution companies to freelance producers and actors. As comfortable on set or on location as in the studio, Michael's background means he is skilled at helping actors bring their best performance to the stills medium, whether it's a five minute shoot between takes on set, or a full day's 'modelling'.
Michael is an AOP member, a qualified Fellow of the BIPP, and the winner of a number of industry awards. Clients include: Kaleidoscope Film Distribution, Picturehouse Cinemas, The National Theatre, English Touring Theatre, Joe Public PR, Dressing Room 5 PR, The Globe Theatre, The Watermill Theatre, FFE, Samuel French Publishing, Nick Hern Books, Playdead Press, W.W. Norton, The Luna Cinema, Penguin Random House, Live Canon, Triumph Entertainment
Background: Michael read English at Merton College, Oxford, studied acting at the RCSSD, and worked as a successful stage actor for 6 years, before retraining at Photofusion in 2007. He has been a full-time photographer since 2010, and runs a busy studio at Make Space close to Waterloo in Central London.
