Washington — Jerry Brown doesn’t want to talk about impeachment.
He won’t say if he has a preferred candidate in the 2020 Democratic presidential field and professes not to be following the race all that closely.
At a time when it can feel like Donald Trump and the nonstop coverage of him can blot out the sun, Brown urges people not to obsess so much over Trump and to reject a view of the world that sees the United States as the world’s superpower at odds with China and Russia.

Quibi CEO Meg Whitman apologized for comparing journalists to sexual predators, saying her remarks did not convey her true feelings about the press.
“I used an analogy that was inappropriate and just plain wrong,” Whitman said in an interview at Variety‘s studio at the Sundance Film Festival. “None of us are ever perfect. I didn’t intend it, and it’s not at all how I think, how I feel.”
Whitman reportedly compared the way journalists cultivate sources to the tactics used by child predators to “groom” victims at an all-hands meeting at Quibi, according to the Information. On Friday, Whitman said her remarks were “mostly accurately portrayed.”
Whitman was at Sundance to reveal a first look at the streaming service’s lineup of programs. She was joined by Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, as well as Veena Sud (“The Killing”) and Kaitlin Olson (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), both...

“Akira,” produced by Leonardo DiCaprio for Warner Bros., will shoot in California and receive an $18.5 million tax credit, the California Film Commission has announced.
“Akira” was by far the biggest of the 18 tax credit allocations unveiled Tuesday under the state’s Film & TV Tax Credit Program 2.0, which include eight independent projects. The movies will generate an estimated $408 million in qualified expenditures (below-the-line wages and payments to in-state vendors) and employ 2,575 crew, 812 cast, and 29,000 extras/stand-ins over a combined 740 shoot days in California.
“Akira,” based on a manga series written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otama and set in a post-apocalyptic 2060 Tokyo, will generate an estimated $92 million in qualified spending. This figure includes $43 million in wages to 200 below-the-line crew members and more than 5,000 extras/stand-ins. The project is scheduled to film entirely in California over the course of 71 filming days.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to shoot ‘Akira’ in California,” said Ravi Mehta,...

Exclusive: The once and perhaps once again Speaker of the House of Representatives may be “100%” sure the Democrats are taking back the lower chamber of Congress in today’s midterm elections but Jeffrey Katzenberg is playing his cards a bit closer to the chest than Nancy Pelosi, at least for now.
“I’m cautiously optimistic about our chances to win the House,” the Quibi boss and one of Hollywood’s top donors for the Democrats told Deadline.
As the number #1 bundler for Barack Obama over his initial White House run and 2012 re-election campaign, Katzenberg has put his money where his hopes are this political cycle too.
While simultaneously gearing up his Meg Whitman run mobile video start-up, the ex-DreamWorks Animation boss has raised millions for the Democrats in the past several months. Just a few weeks ago, Katzenberg and his political consigliere Andy Spahn hosted a pricey Beverly Hills...
