As the cover promises Laura takes the lead role for the majority of the issue. And all I can say is it’s about damn time! I have been waiting for her to play a part since the first issue. With the way this story arc has been structured it is effective to have this little detour with Laura in the driving seat. Remember we left the last issue with a strong cliffhanger so to suddenly veer off in this direction shows the strength and the confidence of the writing duo. On the subject of our dynamic duo, after 7 issues I finally noticed that on the cover either Percy or Lavalle’s name is first. Indicating who is the lead, in the case of #47 its Lavalle. I still think it’s more fun to guess though!

This was a lot of fun and I am not concerned to admit that my enjoyment of this really caught me off guard. I get sucked into anything with ‘Weapon X’ in the title and sometimes in the past that has burned me. But wow this was so much fun! That is high praise indeed seeing as it doesn’t really involve any alternate Wolverines I hold a soft spot for. Okay Old Man Logan is tried and tested, but I feel he has been overused. Here he is presented perfectly as like a Lethal Weapon ‘I’m too old for this shit’ Wolverine. Then we have Weapon X from Age of Apocalypse. That four-issue mini-series is a massive blind spot for me, but I am certainly tracking it down after reading this. In this story...

This week I wanted to kick off talking about the cover. Modern covers tend to have a bad reputation. Perhaps there is an element of me being biased, but I love this cover by Lenil Yu! Visually it draws the eye with the dual bursts of gunfire. Secondly having Wolverine and Sabretooth side by side in their old Team X garb is going to have readers and potential readers curious. On the subject of Team X and my bias, this issue starts off strong. Wolverine? Check. Sabretooth? Check. Maverick? Check. Personally, though I would have liked more of the story dedicated to the flashback. Maybe an element where the events of the flashback inform the current goings-on. But who am I to call out Percy on how to tell a story? Really the Team X...

I am a sucker for a good old-fashioned brawl between Wolverine and Sabretooth. They are actually few and far between when compared to other great comic book rivalries. Here is hoping that this is one for the ages! Just as a bug that is affecting all X-books at the moment is the timing. Again the cover carries the ‘Fall of X’ banner and on the credits page we get a caption explaining this story takes place after X-Force #50 and before the new Powers and House of X books. I have said before how wider continuity doesn’t bother me too much when it comes to reading Wolverine, but it can just take you out of the moment every now and then. Wolverine is slated to make a massive comeback this year with Hugh Jackman set to reprise the iconic role in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, on the comic book side of things, fans are already accusing Marvel of McU-fying Wolverine with the reveal of his new updated look from an upcoming comic issue.
Wolverine as depicted in Marvel Comics’ Sabretooth War storyline
Wolverine is set to get a suit of armor for the final chapters of the Sabretooth War storyline in the comics. However, the new look is reminiscent of the armored look given to Superman in DC’s New 52 reboot, while being similar to the MCU’s Iron Man suit. As a result, fans are pretty divided regarding Wolverine’s new armored look, and here is what they are saying about it on social media.

AMC has decided to bring back its horror anthology series, The Terror, for a third season. Season two aired in October 2019 and took viewers aboard a ship in Victorian England. In January 2020, the network teased that it may renew the anthology series, but that seemed to be the end of it.

AMC has renewed its supernatural anthology series The Terror for season 3 – and this time, we’re heading for a possibly haunted psychiatric hospital. Jolly.
The first two series of The Terror are spine-chilling, superbly creepy thrillers, and it’s with great pleasure that we’re able to report that the show’s returning with another hair-raising story.
Deadline reports that The Terror has been renewed for season three by AMC, with the new series will based on Victor Lavalle’s novel The Devil in Silver. Lavalle will also write the new series of The Terror with Chris Cantwell.
If the name Lavalle rings a bell, that would be for a good reason. His novel The Changeling was recently adapted into a compelling, thrilling AppleTV+ series of the same name, starring Lakeith Stanfield.
The Devil In Silver follows a man named Pepper, who finds himself committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital.

'Historical horror' is not a term that's been especially popularized, but it's most effective when describing the delicious combination of historical events and fictional horror. This subgenre has been quietly enjoying a great run during the last decade or so: not only have there been several movies that brilliantly mix detail-heavy period settings with creepy goings-on but there have been a number of TV shows delving into historical horror with much success, such as Showtime's "Penny Dreadful."
Latest on the scene is AMC's "The Terror," a series that so far has been able to vary its period setting, themes, and even tone thanks to being anthologized season to season. After the first season, which was based on author Dan Simmons' novel "The Terror" (hence the series' name), the second season went on to tell an original tale set in and around the Japanese internment camps in America during WWII.

It’s been five years since the last installment of The Terror, but season 3 is finally on the way.
AMC has ordered The Terror: Devil in Silver, a six-part series based on the novel written by Victor Lavalle. The story follows Pepper, “a working-class moving man who, through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets and perhaps even the very devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity that thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls. But doing so might prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.“

Kelly Marcel, who believes in signs from the universe and sees magic everywhere, was at home with her six-month-old baby when “The Changeling” appeared at the door.
“The book landed, I read it, and I was horrified,” the showrunner said, laughing as she recalled her overly intense introduction to Victor Lavalle’s dark fantasy novel from 2017.

Directors of the Apple TV+ supernatural series The Changeling, Jonathan Van Tulleken and Michael Francis Williams, spoke about how they created tension between characters in their new exclusive interview.
Van Tulleken explained how his first step in creating this tension is by “looking at the script.”
He poses questions to himself about the language like, “Whose point of view is it? You know how do you draw the audience into sort of this subjective dreamlike experience?”
Williams added, “It’s trying to bridge the gap between the audience and what we see on the page of the script.”
Actors can do this by using visual tricks to make viewers feel their tension.
Specifically in The Changeling, they noted that there are a lot of elements at play like, “magic realism and horror and suspense” that were helpful for the directors to use.
Williams explained how he was able to do this in his episode.

[This story contains spoilers for the season finale of The Changeling.]
The Changeling showrunner Kelly Marcel, and author and executive producer Victor Lavalle, say last Friday’s season finale was never designed to be an ending for the adaptation. But, they did want viewers to come away from the Apple TV+ series’ first season with a “what the fuck” feeling.
The duo, who appeared on a Saturday panel for the show at New York Comic Con, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the season finale, which saw Apollo (Lakeith Stanfield) and Cal (Jane Kaczmarek) — the leader of a band of women who have had their babies stolen by a Norwegian male-led cult called the Kinder Garten — joining forces against a cult member named William (Samuel T. Herring) and a giant, destructive “Fairy.”

Spoiler Alert: This contains spoilers from “The Changeling”, now streaming on AppleTV+
“The Changeling’s” latest episode steps back in time to New York — in 1982, to be precise.
For production designer Lester Cohen, he needed to find a place where he could build his red-light area and seedy hotel.
The episode begins with Lillian (Adina Porter) walking through the red-light district in New York where peep shows cost 25 cents. She is still trying to get hold of Apollo (Lakeith Stanfield), leaving him messages. It has been three weeks since he went missing. She enters the Elk Hotel, a seedy joint. Narrator Victor Lavalle, who also penned the book of the same name, describes it as “the shittiest hotel in the world.”
As it turns out, the hotel is 100 years old. The lobby decor is just as seedy — red and rancid. An old TV with the news is on when she...

[This story contains spoilers from episode seven of The Changeling.]
In “Stormy Weather,” the penultimate episode of The Changeling, all the flashbacks of Apollo’s (Lakeith Stanfield) childhood and the early days of his mother’s relationship with his father Brian (Jared Abrahamson) that have been sprinkled throughout the season bring viewers to the Elk Hotel in Times Square, a seedy location steeped in even darker memories. It’s there that Lillian Kagwa (Adina Porter) recounts the deal she made decades prior, which sets in motion the turmoil her son is now enduring as a father.
Through a series of monologues, a vocal performance and musings on faith, motherhood and identity that unfold like a secret stage play only select audiences have privy to, Lillian reveals the totality of the incident that forced her to emigrate from Uganda to the United States, and the chilling threats Brian nearly made good on one day that forced her to kill...

The Authors Guild, John Grisham, George R.R. Martin, Michael Connelly, Jodi Picoult and a group of other famous fiction writers filed a class action lawsuit on Wednesday against OpenAI, claiming that their technology is infringing on their works.
It’s the latest lawsuit to challenge AI’s use of copyrighted works as “training data” for their system.
In their complaint, the authors claim that OpenAI copied their works “wholesale, without permission or consideration.” The plaintiffs contend that the company fed their works into large language models, “algorithms designed to output human-seeming text responses to users’ prompts and queries.”
“Generative AI is a vast new field for Silicon Valley’s longstanding exploitation of content providers. Authors should have the right to decide when their works are used to ‘train’ AI. If they choose to opt in, they should be appropriately compensated,” author Jonathan Franzen said in a statement. Read the complaint.

“The Changeling” director and executive producer Jonathan van Tulleken broke down how he captured a “painful” scene that was inspired by “The Changeling” author Victor Lavalle’s real-life experience growing up. The scene — where Apollo Kagwa’s (Lakeith Stanfield) mother is compelled to leave her young son home alone while she goes to work — plays out in the third episode of Apple TV+ series.
Fear and uncertainty describe what a viewer might experience while watching the Stanfield-led horror-drama, “The Changeling.” But those words can also describe the experience of parenthood, which is one of the backdrops upon which “The Changeling” rests.
“There’s definitely strands of postpartum depression, how difficult is to be a mother, how difficult it is to be a Black mother,” van Tulleken told TheWrap about “The Changeling,” which was adapted from Victor Lavalle’s book and carries the same title.

At its best, Apple TV+’s new series The Changeling has been called “the most unique fantasy show of 2023,” and at its worst “mediocre.” Director and executive producer Jonathan van Tulleken is fine with either assessment.
“When people don’t like it, they really don’t like it; when people love it, they really love it,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter of the strong reactions to the horror fantasy, which debuted its first three episodes Sept. 8. “You never know how it’s going to go when you’re making something. All you can do is immerse yourself in the story, especially as the director, and hope that you get the best performances and the best visuals and that you can hold the story together and push it through.”

In 1999, Irish director Neil Jordan released a movie called In Dreams. Having already found success with The Crying Game and Interview with the Vampire, people were curious about this new Robert Downey Jr.-led psychological thriller based on the book Doll’s Eyes by Bari Wood (stay with me). The film, which tells the story of what happens after a little girl is suddenly murdered, ended up being critically panned and a massive flop at the box office. Every horror story is already somewhat spoiled.
Whether it’s a movie, TV show, book, or short story, the horror classification alone is a tip off to the audience; a warning that despite any good fortune these characters appear to have, their lives are about to take a sharp downward turn.
So unfolds the first installment of Apple’s “The Changeling,” based on the 2017 horror novel by Victor Lavalle and adapted for television by Kelly Marcel. Episode 101 wears the disguise of romantic drama, the story of Apollo Kagwa (Lakeith Stanfield) and Emma Valentine (Clark Backo), a rare bookseller and librarian who fall in love. There’s even a parallel flashback to Apollo’s mother Lillian (Alexis Louder) and father Brian (Jared Abrahamson). Packaged with Melina Matsoukas’ direction, Marcell Rev’s cinematography, and Lavalle himself narrating lofty ideas about fate and identity, you could almost forget briefly forget that promised seed...

“The Changeling,” a riveting horror series adapted from Victor Lavalle’s acclaimed novel, weaves an unsettling tale of a parent’s deepest fears brought chillingly to life. It’s a beautiful, meandering tale filled with stunning performances and many books.
The series commences with a haunting narration by Lavalle against the backdrop of an ancient boat navigating rough seas. This chilling tale of Norwegian witches journeying to North America evokes a sense of both magic and foreboding. Much like the boat, the series fluctuates between tranquil waters and tumultuous waves, thrusting the audience into a chaotic descent, mirroring the protagonist’s experiences.
Apollo Kagwa (played by Lakeith Stanfield) and Emma Valentine (Clark Backo) are at the story’s heart. Apple TV+ is back with a highly anticipated new series this September. The Changeling is a horror fantasy that might fill that Servant-shaped hole in your viewing schedule, but having watched all eight episodes of this thing, I reckon you’ll want to go into it with a little warning: it’s really, really good, until it isn’t.
The Changeling features acclaimed Judas and the Black Messiah star Lakeith Stanfield as Apollo Kagwa, who is a god. At least, that’s what he keeps telling us. It gets pretty annoying well before you start losing count of the times he’s said it, and it’s downright infuriating during one particular scene. The used book dealer had a pretty messed up childhood, though, which grants him a decent flow of empathy from us, even when he’s making our blood boil.

There are always fresher ways of telling a story. Storytellers ruminate on a fresh approach that would revitalize the whole form. Filmmakers are not much different. They have to dabble in the narrative, and they, too, are constantly looking for a fresh vision. The new series, The Changeling, does seem very offbeat in its approach to storytelling. Based on the novel of the same name by Victor Lavalle, The Changeling presents us with an alternate version of New York City in the hopes that it can then tell a fairy tale of epic proportions. This fairy tale is quite unusual, as it contains elements of horror as well, and at times, things become so nerve-wracking that it’s hard to process anything. The first episode keeps things very grounded, but introduces aspects of the horror and fantasy worlds to get us prepared for the upcoming episodes. Here is a recap...

A specially signed copy of Harper Lee’s classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” could be the golden ticket to new beginnings for Apollo Kagwa’s (Lakeith Stanfield) family in a new trailer for the Apple TV+ series “The Changeling.”
“To Kill a Mockingbird?” Emma, who is played by Clark Backo, said in the clip titled “What a Day,” which you can watch above, released Thursday exclusively via TheWrap.
The scene in the clip began with Apollo coming home and seeing Emma holding their son Brian. Apollo, book dealer, showed Emma his latest find.
“That’s right, a true first edition, original cover. It’s in pristine condition — not a scratch,” Apollo responded. “Now, a book like that could get us… $10,000.”

According to rudimentary Googling, Apple has a generally well-regarded parental leave policy. But according to the output at Apple TV+, there is anxiety in the water in Cupertino (or in the company’s Los Angeles offices).
Dropping this Friday, The Changeling is the second Apple TV+ series in five years blending fairy tale and horror to delve into maternal and paternal anxieties about nature, nurture and the price paid when parents are forced to leave babies behind to return to work.
Perhaps not as bluntly effective as Servant, The Changeling is an admirably ambitious series, especially on thematic levels, where it seems to be bursting with commentary on 21st century parenting. As storytelling, though, Kelly Marcel’s adaptation of Victor Lavalle’s novel is a mess. Though the series isn’t lurching through time and frames of reality without intent, its refusal to build any sort of momentum becomes increasingly frustrating.

Apple TV+ is launching the genre-blending The Changeling on September 8, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes. Oscar nominee Lakeith Stanfield leads the cast of what the streaming service describes as a fairytale for grown-ups, a horror story, and a parenthood fable.
Joining Stanfield (“Apollo Kagwa”) in the eight-episode series are Clark Backo (“Emmy”), Adina Porter (“Lillian Kagwa”), Samuel T. Herring (“William Wheeler”), Alexis Louder (“young Lillian”), and Jared Abrahamson (“Brian West”). Malcolm Barrett (“Patrice”) is featured as a special guest star.
Just ahead of its premiere, the drama based on Victor Lavalle’s bestselling novel sits at 75% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Huff Post’s Candice Frederick says “The Changeling is an extravagant genre offering about… well, many different things. Most profoundly, it’s about the natural horrors of life and death — as well as the stories we tell ourselves and those we love.”

“Tell me your journey, each of you. Tell me your life’s voyage and I will tell you who you are.” These words bookend the first episode of The Changeling, a new horror-fantasy series about a young New York couple whose lives begin to fall apart after the birth of their son. They’re spoken by horror author Victor Lavalle, who serves as the story’s narrator. With a tone that mixes supernatural elements with the gritty backdrop of New York City, The Changeling aims to be a dark fairy tale for adults. The series, based on Lavalle’s best-selling novel of the same name, opens like the pages of a storybook with the promise of an epic odyssey into the dark depths of marriage, parenthood, and trauma.

While we’ll have to wait longer for the return of broadcast staples like the “One Chicago” franchise, “Young Sheldon” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” networks are planning to lean on banked originals (like NBC’s “Found” and “The Irrational”), unscripted staples like NBC’s “The Voice” (with new judge Reba McEntire) and “Dancing With the Stars” returning to ABC, international acquisitions (“Sullivan’s Crossing” on The CW) and even borrowing buzzworthy shows from sibling cable networks (“Yellowstone” airing on CBS). Programming on cable and streaming services has not been as impacted by the production stoppage yet, with plenty of comedy (Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot), drama...

When you hear the phrase "fairy tale," images of Tinkerbell, glass slippers, or delightfully wicked witches might fill your head because the Walt Disney version of these centuries-old stories, where the original tales' sharp edges have been sanded off, has a firm grip on pop culture. Because of this, many of those who only read the beginning of the marketing copy for Apple TV+'s "The Changeling," which calls the show "a fairy tale for grown-ups," will be in for a surprise.
"The Changeling" channels Brothers Grimm, not Disney, and the series — inspired by the fable about fairies who steal babies for their own delight and leave doppelgangers made of twigs in twine in their place — sharpens the edges of the original story rather than dulls them.
