Valerio Carta is an award-winning Italian-Canadian director, screenwriter and producer.
He was born in L'Aquila, Italy on July 31, 1992, and he began his career in 2017 while still a film student, writing and directing his first short film "In the Pale Moonlight". He also wrote and directed his second short film "Remember Me", the first to be distributed internationally, screened in USA, Mexico, UK, Austria, and other countries.
In 2019 he directed Eclissi, starring the iconic Italian actress Sandra Milo, which had its world premiere on October 17, 2019 at the prestigious Rome Film Festival. After the premiere, the film was selected for other festivals and he received a special mention at the Murmat Short Film Festival in Rome "For having paid homage to the greatest cinema, building a Fellinian game of mirrors between muse and author, between fiction and reality, between dream and nightmare", receiving further positive reviews from critics and journalists.
His latest work is a visionary western short titled "Visions of Loss", currently in post-production, which will start its festival run in 2023 and is presented as his breakthrough work.
In his early works, Carta explores the theme of the indeterminability of time where the linearity between past, present and future is overcome. His directorial style is immersive, mainly based on handheld camera, with a non-linear editing made of rapid cross-cuts between different timelines, finally seeking a humanity of his characters through their experiences suspended between reality, memory and vision.
