The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is an American Western series that premiered late last year. However, it has already received a very positive critical reception, earning an impressive 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming the most watched show worldwide on Paramount+.
The show is clearly destined for a series renewal. However, to the surprise of fans, the show's creators have stated that the second season is likely to be very different from the first.
What is Lawmen: Bass Reeves about?
The Western-themed show follows the story of real-life Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves, the first African-American to hold the position in the Upper Midwest Territory. Director Reinaldo Marcus Green and first time feature writer Zach Baylin offer a twist on more traditional biopics by viewing the story of Venus and Serena Williams through the prism of their family. To the fore is Will Smith as the family's patriarch, who was a man with the ultimate plan - that his girls would go down in tennis history. Driven harder than a cross-court volley to help his daughters to succeed, we see the relentless way he set about getting Venus (Saniyya Sidney) and Serena (Demi Singleton) into the places kids like them seldom reached, coming up against the white establishment along the way. He may be a pushy parent but he has a winning way with it. In addition to the family focus, which sees Aunjanue Ellis on fine form in support as mum Brandi,...

Photographers lined the driveway of the iconic hotel while a who’s who of Hollywood — including Gayle King, Lupita Nyong’o, Niecy Nash-Betts and the cast of the hit Paramount+ series — posed in front of a black and gold backdrop. Inside the luxurious venue, even more stars — like Macro chief Charles D. King, Yvonne Orji, O-t Fagbenle, Anna Diop, Edwina Findley, Mykelti Williamson, Mo McRae, Eugene Ashe, Deon and Roxanne Taylor — mixed and mingled as the party took over the whole of the bar and pool area on a windy, yet starry night in Los Angeles. David Oyelowo as Bass Reeves and Mo Brings Plenty as Minco Dodge in ‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ episode 4 (Photo Credit: Lauren Smith / Paramount+)
Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode four kicks off with an unusual scene. Bass (David Oyelowo) sings while shooting a hole through a hat. He’s wearing tattered clothing, and it’s quickly obvious this is part of a carefully planned disguise.
The reason? Reeves needs to appear nonthreatening when he arrives at a woman’s door. Although initially leery of this stranger’s appearance, the woman – Widow Dolliver (Dale Dickey) – lowers her rifle and invites him inside, impressed that he can quote the Bible.
Her adult children, Wiley and Darrell, show up at dinner time and get into a fistfight…not with Bass, but amongst themselves. Widow Dolliver asks Bass’ help in moving them into the bedroom, all the while fretting about the sleepless nights these ne’er-do-wells have cost her.

In the last two years, Paramount+ has released 13 drama series, six of which have stemmed from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan. Some are directly tied to the hit cable (and now broadcast) series, like the timestamped prequels “1883” and “1923,” while others merely bear the prolific writer and producer’s name. All have been considered successful by the nascent streamer (if less so by the culture at large), and thus the Taylor Sheridan Television Universe continues expanding.
Its latest, “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” is actually built from both sides of the Dutton family’s ever-expanding fence — or it was, at least. While always about the first Black U.S. Marshall west of the Mississippi River, the seasonal anthology series was originally tied to “1883” before redevelopments set its story apart and Sheridan, who was once attached to direct, ended up solely an executive producer. Through four of the 10 episodes, I can’t...

Plot: The untold story of the most legendary lawman in the Old West, Bass Reeves. The eight-episode original series follows the journey of Reeves and his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.
Review: Bass Reeves is not nearly as recognizable of a name as it should be. In the annals of American history, we know Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and countless other iconic figures, but Bass Reeves may be the most impressive of them all. A key figure in recent series, including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen, Bass Reeves’ tale is tailor-made for a cinematic adaptation. Originally announced as...

For those who know, the true story of Bass Reeves has long been one of those elusive properties that felt made for film or television treatment. Born in slavery. Conscripted into the Confederate Army. Escaped and sheltered among Indigenous people. Deputized as a U.S. marshal and so famous he’s the alleged inspiration for the Lone Ranger. Not to mention one of the all-time great historical mustaches.
Every detail in Reeves’ biography is wild, but for reasons — or “reasons,” since we all know the reason — a filmed recounting of that biography has been restricted to fleeting episodic TV mentions in places like Drunk History and Timeless. So there’s no question that executive producer Taylor Sheridan deserves some credit for using his bottomless reservoir of Paramount+ clout to get a Bass Reeves limited series out of development hell and onto the air. I put “Letting more people know about...

The creator of Lawmen: Bass Reeves is setting the record straight about whether the show is a spinoff of 1883.
When the show was initially ordered, it was billed by Paramount+ as a spinoff of the first Yellowstone prequel.
Chad Feehan, the creator and showrunner of the highly-anticipated new drama, is opening up about what changed to TV Line.
Making the show a spinoff of the critically-lauded 1883 "was an idea we briefly talked about," Feehan explained to the outlet.
"But for me, once I learned some of the things I didn't know about Bass' life, and decided where we wanted to start the story and where we wanted to end the story, it preceded 1883," he added.
In a separate interview with TV Insider, Feehan said the idea to make it a spinoff was talked about before he was hired.

“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” is the beginning of a new television franchise and a dramatization of one of the most fabled, as the title would suggest, lawmen of all time and one of the first Black U.S. Marshals. He was also supposedly the basis for The Lone Ranger, something that is very clear from the brand-new trailer for the series, which you can watch above.
David Oyelowo plays Reeves, who in the trailer tells a child who asks if he’s a lawman or an outlaw that he’s “a bit of both.” Dennis Quaid is a Deputy U.S. Marshal who also seems to be a mentor. And Forrest Goodluck plays Billy Crow, Reeves’ sidekick and a very Tonto-seeming character. (Even the new poster that was released seems to evoke the spirit of The Lone Ranger’s horse Silver.) Barry Pepper, Demi Singleton, Garrett Hedlund, Donald Sutherland, Dale Dickey and Shea Whigham also star.

Below is the first teaser trailer for the ultra-prolific producer’s next drama series, Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
Lawmen stars Emmy nominee David Oyelowo (Selma) as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi, with Chad Feehan (Ray Donovan) as the show’s creator and showrunner.
The show’s official description: “Revealing the untold story of the most legendary lawman in the Old West, Lawmen: Bass Reeves follows the journey of Reeves (Oyelowo) and his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.”
Lawmen will be an anthology series with each season focusing on a different historical lawman and/or outlaw who impacted history.
