It’s sounding as though Sony and Paramount are going to be kicking off a Valiant Cinematic Universe between them since Paramount will be taking on other comic book heroes and villains from this label while Bloodshot 2 will be remaining at Sony as Vin Diesel is expected to return as Ray Garrison, the former marine that was killed in action and then brought back to life as an unstoppable soldier. It’s fair to say that fans and critics were divided on this movie since it was one of those that was affected by the pandemic, which is why it went

Bloodshot may not have been a huge success when it arrived back in March, but nonetheless a sequel is apparently still on the cards. The Valiant Comics actioner was primed by Sony to be the start of a new superhero cinematic universe to rival Marvel and DC, but unfortunately it came out just as the Covid-19 pandemic was causing theaters to close down and the result was that it made a mere $37 million globally off of a $45 million budget.
But producer Dan Mintz has now stressed that the studio is pleased enough with its performance on digital to move forward with a sequel. Mintz spoke to Cbr and, though he didn’t mention any specific figures, he did say that the response to it was strong and that star Vin Diesel and the team are still committed to continuing the franchise.

In 1992, every comics company had a guy with gun – DC’s Deathstroke, Marvel’s Punisher and Cable, Fleetway’s Judge Dredd, and then came Valiant’s Bloodshot.
In the 2010s, every studio needed a comics franchise to exploit for box office supremacy – Warner’s DC, Disney’s McU, and Sony, not happy sharing Spider-Man with Disney, picked up Valiant’s Bloodshot from the Columbia scrap heap by way of Paramount.
In the intervening years, filmgoers had already been treated to an endless array of gun-toting, cool-looking figures from Neo to John Wick (who just happen to be played by the endlessly fascinating Keanu Reeves).
There was no particular demand for one more, certainly not one played by Vin Diesel whose range goes from A to B. From Pitch Black to Hobbs and Shaw, he’s pretty much the same guy, without the range of roles his rival, Dwayne Johnson,...

May’s home media releases are off to a great start, as genre fans have a lot to get excited for this week. Two of the best genre films of the year are heading to both Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday: Osgood Perkins’ Gretel & Hansel and The Lodge from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. Tigers Are Not Afraid (which was one of my favorite films of 2019) is getting the Steelbook treatment this week, and if you weren’t able to catch it in theaters, Bloodshot hits various formats as well.
Other Blu-ray and DVD releases for May 5th include Exorcism at 60,000 Feet, The House In Between, Cry Havoc, Insecticidal, and Becoming.

At a point when comic book cinema is at its greatest height, maybe it is time for more films to arrive based on other properties that fall outside of usual suspects Marvel and DC. The grounds are now so fertile that we could see virtually anything from a comic book root grow and thrive on the big screen. We live in an age where, in the last few years, two (soon to be three) Ant-Man films have been made, Aquaman became the Dceu’s largest grossing film, Joker swept the board in academy award nominations and Avengers: Endgame dethroned Avatar’s box office crown. Anything is possible and the world seems ready for any new comic book films, let alone one based on successful material and with future aspirations.

Eiza Gonzalez Hopes Bloodshot's Early Digital Release Brings 'Escape and Excitement' During Pandemic
Eiza Gonzalez hopes her new movie Bloodshot will bring some comfort to fans worldwide as they practice social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A deleted scene from Vin Diesel actioner Bloodshot has been released online, giving an extra fragment of the mediocre film should you actually wish to see it, and can be viewed above.
The movie follows marine Ray Garrison, who’s killed by a group of mercenaries in revenge for foiling an operation of theirs. He’s resurrected using nanotechnology by a cybernetic company specializing in enhancing injured soldiers, only to realize he’s being repeatedly implanted with false memories and used as an assassin to take out their competition.
The deleted scene takes place early in the movie after Ray is brought back from the dead for what he believes to be the first time, providing him with a little information about his new physical and psychological state. It briefly touches on an explanation for why the process resulted in his memory being erased while all of his other faculties remained undamaged,...

Built around a comic-book hero created in 1992, Dave Wilson’s Valiant Comics adaptation “Bloodshot” is a throwback actioner that likely would have killed in the late ’90s, but now feels every inch the product of that era’s humor and innovation. In a rapidly changing world, however, that might not be a bad thing.

Vin Diesel‘s Bloodshot is getting an early digital release straight from theaters.
In a People exclusive look at the gag reel for the action film, Diesel and costars Sam Heughan, Guy Pearce and Eiza Gonzalez share several laughs while behind the scenes.
Complete with actors struggling with props and lots of breakdancing on set to kill time, the cast of Bloodshot certainly had fun making the David S. F. Wilson-directed movie.
In one comical scene, Outlander star Heughan tries to spit out his gum but ultimately fails, saying, “That one was my idea,” as the crew can be heard laughing off-screen.

Ticket sales at Australian cinemas plunged to a new low last weekend as coronavirus-wary audiences ignored almost all the new releases.
The top 20 titles generated a mere $6.79 million, 25 per cent down on the previous frame, which had been the worst weekend of the year, according to Numero.
This morning exhibitors and distributors were struggling to recall the last time the weekend grosses fell to such a nadir.
Typifying the market’s malaise, only Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot and Universal’s The Invisible Man in week three cracked $1 million.
In the Us, where some cinemas have closed, the estimated weekend take of $US55.3 million was the lowest since 1998.
The government’s ban on gatherings of more than 500 people has not impacted cinemas, at least for now.
Hoyts Cinemas CEO Damian Keogh tells If: “We have no immediate plans to close cinemas but will be guided by government policy.

The latest comic-book to be adapted as a film, Bloodshot, stars Vin Diesel as a recently murdered soldier named Ray Garrison who is resurrected and bestowed with super strength and healing abilities thanks to nanotechnology coursing through his veins. Now, of course, he’s hell bent on exacting revenge on those that not only caused his early demise, but robbed him of the love of his life. Or is he? Unfortunately, that is where the intrigue takes leave of Bloodshot leaving a slog of a movie to get through.
Somehow, the film’s one hour and forty-nine minute running time ends up feeling much longer than it is as the story drags on and on and never finds a rhythm of any kind. Halfway through the film, it begins to feel like all of its conflicts are starting to resolve and then it carries on for another fifty minutes creating...

In the new superhero action film, Bloodshot, Vin Diesel plays Ray Garrison, a soldier who watches his wife die at the hands of brutal terrorists before he himself is killed—or so he thinks. But Ray is resurrected as a super-soldier thanks to “nanites,” microscopic intelligent machines that have replaced his bloodstream and altered his memories. This process is thanks to Dr. Emil Harting (Guy Pearce) and his Rising Spirit Technologies.
Part of Harting’s team at Rst are his previous experiments—an enhanced combat unit consisting of Jimmy Dalton (Outlander’s Sam Heughan), KT (Eiza Gonzalez of Baby Driver) and Tibbs (Alex Hernandez). When Ray breaks away from the control of Harting and Rst, with the others in pursuit, he enlists the help of Wilfred Wigans (Lamorne Morris), a socially awkward but brilliant hacker who helps Ray in his quest to learn the truth about his past and take control of his life.

Sony Pictures’ “Bloodshot,” a comic book movie and superhero thriller starring Vin Diesel, earned $1.2 million at the box office in its Thursday night previews beginning at 5 p.m. from over 2,631 screens. It opens on over 2,800 screens this weekend.
In second place among new releases and what was expected could be the biggest wide opening this weekend was “I Still Believe,” the faith-based movie from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company that earned $780,000 in previews. Behind that was Universal and Blumhouse’s provocative thriller “The Hunt,” which made $435,000.
All three films are opening a day after studios canceled and postponed a wave of tentpole movies meant to come out between this month and the middle of the summer over fears of the coronavirus, so time will tell just how much of an effect that will have on the remaining films at the box office.

First-time director David Sf Wilson's "Bloodshot" is an origin story of the eponymous superhero, a popular Valiant Comics Character, and revenge propels its plot. Set in an unnamed metropolis of darkly gleaming skyscrapers, the film is surely fun to watch, but it never feels grounded in reality. You never feel like there is anything at stake either, because we are given to understand that our hero is invincible. He does not get damaged by virtually anything, so it makes the action sequences that play out feel like a breeze to watch.

Okay action flick fans, it’s still fairly early in the movie year but who’s ready for a high-octane thriller based on a comic book character? I’m guessing the answer’s a resounding yes, though the superheroes don’t generally invade the multiplex for several more weeks. So which comics publishing company is the print home of the possible subject of a new big franchise? It’s not the current “golden stable of stars” Marvel (now part of the “Mouse House”). Nor is it the older line that’s trying hard to “catch up”, DC (linked with Warner Brothers). Perhaps it’s Image, the upstarts that gave us Spawn? Nope, but you’re getting closer. One of its ilk from around the same era is Valiant Comics (Entertainment as they expand), part of the independent press explosion of the early to mid-1990s. Back then the readers were...

With a number of successful film series on his resume – the Fast and Furious movies, the Riddick trilogy and even a couple of xXx entries — Vin Diesel is practically a franchise unto himself. Yet, his voice work as Groot in four Marvel Cinematic Universe movies aside, Diesel has somewhat surprisingly never played a lead superhero in a movie ripped right out of the pages of a comic book.
Until now. Diesel stars in Bloodshot, an action thriller based on the Valiant Comics title about a technologically enhanced super soldier who struggles to remember his past life and keep himself from being manipulated by those who created him. The character and Valiant itself, while not quite having the cultural footprint of either the Marvel or DC rosters, have had a loyal following for years and may launch the next significant onscreen comic book universe if Bloodshot is a success.

Everyone wants a piece of the superhero genre’s oversize box office, which can engender a certain sameness among wannabe blockbusters. But standing out amid the well-defined brands of Marvel and DC is a challenge Sony’s “Bloodshot,” which bows in theaters March 13, met with a high-energy, realism-based approach to its 1,500 visual-effects shots.
First-time feature director David S.F. Wilson brings decades of experience to the film as co-founder, along with “Deadpool” director Tim Miller, of acclaimed visual effects house Blur Studio. Wilson says that as a stylistic starting point, he aspired to give “Bloodshot” the energy of a Tony Scott film.
“It was a big part of how we carve out a little slice of the [superhero] pie for ourselves,” says Wilson. “The best head start I could give [visual effects supervisor Chris Harvey] was a look that didn’t already feel” like Marvel or DC. If predicting box office openings wasn’t worse enough for the industry, the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. has studios and exhibition at the edge of their seats as concerns swell about how bad the impact might be.

“Bloodshot” might not be an entry in “The Fast and the Furious” series, but friends and family were still the major themes at Tuesday’s premiere of Vin Diesel’s Valiant Comics adaptation. In fact, the star revealed that he wouldn’t even be playing the titular super soldier Ray Garrison were it not for his son’s encouragement.
“My kid did it,” Diesel told Variety at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif. “This is the second time. … The only two pre-existing characters I’ve ever played — and those of you who know my work, know it’s Groot [in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’] and ‘Bloodshot.’ Both of them, in some way, I can attribute to my son.”
Diesel then quickly dashed away to greet his co-stars for group photos. “I would’ve dressed up!” he shouted to the group, as he complimented their outfits and crowded in for handshakes and hugs.

Dave Wilson’s Bloodshot adaptation is a sanitized superhero origin story that never elevates itself above preconceived expectations. Vin Diesel plays deadly serious despite the film’s tone crying for a more energetic leading protagonist. Tank tops, bulgy biceps, and hard stares detail a comic book movie that lifelessly jumps from page to screen. Dialogue only favors one eccentric hacker, action interludes are frustrating, whirly-blurry messes – hell, I can’t recall the name “Bloodshot” uttered once. Frankly, this could be retitled Angry Science Experiment Man and no editing room modifications would be needed. Worst of all? Cinema’s most unforgivable sin is committed: the fate of being forgettable.

At this point, it’s hard to imagine that any comic book properties haven’t been mined for film. However, we have a new one in Bloodshot, but it does seem rather unlikely to start up a new franchise for star Vin Diesel. While on paper, this flick must have seemed like a cool vehicle for him, it instead offers up nothing we haven’t seen before, along with a visual style where you can never see anything during the myriad action scenes. In short order, you become disengaged and frankly rather frustrated. Those who expect a sequel from this initial outing are likely to be very disappointed. A movie hero gets unplugged from the web of grand illusion he’s been living in, then dunked into the reality behind the façade. That’s what happened in “The Matrix,” when Keanu Reeves’ Neo woke up to learn that he’d been trapped in a narcotizing dream world. It happens, once again, in “Bloodshot,” a derivative but catchy pulp action superhero head trip about a U.S. Marine, Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel), who gets killed and brought back to life in a newly enhanced and indestructible form. He goes on a vengeful murder mission, hunting down the scoundrel who killed his wife, but even this payback odyssey isn’t what it seems — it’s the creation of forces out to control him.

“Bloodshot” has barely started when Vin Diesel’s crack soldier shoots a few bad guys in Mombasa, then unzips his military gear back at the base to reveal his regulation white-tank-friendly physique. Two gun shows in less than five minutes; the action star is nothing if not economical about delivering what his audience wants.
But with this latest attempt to ignite a superhero universe, in this case adapted from a Valiant Comics series, Diesel seems to be stockpiling franchises like he’s at an all-you-can-eat buffet. He’s Riddick, he’s Xander Cage, he’s Dominic, he’s even Groot, and now he’s hoping there’s room for his one-acting-style-fits-all brute charm to squeeze in Ray Garrison, an elite combat veteran killed in action, then rebooted by Guy Pearce’s tech magnate into a programmable, indestructible warrior, the first of his kind.

“You don’t have to have a history to have a future,” Guy Pearce’s Dr. Emil Harting says to Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel), the titular hero of director David S.F. Wilson’s Bloodshot. Garrison is a soldier whose shattered body has been restored to life by Harting via microscopic robots called “nanites” that all but replaced Garrison’s blood. With enhanced strength, speed, durability and healing powers, Garrison is all but indestructible–yet his memories are the one thing he cannot seem to retrieve.
But Bloodshot does, of course, have a history as one of the flagship titles of Valiant Comics, a long independent publisher that created its own universe of heroes and villains as counter-programming for those tired of the usual DC and Marvel suspects. Yet while various incarnations of Valiant have been around for better than 30 years, its characters and their backstories have not quite entered...

A busy March box office slate continues this weekend with the release of three new films: Sony’s adaptation of the Valiant comic book series “Bloodshot,” Universal/Blumhouse’s provocative thriller “The Hunt” and Lionsgate’s faith-based “I Still Believe,” the studio’s first release under its new partnership with Jon and Andrew Erwin’s production label Kingdom Story Company.
Of those three, “I Still Believe” is the one picked by independent trackers to have the best opening weekend and one analysts tell TheWrap has an outside chance of taking the No. 1 spot from Pixar’s “Onward” if it overperforms. Estimates for the inspirational true story film are currently set around $15 million, with Lionsgate projecting a $10-12 million start. Screenings will begin early on IMAX starting Wednesday.
While it isn’t expected to be a major grosser for Lionsgate, “I Still Believe” is still an important release for the studio.

Cape Town, South Africa native David S.F. Wilson makes his feature directorial debut with Bloodshot, the new Vin Diesel action/sci-fi thriller based on the superhero character created by Valiant Comics. After launching a visual effects company in his native country with Sharlto Copley (who has gone on to success as an actor in movies like District 9 and Maleficent), Wilson was recruited by future Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller to come work at his Blur Studio effects and animation house in Venice, California.
After rising to Creative Director there, Wilson has now made the leap to the world of features with Bloodshot. Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier whose shattered body is resurrected and enhanced by “nanites,” microscopic intelligent machines invented by the head of the secretive Rising Spirit Technologies, Dr. Emil Harting (Guy Pearce). One of a number of humans shaped by Harting’s creation,...

Australian actor Guy Pearce is known for an eclectic and varied career in which he has rarely played the same kind of role twice. From his days on the iconic Australian series Neighbours (which made him a star there) to his breakout role as a steadfast detective in L.A. Confidential to more recent turns as a monstrous man of the cloth in Brimstone and a mysterious scientist in the Netflix series The Innocents, Pearce has acted his way through a diverse roster of characters over the past 30 years.
Having said that, Pearce does return, sort of, to the world of nanotechnology in Bloodshot. The film stars Vin Diesel as the Valiant Comics superhero who is brought back from the dead and whose powers are fueled by microscopic robots called “nanites” that populate his bloodstream. Pearce plays Dr. Emil Harting, the head of the ultra-high-tech laboratory that has developed the...

We’ve got a new international trailer to share with you today for Vin Diesel’s upcoming sci-fi action thriller Bloodshot. This is actually a very different trailer than the first one that was released. It has a totally different vibe and offers up even more footage from the movie.
In the film, Diesel takes on the role of a former soldier named Ray Garrison, who is given powers of regeneration, technomancy, and metamorphosis, which is made possible through nanites that are injected into his blood after he is killed. Regardless of the fact that Diesel isn’t sporting the comic accurate look of the character, the movie looks like it will deliver some fun, action-packed entertainment.
Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
After he and his wife are murdered, Marine Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is resurrected by a secret team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman,...

Vin Diesel is coming back again and again in Sony Pictures’ first trailer for “Bloodshot.” In the forthcoming superhero adventure, Diesel portrays Ray Garrison a.k.a. Bloodshot, a soldier who gets rebuilt by a corporation following his death.
The clip, released Monday and scored to Johnny Cash’s rendition of the ballad “Memories are Made of This,” sees Dr. Emil Harting (Guy Pearce) tell the reborn Bloodshot, “I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you got yourself killed.” He continues, “At Rst, we rebuild the most important assets in the U.S. Military. Soldiers, like yourself. You’re the first who we successful managed to bring back.”
Diesel’s character discovers that he has an army of nanotechnology in his veins to make him close to immortal, giving him superhuman strength and the ability to heal instantly. Rst also has control over his mind and memories.

It’s about time Vin Diesel got back in on the comic book movie game. His latest film “Bloodshot,” based on the Valiant comic book character, sees him cast as a super soldier with mutant healing abilities brought back from the dead and set on exacting revenge on the person who killed his wife.
But if it sounds like we’ve been here before, you’re right. Diesel’s character Ray Garrison has been told he’s a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life by an organization that’s managed to do so successfully for the first time. Like Wolverine, he’s got super strength and can heal instantly when injured.
The only difference is he’s been engineered and given fake memories and is now being programmed to kill any target his handlers wish, reliving his memories of revenge over and over again.

"They've been manipulating you... What you think is real, sometimes ain't." Sony Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for action sci-fi movie Bloodshot, another comic book adaptation, this one about a slain soldier (and mobster?) who is re-animated with superpowers. It's based on the comic book character known as Bloodshot, published in various Valiant Comics, the first appearance in 1992. Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero "Bloodshot" by the Rst corporation. It seems to be a twisted mix of Upgrade and RoboCop, which might actually be awesome. The cast includes Guy Pearce, Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Lamorne Morris, Talulah Riley, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, and Siddharth Dhananjay. So far, so good! Looks massively entertaining, though it seems like a story we've seen so often before. Here's the first trailer (+ international) for Dave Wilson's Bloodshot movie,...

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Vin Deisel’s feature film adaptation of the comic book Bloodshot. As you might imagine, the trailer is loaded with action, and it offers a fun little taste of what’s in store for the movie.
The movie looks like it could be cool, but Diesel isn’t really sporting the look of the character from the comics. Maybe that’s a reveal that the marketing team is holding off until later? In the film, Diesel takes on the role of a former soldier named Ray Garrison who is given powers of regeneration, technomancy, and metamorphosis, which is made possible through nanites that are injected into his blood after he is killed.
Here’s the synopsis for the movie:

The first trailer for Bloodshot sets Vin Diesel on a Memento-ish rampage.
Vin Diesel action vehicle Bloodshot has unveiled its first trailer, and what better way to start the week? Sure - another day, another comic book movie, but this one has a little Tony Scott-ness to it, so we're going to give it an easy pass.
The directorial debut of Dave Wilson, who was in charge of the visual effects on Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Bloodshot stars Diesel as resurrected supersoldier Raymond Garrison, who has the ability to both shapeshift and heal very quickly, and who becomes a pawn in a deadly game. This is supposed to be the start of a Valiant Entertainment comic book universe, but follow-up project Harbinger has since moved to Paramount, so we'll see. Bloodshot made his first comic appearance all the way back in 1992, having been created by a dreamteam of Kevin VanHook,...

Guy Pearce is in talks to join Sony’s Vin Diesel-starring superhero film, Bloodshot, in which he will replace Michael Sheen who we hear had to exit the project due to scheduling and family conflicts. Dave Wilson is at the helm of the sci-fi actioner, which is being set up as a potential franchise.
Based on the Valiant comic book, the story centers around Ray Garrison aka Bloodshot, who is brought back from the dead by Rising Spirit Technologies’ use of nanotechnology and suffers total memory loss. Ray struggles to reconnect with who he was while learning what sort of weapon he has become, with the help of a group of other augmented combatants called Chainsaw.
The Fast and the Furious producer Neal H. Moritz is producing the adaptation for Sony. Dan Mintz, who worked with Pearce on Iron Man 3 as an executive producer, is serving as Bloodshot‘s Ep.
