Update: Donald Trump will be on the California ballot for the state primary in March.
Late on Thursday, Secretary of State Shirley Weber released a list of certified candidates for the March 5 primary. Trump’s name was included on the list, released the same day that the secretary of state of another state, Shenna Bellows of Maine, said that the former president was ineligible to hold office.
Weber did not issue a statement on her decision to keep Trump on the ballot.
In the wake of a Colorado Supreme Court ruling that the former president was ineligible, California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis had called for Trump to be kept off the ballot. But Weber responded with a letter that suggested that it would be up to the courts to decide.
“Removing a candidate from the ballot under Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment is not something my office takes lightly...

The man who essentially ended the federal right to abortion thinks that he can now run for president in 2024 as a “moderate” on the issue.
In recent weeks, according to two people familiar with the matter, Donald Trump has privately remarked that several anti-abortion leaders — people who spent the past year pushing him to commit to enacting a draconian national ban — now have no “leverage” to force him to do anything.
Despite their very public pressure campaign for that abortion ban, the former president insists that they will all fall...

The 2001 series "Star Trek: Enterprise" takes place about a century before the events of the original "Star Trek," and a lot of the technologies Trekkies took for granted hadn't been invented yet. Transporters, for instance, weren't yet safe for human use. Starships didn't have shields and instead were equipped with specialized hull plating that needed to be polarized to deflect phase cannon blasts. Instead of tractor beams, the Enterprise had grappling hooks. And, because Earth hadn't yet encountered too many alien species, there wasn't yet a workable universal translator.
That's where Ensign Hoshi Sato (Linda Park) came in. Ensign Sato was a language wunderkind whose ear for language and knack for syntax proved invaluable for making first contact with alien species. She was, however, only 22 years old when she joined the crew of the Enterprise and, like the rest of the crew, had no deep space experience. Ensign Sato was...

Two people died and a Border Patrol officer was injured in the incident, according to two U.S. law enforcement officials, per the New York Times.

Rapper Azealia Banks Praises Donald Trump, Disses Ron DeSantis & Says Free Speech Is ‘For White Men’
Controversial rapper Azealia Banks made wild comments about cancel culture, Donald Trump and the rise of AI technology.
Banks said that she thinks the rapid growth in technology is making her paranoid, particularly the prevalence of AI.
Banks said the technological advancements convinced her into “absolutely needing a gun,” believing she feels “way safer” since moving to Miami from Los Angeles.
Gun rights are one reason why Banks is supporting Trump’s 2024 run. She also admires the former president’s humor and attitude.
“He’s just f— funny. He’s been through how many bankruptcies? How many wives? How many television shows? Seriously, nothing can take him down,” she told The Evening Standard.
Despite her move to Florida, she did not have kind words for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), mocking his feud with the Disney corporation.
“Seriously, that’s the guy who’s running for president? The guy who wants to argue with Mickey Mouse?...

A meeting where high-level strategists for Florida Governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis were supposed to discuss strategy against his rival Nikki Haley almost descended into a melee, according to a report from NBC News.
Sources who spoke to NBC revealed that the near-brawl, which took place last Tuesday, reflected growing tensions within the board of Desantis’ main Pac, Never Back Down. According to one source who was in the room, Jeff Roe, a consultant for Never Back Down, nearly came to blows with Desantis’ advisor and Pac board member Scott Wagner.

Patrick Dempsey finally gets to use his real accent in 'Thanksgiving'.The 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Enchanted' star plays Sheriff Eric Newlon in Eli Roth's new holiday horror as he investigates a series of gruesome murders in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and it marks the first time he's ever been able to speak in his actual voice on screen.Filmmaker Roth told MovieWeb: "Boston guys, we love the accent. And even if you don't have it, you still love it, or you grew up with it."Certain kids had it like wicked hardcore, other kids less so. And when Patrick Dempsey reached out to me about being in the film, he said, 'Should I do a New England accent?'"I was like, 'Well, one of my pet peeves, I hate movies where someone tries to do a Boston accent and fails, it ruins the movie for me.

Los Angeles, Nov 19 (Ians) Grammy-winning singer Pink said she will hand out banned books in the state’s schools when she plays in her Florida gig.
“Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child. That’s why I am unwilling to stand by and watch while books are banned by schools,” Pink said.
Florida has become the centre of the book-banning debate and Pink’s plan has been formed with the national free speech group Pen America.
They have chosen four titles to give away to fans – Toni Morrison’s ‘Beloved’, Todd Parr’s ‘The Family Book’, Stacia Deutsch’s ‘Girls who Code’, and the poem recited by Amanda Gorman at Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration in January 2021 titled ‘The Hill We Climb’, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Pen America’s database of censored tomes lodged 3,362 book bans in US public schools in the 2022 to 2023 school year.

The director and screenwriter of "Thanksgiving" — Eli Roth and Jeff Rendell, respectively — have been very vocal about the fact that Thanksgiving seems to be a holiday with vast untapped potential as fodder for horror films, slasher movies in particular. After all, Halloween and Christmas are well-trodden as body count fare and even lesser holidays like Independence Day have their memorable slashers. Poor Turkey Day has only one; though "Blood Rage" is a pretty fantastic little indie that everyone should make a part of their yearly traditions, it uses Thanksgiving as a side dish rather than the main course.
So, Roth and Rendell were determined to fill this void themselves, and 2007's "Grindhouse" project by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino gave them just the opportunity they needed. Adding a few days onto the "Hostel Part II" shoot, Roth shot a faux trailer for "Thanksgiving" in the Grindhouse manner, making it look...

With widely reported behind-the-scenes drama, it's hard to believe the Duttons will be serving up one last dose of drama in the last-ever episodes of Yellowstone.
It's a miracle these episodes are being made when considering all the reports about Costner's involvement in the series of late.
At one point, it wouldn't have surprised me if Paramount Network nixed the final episodes of Yellowstone Season 5B to focus on the spinoffs.
Details are beginning to trickle out, with the cabler reaffirming its commitment to airing the rest of the series in November 2024.
It's not good news for fans of Kevin Costner's John Dutton.
According to a surprising new report, production on the final episodes of the sprawling western will get underway in the spring.
As of this time of writing, there are no plans for Costner to appear in the last-ever episodes.

A new holiday horror classic emerges with the arrival of Eli Roth‘s Thanksgiving in theaters on November 17.
In Thanksgiving, “After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday.”
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Roth, who wrote the script with Jeff Rendell, about his gory slasher and how it’s evolved since its faux trailer origins. In part one of our chat, the horror filmmaker reflected on the origins of his slasher and his thoughts on modern horror.
Now, in part two, Roth shares the research put into the contemporary slasher and the design behind his killer, John Carver.
While Roth is a lifelong horror study, filmmaker, and fanatic, Thanksgiving alters the cold open kill that’s tradition for the slasher subgenre. When asked if he felt any pressure expanding the fake Grindhouse trailer and its memorable kills in a contemporary slasher,...

Oh, how exquisite it feels to confirm Eli Roth's Thanksgiving is stuffed with holiday horror goodness. Fans have been rabid for a feature treatment of Roth's fake-at-the-time Grindhouse trailer, now rewarded with the new gold standard for Thanksgiving horror flicks. It's a violent throwback to bloodthirsty 80s slashers that's drowning in scrumptious gore, smothering the story's anti-capitalist frustrations in deep red juices that ain't cranberry sauce. Roth oven-roasts even the tiniest Turkey Day themes and signatures to perfection, indulging in macabre festivities on par with Michael Dougherty's work on Trick' r Treat and Krampus.
Roth and screenwriter Jeff Rendell hatch a vengeful story that starts with a deadly Black Friday shift in Plymouth, Massachusetts. RightMart shoppers rush the department store like a dashing zombie horde from 28 Days Later, causing multiple casualties in a brutally staged open. A year later, high schooler Jessica (Nell Verlaque) and her friends...

I’ve heard of long-lead movie trailers, but this is ridiculous.
Yes, a mere 16 years after it was first teased as one of the fake coming attractions in 2007’s Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double-feature collaboration Grindhouse, Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving has finally hit the big screen. Featuring plenty of the gore promised in the trailer, this throwback slasher pic will gratify genre fans who will appreciate the titular holiday finally getting its own horror film along with the likes of Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc. This one is no instant classic, ranking more along the lines of April Fool’s Day than the gold standard of its ilk, Halloween. But it offers plenty of cheap thrills, or more accurately cheap kills, presented with the sort of attention to bloodthirsty detail that horror aficionados crave. Pity, though, that there aren’t really any more actual grindhouses.

When Holly Weaver began teaching in 2014, she started because she loved literature, and wanted to share that with students. But she quickly realized that her class, filled with kids from diverse communities and socioeconomic backgrounds, needed something completely different.
“I saw very quickly some inequities within school systems,” Weaver says. “I realized that my job as an English teacher was much more than teaching kids about literature. I had to learn very quickly how to pull in as many cultures as possible so that all of my students felt represented and seen.

Washington, Aug 29 (Ians) American rapper Eminem’s lawyers have sent a letter to Indian-origin tech entreprenuer Vivek Ramaswamy, who is seeking a Republican nomination for the 2024 US presidential election, asking the latter to stop rapping his songs.
The letter, date August 23 and sent by the rapper’s record company BMI, comes more than a week after Ramaswamy delivered an impromptu performance of “Lose Yourself”, one of Eminem’s most popular numbers, at the Iowa State Fair, reports the BBC.
The letter says the company “received a communication from” Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, objecting to the Republican’s use of his “musical compositions”.
“BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach” of its licence, it adds.

On Sunday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) was heckled and booed as he spoke at a vigil for the victims of the Jacksonville shooting at a Dollar General store where a 21-year-old white gunman shot and killed three black people.
DeSantis said Florida intended to allocate funds to improve security at Edward Waters University, the historically black college that the gunman went to before the shooting but left without being confronted.
DeSantis said, “We are not going to allow these institutions to be targeted by people.”
But the heckling continued, leading a councilwoman to tell the audience to put aside their political differences.
“You had a major league scumbag come from Clay County up here, and what he did, what he did is totally unacceptable in the state of Florida,” DeSantis continued.
The shooter, armed with an Ar-like rifle and a Glock handgun, was identified as Ryan Palmeter.

NewsNation has bashed CNN in a new promo, noting that the network shouldn’t call itself the “most trusted name in news” if not covering all sides of a story on-air.
“Psst…Hey, CNN,” the promo began, immediately singling out the network. “If you want to call yourself the most trusted name in news…here’s an idea. Cover the news.”
The promo showed a clip of CNN in which anchor Jake Tapper noted they would not be carrying a Trump event live due to the controversial nature of the former president.
As of late, CNN has been cautious about showing footage of Trump on-air in an effort to curb the amount of misinformation spreading through his comments.
“Some of our competitors,” said NewsNation host Leland Vittert in the promo, “including CNN, have decided not to take these remarks” live.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was booed by attendees at a Jacksonville vigil for three people shot and killed by a white supremacist gunman on Saturday.

Chris Christie was for Donald Trump before he was against him. The former New Jersey governor stood by Donald Trump through scandal and controversy, and on Sunday the Republican candidate was confronted with his support of the former president, who he now opposes.

Christian Chavez is fully embracing his queer identity onstage — and using his platform to slam Texas’ anti-lgbtq laws. On Friday, during Mexican pop group Rbd’s reunion tour opener in El Paso, Texas, Chavez — who is openly gay and from the state — slammed Gov. Greg Abbott and the recent anti-lgbtq policies he has signed into law during an emotional segment of the show.

Just two weeks ago, almost no one had ever heard of Oliver Anthony. Then, the Virginia-based country singer-songwriter, whose real name is Christopher Anthony Lunsford, went wildly viral with the instant Number One hit “Rich Men North of Richmond,” a raw, solo-acoustic, undeniably catchy track that combined righteous populist complaints about inflation and taxes with nasty swipes at welfare recipients. (He later clarified that he didn’t intend to attack the poor.)
As Rolling Stone pointed out early on, his initial rise was buoyed by heavy, curiously simultaneous support from conservative politicians and media figures.

The first-ever mugshot of an American president has been released.
Donald J. Trump’s historic booking photo has been revealed from his surrender at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on Thursday.
Trump was charged earlier this month with 13 counts of attempting to interfere with Georgia’s election process in the 2020 presidential race. It marked the fourth indictment of Trump in recent months. All told, Trump faces 91 criminal counts that could result — if convicted on all charges — of a sentence of roughly 700 years in prison.

Trump managed to avoid a booking photo in his previous indictments. Some have argued that such a photo is unnecessary, as the point of a mugshot is help identify the person being arrested and Trump is one of the world’s most famous figures. The Republicans don’t need Donald Trump to get people to pay attention to their causes.
Approximately 12.8 million viewers tuned in Wednesday night to see a telecast of the first Republican primary debate in the race for the 2024 presidential election, according to data from Nielsen, with 11.1 million viewers watching the event on Fox News Channel and another 1.7 million viewing it on sister outlet Fox Business Network. Eight candidates took part.
The attention came even though Trump, the former president who has a commanding lead in Republican polls, decided to take part in a pre-taped and meandering interview with former Fox News opinion host Tucker Carlson that was streamed on X, the social-media venue once known as Twitter.
To be sure, the TV figures represent a decline in attention from the 24 million viewers –still a record — who tuned in to Fox News in 2016 for the first Republican featuring Trump. And the...

Ron DeSantis may be leading the Republicans he shared the debate stage with on Wednesday night, but he had just as much — if not more — at stake than any of them. Once upon a time, the Florida governor had high hopes to dethrone Donald Trump atop the GOP, but his campaign has been floundering amid a series of unforced errors and questions about his ability to connect with voters. The debate was a golden opportunity to generate momentum by, at the very least, asserting himself as the alpha of the...

When debate moderator Bret Baier asked a stage of 2024 Republican presidential hopefuls to raise their hands if they would support their absent rival Donald Trump’s nomination even if he was convicted in one of the many court cases he’s currently facing, all but two of the eight candidates present raised their hands.
What followed was a bashing fest between the candidates outwardly opposed to Trump’s reelection, and those tripping over themselves to prove their loyalty to the former president — with heavy audience participation and dose of moderation chaos.

The first GOP presidential primary debate is lacking star power with Donald Trump opting to sit down for an interview with Tucker Carlson instead of joining his rivals onstage. Fox News tried to fill the void by kicking off the event with a few questions about rising country music star Oliver Anthony’s viral anthem “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

Update: Six of the eight contenders on the stage indicated that they would still support Donald Trump if he is the GOP nominee even if he is convicted.
But the cameras caught Ron DeSantis as he looked around at his rivals before raising his hand.
Moderator Bret Baier had asked if Trump “is convicted in a court of law, would you still support him as your party’s choice?”
The only two who did not were Asa Hutchinson and Chris Christie. And the latter looked as if he had raised his hand, but told Baier that he was waving a sign of disapproval.
“Here’s the bottom line: Someone has got to stop normalizing this conduct. Whether or not you believe the criminal charges are right or wrong, the conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States,” Christie said. His remarks drew some cheers and boos.

“Thank you, but I’m not in the market for a performance coach,” Wendy fires back.
“I was suggesting therapy. Isn’t that why you’re here?” Dr. Mayer asks.

Update: Donald Trump confirmed that he sat down with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for an interview that will post at the exact time as the Republican presidential debate.
Trump, who is skipping the debate, wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, “My Interview With Tucker Carlson Will Be Aired Tonight At 9:00 P.M. “Sparks Will Fly.” Enjoy!”
His absence likely will be brought up at the debate, especially since Chris Christie will be on stage. The former New Jersey governor has staked much of his campaign on criticizing Trump.
Trump’s decision to counter program with the interview with Carlson, who was dropped from the Fox News lineup in April, is an obvious dig at the network. This article contains spoilers for the first two episodes of "Ahsoka."
Dave Filoni's latest "Star Wars" show, "Ahsoka," is full of surprises. The series follows Ahsoka Tano, former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, as she tries to protect the New Republic from the potential threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn. She's also interested in using her quest as a way to find Ezra Bridger, a young Jedi who sacrificed himself to take Thrawn out of the Galactic Civil War in the first place. For fans of "Star Wars Rebels," it's expected that more and more characters who were introduced in animation would be making the jump to live-action, especially when you consider that some of the action — at least in early episodes — seems centered on Lothal, one of the central locations of "Rebels."

As TikTok continues to seek a truce with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (Cfius), the general public is getting a rare look into the negotiations. Forbes has obtained a draft of TikTok’s Cfius agreement, and if the details of that document are accurate, the pact would give the U.S. government unprecedented influence over TikTok’s data, policies, and operations.
The 100-page draft was written in the summer of 2022, which means that it predates many of the political battles that have defined TikTok’s relationship with U.S. officials in 2023. Calls for a nationwide TikTok ban and other complications may have changed the nature of the app’s Cfius negotiations, but even in the year-old document, it’s clear that Washington lawmakers want to keep TikTok on a short leash.
According to Forbes, the drafted agreement would let federal regulators examine TikTok’s American facilities, oversee the app’s U.

Donald Trump says that he won’t participate in the first Republican debate, but seven of his rivals will be on the debate stage.
