Poll: Actors Considered to Play Willy Wonka
The role of Willy Wonka in the original 1971 classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is one which solidified Gene Wilder's place in cinematic history. As difficult as it is to imagine anyone else in the part, it's also well known that Roald Dahl himself disapproved of his casting and that he was nowhere near the first choice. A host of other (mostly British) performers were considered. Who, in this alternate universe, do you think would have had the right combination of whimsy, cynicism, brilliance, madness and musical talent to pull off such a one-of-a-kind character?
