- Norman Nazaar (born Nasser) was born to Syrian immigrants in Terre Haute, IN. He was the second of three sons and also had a younger sister. His mother died when he was 15 years old leaving his father to raise four young children and operate a grocery store that he opened in 1909. Norman was always the comic in the family and decided to leave home when he was 18 years old so that he could become a performer. He was billed as a comedian and a tap dancer and worked in bars, speakeasies, and for private parties. His first wife was Flo Ash billed as the "cutest little nudist", a stripper he met while working in a strip club. The marriage didn't last long, and he married a second time to a non-performer, Violet Carter. Norman's acting career was limited to small, non-speaking parts until he was cast as The Great Barlow on an episode of Sky King. He was a gifted performer who never quite realized his potential.
