About 1960 she was the best known face and voice on television due to appearances she made with Wally Whyton alongside puppets such as Pussy Cat Willum and Ollie Beak. She had a great many fans due to her groundbreaking shows on commercial radio and she was the first announcer to launch Rediffusion Television which later became Carlton TV. She became a star maker herself due to appearances on such as Five O Clock Club and Juke Box Jury and counted many top recording artists of the 60's and 70's including Cliff Richard, Cilla Black and The Beatles as friends. After 25 years in front of the camera Muriel turned to producing and became head of children's programmes for Granada Television. She spent her retirement living in the Yorkshire Dales of Weardale, steeping herself in village life.
