- Widower Vikas lives a fairly wealthy lifestyle along with son, Raju, on an island off of Bombay's Gateway of India. Raju has not been told of his mother's demise, and believes that she will return home by the next boat. He is looked after and abused by Vikas' aunt, and manages to run away. On one occasion, in the company of Minoo, his neighbor, they manage to get on the boat, reach Bombay, and start a frantic search for his mother. With the help of the Police, Vikas was able to locate and bring them back home. When Vikas goes to work one day, villagers find an unconscious female and bring her to his house. She is looked after, and Raju believes that his mother has returned. When Vikas returns, he decides to let this female, whose name is Juhi, live with them - little knowing that she is a runaway prostitute.
- Manav Chatterjee's childhood is spent in a wealthy home where his father, Umakant, is an alcoholic, and his mother a simple housewife, who tries in vain to get his dad to give up on alcohol. This results in differences between his parents, leading to their separation, and him leaving the house to be with his mother. Manav grows up as a cynic, and this cynicism increases when he goes to live with a foster and a very wealthy family. He marries Hiralal's daughter, Sandhya, and both love each other deeply. But things do not seem to go Manav's way at all, as he is separated from Sandhya, and after several months finds out that Hirala is about to get Sandhya married - again. Now Manav has changed his name, and is being helped by an unknowing Umakant to try and salvage, what possibly remains, of the rest of this bitter and lonely life.
- Grandpa and Grandma Kapoor live a wealthy life-style with their only widower son, Kailashnath and his daughter Ashi who is of marriage-able age. Her first acquittance whose name turn out to be Bobby Oberoi continues to pursue her until both fall in love. Back in India; Bobby is introduce to the Kapoor family who approve of the couple's marriage. But calamity destructs them when some personal problems crop up between Ashi's dad, Kailashnath and Bobby's bank manager mother, Gayetri forcing Kailashnath to cancel the marriage which changes lives forever.
- Stuck with getting affidavits stamped and signed, alcoholic Advocate Mohan Agashe accepts a case of medical malpractice against two gynecologists affiliated with Sanjivani Hospital whose alleged negligence put a young widow and mother of one child, Aarti Mehta, in a state of acute coma. The hospital is willing to make a settlement, but Mohan refuses and decides to try his luck in court.
