Instead, after years of terrible, bloody battles the few remaining, traumatized warriors, including their leader, ERIC, now journey home on a small vessel across the treacherous Mediterranean, anxious to reunite with their loved ones. Plagued by horrors from the battlefield and longing for his former life, Eric tries to remain stoic but is terrified of what he might find upon his return, fearing that his home has been burned to the ground, and Astrid, the young bride he left behind, may have been terrorized. On the journey home, Eric has PTSD flashbacks to the horrific experiences he has endured, interspersed with memories of his pre-war life where he is dancing with his wife at a gala - a memory that gives him hope and propels him to continue. Following a shift in the musical score, the warriors emerge from a dark, misty river, and come upon their village, relieved and grateful it is still standing. Upon approaching the shore, the warriors' loved ones are elated to welcome home those who have returned, yet distraught to discover the loss of those who did not. Meanwhile, Eric desperately searches for his bride among the villagers. Finally, after a false sighting, he is stunned not only to find Astrid, but a pair of beautiful twins, children he didn't even know he had. It appears to be an emotional homecoming and a glorious return.
