The original title misspelled its subject's name as "Edgar Allen Poe."
Though named after him and purporting to show how he wrote and published "The Raven," "Edgar Allan Poe" is otherwise completely fictional. His wife, Virginia Clemm, died years after Poe published "The Raven," while this film shows it happening mere hours after. Likewise, the circumstances by which Poe was inspired to write and then wrote his poem are invented for the film.
The earliest known screen portrayal of iconic American gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe.
