Harold Lockwood (as Harry Burns) is a college baseball star who must give up the game when his uncle and sponsor meets with financial difficulties. Mr. Lockwood ventures out into the Wild, Wild West of Arizona, and gets a job as a payroll carrier. When he discovers bandits inhabit the west, he finds a good pitch can come in handy! he also discovers love, and must choose between the girl and a big career offer... "The Ball Player and the Bandit" is mainly interesting as Harold Lockwood appears, and not many of his films are available. Lockwood is most notable opposite Mary Pickford her 1914 "Tess of the Storm Country". A major star, Lockwood died during the influenza epidemic of 1918.
