This lost silent film was based on a play, and co-stars Mary Pickford's first husband Owen Moore. Caprice told the story of a wealthy but frustrated young man Jack Henderson, ( Owen Moore ) and while on a hunting trip, accidentally shoots Mercy Baxter, ( Mary Pickford ) a mountain girl. He soon falls in love with the uncultured girl and is convinced he can transform her into a graceful and refined wife. Against his father's objections, Jack marries Mercy, and her attempts to educate herself are a complete failure. Mercy turns out be an embarrassment, and after admitting his mistake to his father, Jack sends her back to her mountain home. Mercy decides to attend a boarding school under the name of Miss Wheeler, where she becomes a good friend of Jack's sister Edith. She accepts Edith's invitation to visit her family and impresses them all with her newly acquired poise and elegance. Jack once again falls in love and is overjoyed when he realizes "Miss Wheeler" is actually Mercy, his own wife and together their happiness is now complete. This film was received royally when first shown and regarding Mary's performance one review wrote, " Miss Pickford, like all other really fine artistes, is quite inimitable, there is no one who can even approach her, she stands alone ". This was only Mary Pickford's second feature with Famous Players, having signed with them at $500 a week; they now realized that she was undeniably worth it. This is another sad loss for fans of early silent film cinema.
