The Abandonment (1916) - Lost Silent Drama
PamelaShort19 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Edmund B. Stewart ( E. Forrest Taylor ) an ambitious physician moves to the country and becomes a hobo after his society fiancée, Emily Thurston ( Helene Rosson ), is bored from his neglect and marries stockbroker Benson Heath ( Harry Von Meter ). Six months later, when Emily's father dies leaving her no money, Heath moves West to avoid bad debts. He and Emily settle in an isolated house, which is ransacked one night by two of Stewart's hobo friends. When Heath comes home, he drunkenly strangles Emily, but one of the hobos, who had been hiding in a closet, intervenes and kills Heath. When Stewart hears about the death, he rushes to the house and confesses to the crime himself, thinking that the unconscious Emily is the murderer. Emily revives and tells the sheriff the truth, freeing Stewart and the hobos from any crime. Emily then declares her love for Stewart.

This interesting 1916 drama was produced by the American Film Manufacturing Company and is sadly now a lost silent film.
