Mary Lane ( Mary Miles Minter ) and her cousin Claiborne ( Frank De Vernon ) announce they are selling the family property left to them. One honest real estate fellow, Roland Manning ( Thomas Carrigan ) falls in love with Mary, while he prepares a sale that will benefit both himself and Mary. Meanwhile, corrupt Wade Dempster plans to steal the property from Claiborne by getting him drunk. To pave the way for his plan, Wade has Roland arrested for a murder that Wade himself committed. It doesn't take long before Roland is found guilty and receives a life prison sentence. However, Mary's former sweetheart Oscar witnessed the murder and finally admits Wade shot the man and Roland is set free . Mary and Roland then become happily married, keeping the land for their own family.
