June Griest, wild as the birds to whom she calls, thinks school is something to abominate. When Frank Trent comes to the wilderness to teach, she is one of his first challenges. June sees him coming up the road, and contrives to introduce herself by dropping from a tree branch onto his shoulders. Frank falls in love with the little sprite, but for all her liking for the newcomer, June won't promise to attend school the next day until she learns that Frank is the schoolmaster. Bob Gale, Frank's mountain rival for June's hand, has his innings when Trent's sister and niece arrive in the village to visit him. Gale takes advantage of this opportunity to warn June that her sweetheart is married and that his wife and daughter have come to town. At first June indignantly refuses to believe this, but her faith is shaken when Frank brings his kin to see "the best little girl in the world." June, tearful and distrusting, angrily orders him from the house. Frank and his sister leave, but the child remains to play with some puppies in the room. June approaches to pet her. The child is frightened by the weeping stranger and cries out "Uncle Frank. Uncle Frank!" June sees the truth and they all lived happily ever after.
