PamelaShort23 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After marrying Lynch ( Jack W. Johnston ) a villainous man who took their daughter Felice ( Maxine Elliott Hicks ) after deserting Maris ( Ethel Barrymore ), she now marries mill owner Dwight Alden after receiving information that her husband and child are dead. Maris discovers Dwight employs child labour and with the help of the village minister, tries to persuade him that this is wrong, but he will tolerate no interference in his business. Maris soon becomes interested in a child who has been injured while working overtime at the mill, only to discover that the child is her daughter and her first husband is still alive. She leaves, taking Felice, and Dwight, after having a fight with Lynch, discovers that Lynch had secured a divorce from Maris. Dwight finds Maris and tells her that he has abolished child labour and made other improvements affecting the welfare of his workers, and the two happily reconcile.

This 1917 drama was taken from the novel Red Horse Hill, by Sidney McCall. Produced by Metro Pictures Corporation and starring brilliant actress Ethel Barrymore, it sadly now remains a lost silent film.
