- Donald Custer loses in a poker game to 'Ace High' having forged his father's name to a check. Knowing the game was crooked, Buck returns to retrieve the check only to find Donald already there and Carlotta dead. - Much to the dismay of his rancher rather,Donald Custer has a bad gambling habit. Buck Marsden sees Donald being cheated in a poker game by Dick "Ace High" Willis, the owner of a speakeasy that has a soda-pop fountain in the front room. Buck, who is in love with Donald's sister, Edith, breaks up the game but Donald has already given Willis a check forged with his father's signature, although there is not enough money to cover the check. Donald goes to the Willis joint to retrieve and is followed by Buck. The latter finds Donald in front of an open safe and a dead dance-hall girl, Carlotta, on the floor. Willis enters and Buck fights him while Donald escapes. Buck also escapes but returns to the saloon to unravel the truth about who killed Carlotta. He finds the bartender in a fight with "Broom," a Willis henchman, and learns that both "Broom" and Willis are escaped convicts.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
