A shorter sound version was produced in 1934 under the direction of actor Carl Walther Meyer, in which none of the original players were involved. Joseph Karma was in charge of the post-synchronization and the main roles were dubbed by Erich Haussmann (Jean-Antoine Carrel), Edith Robbers (Felicitas Carrel), Helene Robert (Carrels Mutter) and Hermann Meyer-Falkow (Edward Whymper). The premiere took place at the UFA-Palast am Zoo in Berlin, the 13th of July 1934.
