Don't miss Jacqueline Logan!

Very capably directed by Duke Worne, this fast-moving, expansively produced "B" is available complete on a very watchable Grapevine DVD. By "B" standards, production values are remarkably good. The movie also offers an outstanding cast led by the super-lovely Ziegfeld Follies' girl, Jacqueline Logan, and finished off by none other than J.P. McGowan, pulling out all stops here as a particularly sleazy villain. Also in the cast, you can catch none other than Sojin as a greasily suave dictator, plus Andy Clyde who balances drama and comedy far more adroitly here than his usual level of feigned incompetence. Author Frederick Nebel also wrote the novel that became Sleepers East (1934) and was later turned into the very best of the Mike Shayne mystery series, Sleepers West (1941). For once, here's a movie with an excellent pedigree that not only actually lives up to its promise, but does more.
