  Claude : I know. Shouldn't have done this. I broke my promise and drank too much. I'm alright now though.

  Diana : Special means bad, doesn't it?

  Claude : Maybe. Can't tell yet.

• Claude : I'm not holding together, Ann. I'm all mixed up.

  Claude : I'm afraid, Ann.

  Diana : Afraid of what?

  Claude : Going out in the boat. I think about coming back to you. Just the way I did coming from school. You were always there waiting. But this is different. I don't know. You've gone away somewhere. You're not here and there's nothing to come back to.

• McGinnis : [when getting ready to take Claude, who's never been in a plane before, flying, and a soldier has just asked if Claude wants coffee]  No, he doesn't. Get something else instead of that. Coffee makes such a confounded stain on the wings.

  Claude : On the wings?

  [puzzled] 

  Claude : Why coffee on the wings?

  McGinnis : Well, you see-...

  Bogard : [interrupts]  Stow it, Mac. Come on.

  McGinnis : [to the bartender]  Gimme a bottle, Dave.

  [bartender give Mac a bottle and they head out] 

• McGinnis : [while getting Claude up on the plane, and telling him to sit up front]  Now listen- - if you feel yourself getting sick, take a pull at this.

  [pulls out bottle of liquor] 

  Claude : Shall I get sick?

  McGinnis : *Sure.* We all do. Part of flying.

  [points to bottle] 

  McGinnis : This'll stop it. But if it doesn't-...

  Claude : What?

  McGinnis : *Don't* spew it overside.

  Claude : Not overside?

  McGinnis : *No.* Blow back in Bogey's and my faces. We can't see- - Bingo! We're finished, see?

  Claude : Oh, fine. But... what *shall* I do with it?

  McGinnis : Just, just duck your head and let 'er go.

  Claude : I say, that'll be in my lap.

  McGinnis : Quite. See?

  Claude : [nods and grins]  Quite.
