The anonymous novel on which the movie is based was written by Rex Stout. This was not known at the time. There is a little inside joke when the president's wife urges him to drink a glass of stout.
One of over 700 Paramount Productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since. However, because of legal complications, this particular title was not included in the original television package and may not have ever been televised.
The on screen end credits identify Martha Mayo as Mrs. Delling, but the review in Weekly Variety, 11 December 1934, lists Clara Blandick. In the print viewed, Mrs. Delling, the wife of the delicatessen owner, is mentioned by name, but never seen, so the answer as to which actress plays the role remains a mystery.
