Sex & Nudity

  • The Ringmaster takes his clothes off behind the circus tent, though it is silhouetted.

Violence & Gore

  • When Dumbo's mother gets angry over some young men bullying him, she goes on a stampede and is restrained by circus actors and put in solitary confinement.
  • Dumbo is ridiculed by a group of boys, causing his mother to spank one of them. She goes mad, and throws bales of hay at other people. Dumbo is later separated from her.
  • The Pyramid of Pachyderms collapses, causing the elephants to destroy the circus tent. Later, they are shown injured and bruised.

Profanity

  • None. Some racial stereotyping especially with a song about African American circus workers which has attracted criticism.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Dumbo gets drunk and hallucinates pink elephants, reminiscent of an acid trip, even though it's only champagne.
  • Jim Crow, one of the crows, smokes a cigar.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The psychedelic pink elephants may seem quite disturbing and intense.
  • There is a scene implying a group of black elephants are slaves.
  • Some outdated racial stereotypes such as a crow named "Jim Crow" who is a caricature of African American stereotypes of the time this film was made. As of 2019 on Disney+ streaming service there is a disclaimer before the film denouncing this stating it was common at the time the film was made in the 1940s.
  • Animal cruelty and the objectification of animals for entertainment is a recurring theme throughout the film, and can be emotionally distressing.
  • Dumbo is repeatedly teased and treated with scorn by other characters for his appearance. Allies help him to understand his own self worth, but the journey to this conclusion can be upsetting for sensitive viewers, and might benefit from adult supervision to help in the processing of these themes.
  • Moderate for neurodivergent viewers.
  • The scene in which dumbo gets drunk and sees pink elephants can be freaky for some people.
  • The infamous pink elephant scene.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The song "baby mine" can be tear jerking when Dumbo reunites with his mom.
  • The film can be emotionally intense at times, such as when Dumbo's mom is taken away from him, they are both clearly upset and want to remain together, but can't. You should not tease someone for any reason, because anyone can reach their goal if they try.
