Martha Mason: Do you realize his family came over on the Mayflower?
Dr. Edgar Mason: His family? I bet ten to one he made the trip himself.
Martha Mason: There's nothing to argue about. All that matters is, Chris loves him.
Dr. Edgar Mason: Oh, Martha, that's ridiculous. They're about as romantic-looking as a couple of oysters on the half-shell. You know why Chris is impressed--because Freddie Browning can supply all the fancy doodads you've made her believe very important.
Martha Mason: [scoffs] I didn't expect you to understand the importance of breeding, Edgar.
Dr. Edgar Mason: You mean money, don't you? I suppose hitting the jackpot means marrying her off to that jerk.
Martha Mason: Jerk? What's that?
