This was not Ian Keith's first brush with the "living dead" during his acting career. He was being considered for the title role in "Dracula" (1931) before Universal finally cast the actor who was portraying the character on stage, Bela Lugosi.
This was produced, along with "Catman of Paris" (1946), in order to create Republic's first pre-packaged horror double feature.
