What are your three top noirs you'd love to see discussed this month? I mean besides the obvious choices like Gilda (a personal fav) and films we've discussed in the past few years already like Double Indemnity, Blood Simple, The Bigamist, and Woman in the Window.
Easy Access Fyi:
• Netflix has a paltry selection of Noir but they are offering Dressed to Kill, Don't Bother to Knock, Laura, and House on Telegraph Hill
• Amazon Prime is streaming The Killer is Loose, The Man in the Attic, The Hitchhiker, Shoot to Kill, Scarlett Street, Dark Passage, Strange Woman, Fear in the Night, The Stranger, Port of New York, Strange Illusion, Whistle Stop and Woman on the Run
• The new FilmStruck service has several foreign titles mostly from Japan and France...

Carrie Underwood is set to honour soldiers and their families throughout her upcoming North American tour.
The Before He Cheats star kicks off her 42-city Storyteller Tour on Saturday (January 16), and for 10 of those stops, she will be meeting with military families to thank them for their service.
For the initiative, Underwood joined forces with Carnival Cruise Line and Operation Homefront, a nonprofit organisation which provides emergency and financial assistance to families of service members and wounded warriors.
"I'm honoured to be able to join Carnival Cruise Line and Operation Homefront to lift up these soldiers and their families," Underwood said at a press conference on Thursday (28Jan16). "I am really looking forward to meeting them on my tour and for the opportunity to personally thank them for all they do for our freedom.
"I feel country music has always been very close and very supportive of military members and their families.

Port of New York
Written by Eugene Ling
Directed by Lazlo Benedek
U.S.A., 1949
Ports, much like airports and border crosses, are the among the most important gates through which returning citizens, visitors and imported goods much pass in order to step onto a territory’s soil. The level of security associated with such to and fro activity is unfathomable, ranging from the verification of travellers identification pieces to the inspection of whatever goods said arrivals want to bring with them into the new country or state. Just ask New York customs agent Jim Flannery (Richard Rober), tasked with investigating the sudden disappearance of drugs originally intended for medicinal use. Enter narcotics officer Michael Waters (Scott Brady) who, together with Jim Flannery, is on the prowl for the stolen goods. A suspect presumed to be involved with the clandestine operation, Toni Cardell (K.T. Stevens) is pressured into confessing critical information,...

"Crime expands to fill the space available" should be a well-known epithet: Evidence it's true is revealed in news that social networking phenomena Facebook and Twitter were used in a classic stock fraud trick.
The two-year investigation of a cocaine-trafficking crime involving $34 million worth of the drug being smuggled through the Port of New York also uncovered something unexpected--a $7 million pump-and-dump stock fraud.
The trick this time, according to the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's office, is that instead of word-of-mouth "pumping" statements, cold calls or subtle manipulation of traditional media, the Web--and social media sites in particular--were used to spread misleading statements and "defraud the investing public." The 11 fraudsters used more than 15 different websites and managed to accrue over $3 million in profit while fleecing the public for $7 million. Facebook pages and misleading Twitter statuses played a key role.
This new type of "wire fraud" is inevitable, and Facebook and Twitter...
