Photographer : [as Curtayne enters the court] James P. Curtayne, complete with carnation.
James Curtayne : [confidently] Never enter the ring without it.
-
Postal Clerk : Oh, you're an attorney?
James Curtayne : Yeah.
Postal Clerk : Then you should know about a court order.

James Curtayne : I think maybe one drink...
Ginny Curtayne : You can't take one drink!
James Curtayne : Yes, I can take one drink. I'm going to take one.
Ginny Curtayne : Dad, I'm not frightened. We've beaten this before. I'll get dressed...
James Curtayne : [pouring himself a drink] Go and get yourself a husband like any normal girl should do! Stop mothering me! Stop this protective custody!
Ginny Curtayne : All right, drink that drink. Drink the whole bottle. And go out and get another bottle and drink that, too. Drink forty bottles. And I won't bother you. I'll leave you alone. You can fall up the stairs all by yourself. You can learn to put yourself to bed, because I won't be here. I'll be in my own home, with my husband, the one who's been waiting for me for two years! I won't have to be your keeper! My father's keeper! The nagging daughter of an incurable alcoholic!
James Curtayne : [slapping her across the face] Ginny, stop!

James Curtayne : [going up to the bartender] Gimme a short beer, Augie.
Augie : [surprised, since Curtayne is supposed to be on the wagon] You're kidding, Mr. Curtayne?
James Curtayne : [sharply, a bit impatient] Gimme a short beer.

James Curtayne : [visiting him in jail] Now, Johnny, tell me this. When they tried to pick you up, why did you run?
Johnny O'Hara : I didn't know it was the cops. I thought it was... I was scared.
James Curtayne : You thought what?
Johnny O'Hara : I was scared. I... I saw guns. That's from the war. That's how guns hit me.
James Curtayne : Oh? They didn't seem to hit you that way when you won the DSC...
Johnny O'Hara : Put me down I was scared.
James Curtayne : What's your girl's name, Johnny?
Johnny O'Hara : Girl's name? What would you want that for?
James Curtayne : What's her name!
Johnny O'Hara : I got no girl, Mr. Curtayne.
James Curtayne : [standing up, looking at Johnny sternly] All right, Johnny. Now, of course you know this is just the start. I'll be in to see you again tomorrow.
James Curtayne : There's something I want you to remember: get this into your noggin and keep it there. You're not in here because you stole some apples off a peddler's cart.
