Keeping one of its most lucrative directors in-house, Fox has set X-Men: Days of Future Past helmer Bryan Singer to tackle an adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein’s sci-fi classic The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, to be titled Uprising.
Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim has come aboard to adapt the book, which centers on a lunar colony’s revolt against rulers stationed back on Earth, echoing the historical conflict between the United States and the British Empire. It was nominated for the 1966 Nebula Award, honoring the best American writing in fantasy and science fiction, and won the Hugo Award for best science fiction novel in 1967.
Two previous attempts to adapt Heinlein’s novel – one at DreamWorks with a script by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, and another by Phoenix Pictures involving Harry Potter producer David Heyman – failed, with the rights reverting to the author’s estate.

Last week, CBS premiered the new political drama Madam Secretary, which stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth Faulkner McCord, the U.S. Secretary of State. It's hardly a far-fetched concept, as we've seen three female secretaries of state since 1997: Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton. But it's nonetheless rare to see a fictional universe with a woman in one of the nation's top three positions of political power. (Yep, even in fake realities, politics is a man's game.) And historically speaking, Hollywood has played it as a joke more often than not. So which fictional female presidents, vice presidents...

I really enjoy watching 1950s sci-fi and horror films. When I was growing up I went through a phase where I watched every movie from that era that I could get my hands on. There are a ton of classic movies from that time such as War of the Worlds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Them!, and more. There are still so many other sci-fi movies out there that have been made that I know a lot of people haven't seen or even heard of. To remedy that I came up with a list of ten flicks that I've seen over the years that a lot of you probably haven't heard of. These are all films worth watching if you can find the time. They are best viewed with groups of fiends because even though they are good, they still have plenty of laughable moments.

The L.A.-based production company Authentic Entertainment is behind a slew of reality titles, including TLC's infamous "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," Food Network's "Ace of Cakes" and Esquire's cubicle jockey fight show "White Collar Brawlers." Loheed and Jeanne Begley are trying to raise $350,000 in order to make a pilot. They're hoping to sell the show to a network like Netflix, AMC, FX, Amazon, Hulu, Comedy Central or Adult Swim. The synopsis: In the year 2043 the space administration is grappling with budget cuts so they turn to Hollywood to find a way to keep their flagship project Moonbase Genesis going. In exchange for money to keep their base operational, the astronauts let a cast of reality TV rejects...

“Uh-oh. Seven years bad acting.”
It always feels like Christmas (no puns about Santa Claus films) when a new Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD set comes out. For all us fans out there, we wait with bated breath for every release, each time getting four new DVDs, usually with two Joel and two Mike episodes. This time around it’s four episodes from the Comedy Central era, all featuring the show’s creator and original host, Joel Hodgson. In the past I would have been a bit disappointed by this news, considering I grew up watching Mike Nelson’s run but now that I’ve watched the complete run of the show, I’ve grown to appreciate and even love Joel’s dry wit. And these four episodes give a great selection to people who might not be too familiar with the inhabitants from the Satellite of Love.

Encino - One of the joys of life is not in the getting, but the ability to give. For the longest time I thought that sentiment was bullshit. It sounded more like the excuse of plague carrier. How can giving a trophy be better than receiving it? I found myself overblissed while handing hardware to a certain star.
In case you tuned in late to the Icon Celebration special on the Dumont network, that was me on the podium announcing that 2011’s Spirit of Bob Crane Award winner was Charlie Sheen. Tears of joy were shed on the trophy that’s a bronzed Sony Portable camera from ‘77. Who knew Charlie was capable of emotion - especially anyone who bought the DVD of Navy Seals.
Charlie continues the legacy of the late great of Bob Crane. Both starred in completely absurd sitcoms. Crane played Col. Hogan on Hogan’s Heroes. We...

I miss Joel and the bots so bad sometimes it hurts. (Sorry, Mike Nelson: I don’t really miss you quite that much.) And the world needs them now more than ever. Watching old DVDs does offer some compensation, however... Sit back, when you’re not doubled over with laughter, that is for four classic episodes of this hilarious Peabody Award winning series. Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo and your host Joel Robinson (Joel Hodgson) are back to riff on your . . . erm . . . favorite movies and television series of yesteryear with all the Tlc only the Satellite of Love crew can deliver. And for this XXth volume of the outstanding, groundbreaking series, we’re making it a very special Mystery Science Theater 3000 Joel-bilee! And you’re on the guest list! Titles included in this set: Project Moonbase, Master Ninja I, Master Ninja II & The Magic Voyage Of Sinbad. Ack!

"Abducted" (2011)

Originally called "Match.Dead," this 2009 thriller details the perils of online dating when a teen girl (Kathleen Benner) arranges a date with a man she soon learns is a psychopath (James Ray). Alan Smithee is the credited screenwriter on IMDb, so one might not want to go in with high expectations.
