Both teams, the Goons, (from Greenville) and Shnooks (from Sweetwater), Greenville and Sweetwater are two cities, in Texas.
The façade around the top of the baseball stadium (seen during the shots of the play-by-play announcer) strongly resembles the iconic façade around Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.
This cartoon follows a similar storyline as Baseball Bugs (1946), both about mismatched baseball teams and the unlikely hero who single-handedly wins the game for the underdogs. Many of the baseball gags are different, but this cartoon does recycle the gag of Bugs Bunny's befuddling "slow pitch", which strikes out three batters at once ("One, two, three strikes you're out! One, two, three strikes you're out! One, two, three strikes you're out!").
