Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • There is a brief scene when Sergeant Peterson and Trooper Blackburn find the body of "Gramps" laying in a cellar like area under the floor. There is blood visible on his head, and from mouth. This person was obviously dead.
  • A dead man covered in blood is discovered in a basement. The scene is very dramatically lit and suspenseful, and is likely to frighten young children.
  • You see a couple of people get pick up by "THEM" and shaken and stabbed by sharp pinchers.
  • The men have flame guns and B-B-Q a lot of "THEM"
  • you see one of "THEM" With a rib cage in its mouth.

Profanity

  • 2 uses of hell (1 as in the location), and one use of damn.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There is smoking and they interview 2 drunks that are not drinking at that moment

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The central premise of the first part of the movie is that a young girl's parents have been dragged away and presumably killed by a mysterious, unseen, and powerful monster. It is strongly implied that this happened while she was watching, with her law-enforcement officer father shooting the monster to no effect. She is shown as being severely traumatized. This may seriously unnerve young children who are old enough to follow the basic plot.
  • There are numerous scenes of soldiers and police firing guns at the monsters in an uncertain effort to drive them away.
  • A character uses a flamethrower to drive off giant ants in an effort to save 2 children.
  • There is a fairly long sequence taking place underground involving the army trying to eliminate the ant nest. There is lots of loud gunfire, and at one point a character is trapped by a cave-in and desperately fires upon ants that swarm in on him. The other soldiers soon join him, however, and drive them off.
  • A character investigates a trashed General Store at night by himself. He then hears a strange noise, which is quite eerie and is heard a lot throughout the movie. He proceeds to go outside, where you then hear him firing a gun and screaming.
  • Scary sounds in the wind are heard throughout the first half of the movie, may frighten smaller children
