Pepe chases after and catches Penelope on the beach. Penelope then flees and Pepe gives chase across the sandy beach. Penelope reverses course and runs back the way she has just come. Pepe tries to reverse course too, but cannot stop in time to avoid sliding off of a cliff. He plummets a great distance and splashes into the sea. But when Pepe chased after Penelope along the beach, they NEVER ran up. The chase was across a level beach. Yet suddenly Pepe falls off of a very high cliff. So somehow the sea level dropped along this beach to expose a very high cliff.
Pepe is chasing Penelope across a sandy beach. When she realizes this, she reverses course and runs back the way she had just come. Pepe tries to reverse course too, but cannot slow down quick enough to avoid sliding off of a cliff. The viewer then sees Pepe plummeting toward the sea and stating that he is "Falling for her." Pepe continues to fall and then splashes into the water. But the next thing the viewer sees is Penelope scampering out of the water and along the rocks at the base of the cliff. Yet, Penelope did NOT fall off the cliff. Penelope was successful in reversing her course and remained up above the cliff. So if Penelope NEVER fell off the cliff, she could not have fallen into the water before Pepe.
Pepe is a French skunk, but when he emerges from the hold of L'Ardent Octopus, he is singing "Alouette", which is a traditional French Canadian song.
