One episode of the series, known only as "#85", is now considered lost. The episode, filmed on November 15, 1963, guest starred comedian and impressionist Vaughn Meader. Meader had skyrocketed to fame impersonating then-President John F. Kennedy. Approximately one week later, President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas effectively ending Meader's career. According to a report in The New York Times (December 1, 1963), the episode was set to air in February 1964 but NBC decided to "scrap" the episode believing it was disrespectful to the slain president. The same report claimed the tape on which Meader's episode was recorded was "erased".
While most of the first-season episodes were filmed in black and white, at least two were filmed in color. "Double Trouble", in which Bishop plays himself and Joey Barnes, was filmed in color. "A Windfall for Mom" and "Five Brides for Joey" were also filmed in color.
During the first season, the theme song was "Sometimes I'm Happy" by Irving Caesar and Vincent Youmans. For the remainder of the series, the theme song was "Joey" by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen.
Seasons Two and Three were filmed in color. Season Four saw the series move from NBC to CBS and revert to black-and-white.
The series was a bit prophetical, as Joey Bishop would later have a talk show on ABC, The Joey Bishop Show (1967). Joey's talk show provided the first regular national TV exposure for Regis Philbin.
