Cher isn't always proud of her incredible career.
The 70-year-old legend sat down with Billboard magazine for a revealing interview, in which she talks about some of her greatest hits. It turns out Cher herself doesn't love a lot of her music.
"I'm not a Cher fan," Cher says bluntly, revealing that she felt ashamed of her pop songs in the '70s -- like "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves," "Half-Breed" and "Dark Lady" -- and instead wanted to sound more like Joni Mitchell or the Eagles. “I just don’t think my aesthetic taste lies in her direction."

Shah Rukh Khan, who graced the ramp for Mijwan Society recently, thinks that women are not really ‘empowered’. Here’s why! How sweet is this powerful message by Shah Rukh? The actor, who walked the ramp with his Rehnuma co-star Anushka Sharma, recently talked about the empowerment of women. Speaking at the charity fashion event, Srk said: "We keep talking about empowering the ladies, which is a misnomer according to me. It's like saying 'save the planet.' You don't save the planet, the planet saves you, it is looking after you. Similarly when we say, 'empower women', there is nothing like empowering them. They are more powerful than us. All we need to do is, genuinely give all the ladies an even playing field. That's all they are asking for.” Shah Rukh Khan feels it’s a man’s world Shah Rukh Khan, felt that Mijwan, which is an...

It's a man's world in Asura: The City of Madness, and a rotten one at that. Cops, prosecutors and politicians jostle about with unbridled machismo in a noirish caricature of corruption in the latest thriller to balk at the irresponsible behaviour of Korea's power brokers, following Veteran, Inside Men and A Violent Prosecutor. Detective Do-kyung is a week away from quitting the force to work fulltime for the unscrupulous Mayor Park, whose dirty work he already handles on the side. But a sick wife and a sudden internal affairs investigation give prosecutors enough leverage to pit Do-kyung against his crooked employer. Meanwhile, his ambitious younger partner also moves into Park's camp. Opening with Do-kyung's grisled and downbeat voiceover sounding out over a sky-view of a...

When Jennifer Lopez's marriage to Marc Anthony fell apart, the star worked hard to stay positive. "With personal failures, I have thought, 'This is too hard,'" the Shades of Blue star tells W Magazine in their May cover story. "When my marriage ended, it was not easy to find forgiveness. It wasn't the dream that I had hoped for, and it would have been easier to fan the flames of resentment, disappointment and anger." The parameters, mutually agreed upon by my editor Danny Kasman and myself, are these: A bi-weekly (every two weeks) column, entitled "On Mubi / Off," covering two films—one currently available on the Mubi streaming platform in the United States, the other screening offsite (in theaters, on VOD, Blu-ray/DVD, etc). The movies may share some similarities in approach, execution and theme, or they may not. Mostly, my own interests and curiosity will dictate what films are covered and in what way, and I hope you'll find the prose, the pairings, and/or the analysis compelling enough to follow along. On MUBITerminal Island (Stephanie Rothman, 1973)Sight unseen, I thought Stephanie Rothman's 1973 exploitation cheapie Terminal Island would make for a good inaugural article lead-off—something Z-grade disreputable to complement the A-level sleaze (not necessarily a criticism) of the other movie covered in this column. (We'll get to you momentarily, Mr. Bond.

The Six Chair Challenge continued tonight with Nick Grimshaw's Boys taking the stage, and it's fair to say it was something of a mixed bag. From on-stage meltdowns to serious nerves, it wasn't an easy ride. So if you can bear to relive it again, here's your video round-up, with the performances ranked from worst to best:
15. Mason Noise
Presumably the 'noise' he is referring to is a sad trombone.
14. Tom Davies
Worth it for Simon's cringe face.
13. Jordan Luke Gage
Jordan sang 'No More I Love Yous', accurately predicting the judges' comments.
12. Danny Sharples
His amazing name could only take him so far.
11. Brodie Kelly
At least Simon said he'd take a chance on him.
10. Jamie Eldridge
... We think. We only saw about ten seconds of his performance.
9. Ollie Marland
Fine.
8. Nathanael Landskroner
So nervous he "couldn't even hold the mic". (But we still like him.)

We're back at Wembley this week as the Six Chair Challenge continues with the boys and the groups. If there's anything like the baying audience mobs of last week, it's going to be brutal.
Join us from 7pm as we bring all the action as it happens, including Simon calling a contestant a complete arsehole and the judges inventing a new cringeworthy slam-dunk hand gesture. Incredible.
20:59And that's it for this week! Thanks again for joining us, as always it's been loads of fun and now we have a new 4th Power performance to YouTube on repeat. It feels like the Six Chair Challenge started in roughly 2005, but next week it finally concludes with us seeing the conclusion of the Groups category and the Overs. And we know what that means - Bupsi. We can't wait. Join us on Sunday 18th October at 7pm for yet more X Factor fun!

Director: Tate Taylor; Screenwriters: Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth; Starring: Chadwick Boseman, Nelsan Ellis, Dan Aykroyd, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Jill Scott; Running time: 139 mins; Certificate: 12A
Chadwick Boseman is absolutely electric as the centrepiece of Tate Taylor's James Brown biopic, a film that seems to tell you everything and nothing about the man responsible for funk hits 'I Feel Good', 'It's a Man's World' and countless others.
Get on Up unfolds like a whistle-stop tour of the Godfather of Soul's Wikipedia page, the life of a volatile musician playing on shuffle. Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth's script jumps through the years seemingly at random, showing us fragments of its subject – from being raised in the woods of South Carolina by an abusive father to joining The Famous Flames, solo superstardom and beyond.
The storytelling style is somewhat reminiscent of Bs Johnson's "book in a box" The Unfortunates,...

New Orleans (AP) — Christina Aguilera gave her fans a little bit of jazz, a little bit of blues, and a lot of soul during her debut performance Friday at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The very pregnant performer shimmied and danced her way through a litany of hits including "Lady Marmalade," the Labelle song she helped remake into a hit years ago; "Dirrty," ''Candyman," ''Ain't No Other Man," ''Beautiful," ''What a Girl Wants," and her final song of the night, "Fighter." Morgan Griffith of Dallas said she came to Jazz Fest so she could hear Aguilera's voice live. "I've seen her at the Super Bowl and in her movies, like 'Burlesque,' and she's just an amazing performer. "She doesn't just sing. It's everything on cue: the dancers, the setup ... just everything." "She has such a strong voice," added Griffith's friend, Courtney Vrij, also of Dallas. Aguilera...

For American Idol (TV) fans, nothing beats a concert packed with live music, psychedelic lights, and their very own Top Ten belting out the season's most popular Idol performances. This time, however, there's no judges, no tireless, never-ending commercials (except for the occasional, strategically placed plugs for Idol sponsored products), and no abbreviated songs. This year's Top Ten made Chicago their second stop in the 2012 American Idols Live! tour following an opening night in Detroit, Mi. Fresh out of rehearsals in Los Angeles, the tour is young, and the fatigue of a rigorous travel schedule and an inevitable bout or two of homesickness has not set in with it's cast. Full of excitement and anticipation, they are steadily making their way across America to meet their fans and spread some Idol love. The winner of this year's Voice UK contest is Leanne Mitchell, the big-voiced crooner who was one of her team mentor Sir Tom Jones' favourites from the start.
This was a surprise to everyone, not least the singer herself, after the joint favourites going into the weekend's show had been Bo Bruce and Tyler James.
But Leanne did her coach proud with It's A Man's World and then matched him octave for octave on their duet Mama Told Me Not To Come.

The three who remain standing after tonight's American Idol will receive a hero's welcome in their hometowns. The eliminated contestant will just be going home. Bummer.
But hey, there's still the tour, right? And all the guests in theater tonight got a ticket to one of the live shows so we know at least a few people will be there.
David Cook and La Diva Latina herself will perform tonight, and we'll get the only honest criticism we're hearing all season from Jimmy.
Phillip Phillips, who went first in both rounds last night, is going first tonight, too. Jimmy liked that Phillip lost the guitar and added a saxophone on "Have You Ever Seen The Rain." He thought it added to Phillip's repertoire as an artist. For "Volcano," Jimmy said "it all came together" and vowed that had he seen that performance in a different venue, he would've signed Phillip on the spot.

With just two weeks to go, Phillip, Hollie, Joshua and Jessica are pulling out all the stops as they gun for the American Idol crown. And they didn't disappoint on Wednesday night as the final four continued to bring some of their best performances, tackling California-themed songs and personal faves they wished they'd written. Those two themes worked wonders for Jessica Sanchez. After a rocky few weeks and earning the final judges' save, the California-native rebounded Wednesday with dynamite performances of Jennifer Holliday's "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" and Etta James's "Steal Away," during which she...

Is Glee immoral? So immoral that progressives should stop watching it?
That's the contention of Alyssa Rosenberg at ThinkProgress.org, whose manifesto about the show's immorality has been flying around the Internet for the last two days, aided in part by 5,468 of my closest friends who emailed, Facebooked, and Tweeted me the link, asking what I thought.
Rosenberg is not a conservative outraged at Glee's celebration of cultural diversity; she's a progressive who thinks Glee is mangling its handling of serious cultural and social issues, such as the Coach Bieste domestic violence storyline in the most recent episode, "Choke."
"(O)ver the past two seasons, it’s become impossible to escape the conclusion that Glee is an immoral show," she writes. "It’s become a show that’s not just sloppy but exploitative and manipulative of serious societal issues and human experiences. And it’s time to walk away,...

Christina Aguilera and her fans in the crowd are becoming more and more difficult to deal with on The Voice, but it's worth suffering through to get to fantastic performances like we saw on this week's Semifinals.
Seriously, I'm not sure which is worse, the fans that repeatedly scream out that they love Christina, or the pop queen responding to them every single time. It was more than that, though, this week. Christina was taking every opportunity to show her pipes, get up on stage to show her booty and make every contestant's performance about her. At first it was a bit entertaining, but now it's just getting annoying.
There were some great performances, too, making it even more of a shame Christina was too busy to notice them. Let's take a look at all that went down on The Voice's Semifinals...

It's a man's world? Not where country music is concerned. The nominations for the 2012 Cmt Music Awards were announced this morning and it's safe to say the ladies are showing those fellas who's boss. Country cutie and perpetual crossover fave Carrie Underwood led the way, scoring a leading five nominations, including Video and Performance of the Year, closely followed by Miranda Lambert, who nabbed four nods for both her solo and group work. Who else made the cut? Not to be outdone by his missus, country bad boy and Voice judge Blake Shelton earned himself three nominations for the music net's awards, joined in his triple-crowning by the genre's usual suspects—this time around,...

There was something for everyone in Glee's spring premiere: A little bit of comedy, a touch of drama, a soupçon of backstory, a PSA, some genuine character development, and a couple of good songs, with a big juicy serving of fan service drizzled over the whole thing.
There was even a great "what happened last week" line about Blaine and Sebastian making up because Sebastian learned, "Life's too short to blind someone with rock salt." So true.
As to this week's episode, I suspect that how much an individual viewer enjoyed it will be directly proportional to how much they like Blaine Anderson, whose brother, Cooper (Matt Bomer), dropped by to create opportunities for Blaine to take off his shirt, emote musically in a steamy shower, sing two duets with his estranged sibling, and once again pound a punching bag while flexing his muscular and yet still school-boyish guns.

Last year, when New York Times writer Gina Bellafante reviewed HBO's "Game of Thrones," there were a few lines that stuck out from the rest, leading to quite a bit of backlash. After describing the show as a "costume-drama sexual hopscotch," she notes that "[t]he true perversion ... is the sense you get that all of this illicitness has been tossed in as a little something for the ladies, out of a justifiable fear, perhaps, that no woman alive would watch otherwise." In other words, the show's ideal audience would be Dungeons & Dragons-loving guys and the show's creators had merely thrown in a few trinkets to try to attract women. As we approach the season-two premiere, let me assure you -- as a female fan of both the TV show and the books -- that this assessment was wrong. "Game of Thrones" is hugely appealing to women, at least those who are into good storytelling,...

Another week, another wholly unnecessary, post-audition audition episode of "American Idol," because the judges are apparently unqualified to accurately measure talent until they've heard a contestant sing at least eight times in four different venues. Everything that was revealed in this episode could've been covered in a five minute montage, but the producers have a two-hour timeslot and they're determined to make you sit through every monotonous minute, gosh darn it!
Since I am not nearly as sadistic as the creators of "American Idol," all you really need to know is included in the handy list of survivors and lucky escapees below. I suggest you save your DVR space and just drop in for the last five minutes of the Feb. 23 episode, when the show will roll out its annual "Ridiculous Dancing Montage" that will remind you of the Top 24 in one manageable, filler-free chunk.

It's a man's world, all right. At least when it comes to who the British Academy of Film and Television Arts think were the breakout stars of the past year, seeing as how not one female performer managed to make the cut. While the accented powers that be are still whittling down their long list of contenders in advance of next week's reveal of the full rundown of the 2012 Orange BAFTA Film Award nominees, the academy this morning gave movie lovers a taste of what may be coming by announcing the contenders for the sole finalized category—that of the hot young things. Or, as they prefer to call it, the BAFTA Rising Star Award. So which possessors of a Y chromosome are up for the honor? Well,...

The last six semifinal acts performed on 'Live to Dance' (Wed., 8Pm Et on CBS) for a spot in the finals. The competitors included the young Kendall Glover, a tap-dancing duo, a theatrical tumbling troupe called Shore Thing and Dance Town Chaos, a group of 12 guys who danced to Seal's 'It's a Man's World.'
Two acts received the highest scores possible, but only one could move forward to the finals. The judges ("experts") chose Dance Town Chaos. One of the dancers said, "We're so thankful to all the experts for everything ... We're extremely pumped, and we're ready to go to the finals!"
