This film, one of 140 made by the Danzigers at the New Elstree Studio, was shown at the BFI Southbank this evening.
James Kenney plays,a son who wants to find his father.
We first meet him in prison. The first of 3 exposition scenes is played out with Victor Madden in a cell. Kenney thinks that his father was a millionaire.
The second exposition is with his girlfriend Ann Stephen after his release. His mother has died without revealing the identity of his father.
Then the first big coincidence. A letter arrives with a white £5 note,a lot of money at the time. It has the postmark Travisco,so he abandons Ann and goes tramping off to.the town.
At one point he breaks into an old lady's mansion and ends up killing her.
He eventually gets to the town. He asks a local publican who directs him to the local doctor,Basil Dignam. Here comes the third and final exposition. Guess what? Turns out he is the father. However when his son admits to the murder Dignam loads a shotgun. It looks like he is going to kill his son but instead turns the gun on himself.
A thoroughly intriguing drama.
