Chuck resorts to the old banana skin gag.
BA_Harrison27 May 2017
I love Tom and Jerry and I love Chuck Jones, so one would imagine that Jones directing the cat and mouse would see me grinning from ear to ear in delight. Sadly, this is not so, Chuck's version of T&J never quite looking as they should, and the episodes (thus far) lacking in ingenuity and decent gags. The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse does nothing to change this, being mediocre in most departments.

The unremarkable story sees Tom miffed at the arrival of a kitten, the jealous cat doing his best to be rid of the cute newcomer. Jerry mouse decides to help the kitten and keep Tom out of the house. This leads to lots of predictable slapstick including Tom slipping on a banana skin (it really is that uninspired!).

Very disappointing (although still nowhere near as bad as most of Gene Deitch's efforts).

The Warner campaign to expose Tom & Jerry . . .
pixrox11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . for the humorless pair of sad sack losers they were from the beginning continues with the underrated UNDRINKABLE JERRY MOUSE episode. Tom the Cat is shown here with some weird drinking apparatus requiring Jerry the mini rodent to wait upon him in a condition of menial servitude. The Lady of the Mouse finally wises up, and decides to replace Tom with a cuter kitten. The rebellious Tom decides he'd be better off living in a lawn burrow, as did Bugs Bunny in many of his Warner episodes. However, Tom proves hopeless at burrowing, being short of tooth compared to Bugs and the other bunnies. This story ends with a ribald scene of corporal punishment, as the Warner replacement crew makes explicit all the subliminal subversive cues embedded throughout the original T & J series.

One of the weaker Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry cartoons
TheLittleSongbird16 February 2013
And bias has nothing to do with it. I love Chuck Jones and Tom and Jerry. But generally I find his Tom and Jerry output hit and miss in quality, the best are not on par with the classics of the 40s-mid 50s but the worst are at least far better than the abominations that are the Gene Deitch cartoons. The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse is not terrible as such, Tom and Jerry do have likability,- in fact there's nobody here that makes you hate them- the little kitten is extremely cute and the animation apart from a somewhat scratchy-looking Tom has some colour and fluidity. But The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse I still found one of the weakest of his output. I really didn't care for the music, the orchestration is rather ugly-sounding and generally there just isn't anything interesting or memorable about it. The cartoon isn't all that funny either, the gags suffer from bad timing, unoriginality and that they seemed to go through the motions. The sound effects while not bizarre just don't add any life and do nothing to enhance the humour. If you want a cartoon where you're laughing at least once a minute, you won't find that in The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse, you'd be lucky to find one in triple that amount of time. And the story has languid pacing, is very thin and does nothing to surprise or excite. All in all, a lacklustre entry from an animation classic, but again a long way from the nadir of the series. 4/10 Bethany Cox

Cute Kitten Threat to Tom, Loving Jerry However
ShelbyTMItchell10 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Jerry is treated like a slave as he massages "master" Tom and gets him milk and Tom flings him back to his mouse hold with a rope around him. All is well for Tom until he calls Jerry again for his "services". But when a cute kitten is a threat to Tom. Jerry sees the kitten as a new friend but Tom does not what a threat to come to him like the new kitten. Tom does everyting to kick the kitty out of the house. Jerry wants Tom out of the house and keeping the kitty. Finally Jerry has had enough and protect himself and the kitty by winning and after spanking Tom and Tom giving up. Now the roles are reversed as Tom is massaging Jerry and the kitty is licking from Tom's pacifier over milk he had before while Jerry was massaging him. It is funny and cute. Never can go wrong without T&J!

One I remember from childhood
bobby11234217 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those cartoons that I remembered fondly from when I was a kid. I had no idea what it was called or who made it. All I could remember from back then was the last minute or so. When Tom was trying to use the board to fly into the house. And then he got stuck and jerry tied his tail up and gave him a spanking. That was the only memory I had of this particular cartoon. All the other Tom and Jerry cartoons kind of blended all together in my memory. Through the magic of DVR and having left it on the cartoon network, I seen the end of this and was able to rewind it and see the title and watch it all. Watching it as an adult I noticed the plot was kind of slow compared to the others, and the colors were very bright and clear. All in all it could have moved a little faster but it is still one of my favorites. The spinning plate gag and the picture math always made me chuckle.
